It hasnt changed katet, all still here waiting for you. I havent been to big banana area at end of bus route so that developement has completely passed me by. I never even got to mandraki this time which is a first. Im gambling doing this on wifi at my digs and it always seems to lose connection without warning. Skipped breakfast and got the bus up to stop 17 then did a walking loop into the hills, turning back toward coast at the bend just below the red and white radio mast. Worked my way back down and eventually hit the concrete road that comes out at bs16 nect to iguana pool bar. Went in there for a beer and sandwich and persuaded them to let me use pool (supposed to be guests only apparently but i pointed out that a total of 4 people were using it at that time). Nice swim but got a bit hot so bus back to digs by 4pm to start initial packing. Last meal tonight booked at Ricchi&Poveri so hopefully a quality sendoff. Might loiter a bit at tennis club tomorrow so could squeeze in a quick report as they have decent wifi.
Up into the hills from bus stop 17
Looking out toward Kolios
Even on a small island there are some bits that remain almost untouched
Dropped into Iguana pool bar after a hot walk - had warmer welcomes but the Mythos was cold

Great venue for your final night meal, I think by your reports you have not for a single minute regretted surprising your mum. You appear to have crammed a great deal into your visit, have a safe journey home

I dont think i could get her to write anything im afraid dennis. Suffice to say she loves the place and wouldnt hesitate coming back on her own. She also got me to take her to look at the location of a small town house thats for sale on geoff baldry's skiathos property guide! Cousin Helen really enjoyed it too and she also said she would feel safe if she came again solo. My last day was pretty uneventful spent mostly at the tennis club after turning down the accommodation airport transfer (it would have been four wheels this time!) shared a taxi with a couple i got matey with at tennis club that were on same flight as me. They had spent their whole holiday on Alonissos. I think id find that just a bit too quiet. Checked in then the slog round in the heat to desiresby new route. Therestonnes of gravel and building material on that plot in front of the taverna now, somethings definitely going up. One first for the return flight - an aborted landing at Kavala of all things. Pilot blamed it on air traffic control at Kavala changing their minds on something at last minute but maybe he just screwed up approach. OK second attempt though. Im just waiting for my bus to arrive to take me home from EMA. So there you have it another visit all done. If I can sort it out I really should try for a two weeker next time and maybe have a night or two on each of the other 2 islands.

Hi Kev, I agree, one week is never enough in skiathos, even if it is your second visit in the year! I may be a little greedy but I find two weeks are not enough either! 🤣 My ideal holiday would be to spend time on all four of the sporades islands but Skyros is not accessible from skiathos, you either have to fly from Athens or a ferry from skopelos or alonissos. From my research in the last couple of years, the ferry only runs for 3 months of the year - mid-June to mid-September and I think that it is via Volos. Still, one can dream ......🤣

Yes ive looked at Skyros too but considering it has its own airport it seems quite inaccessible. Think you can go direct from italy as well as greece. I guess that would be an adventure - UK to Athens then fly to Skyros and spend a week split between skyros alonissos and skopelos via the ferries and just picking up cheap rooms on the fly then have a prebooked number of nights on skiathos and one way flight back to uk. Something to ponder if you travel light.

How great for you if your mum bought a house in Skiathos town!! We thought about it, but decided it wasn't worth the worry of maintenance etc when not there. It would be different if we wanted to live there all year round, but we've still got parental commitments here (and Paul would miss football too much!) Your week seems to have sped by in about 3 days, Kev!!! You have fit a lot in, though. We're going to try to stretch ours out by being extremely lazy

I'm rather later than Tre; I think I'm now caught up although I've been a bit behind all year. Fantastic images Kev, they're bringing back good memories. Thanks for posting.
