Thank you, Tre - will do my very best 😁 I hope your journey home was smooth and easy & that all is well now.
Yesterday was a strange one, weather-wise, very cloudy early on so we caught the bus down to Koukounaries and called in to see Dino and his team in the Agustera. Efi is still in Volos, with her hands full with the newest members of the family, two beautiful little boys 💙💙 The proud dad showed us some photos - we’re so happy for them. By the time we got back to town the sun had reappeared and it was scorchio again. We had a couple of cold beers sitting in the sun before siesta time, perfect!
We decided to go to the Rock & Roll for a cocktail before dinner - there was a proper hullabaloo in the Church square, some sort of pre-election address, and the whole area was packed with cheering locals - some with air horns. They were all very enthusiastic- something we don’t see at home! Apparently, voting day is tomorrow (Sunday). Hope the man who has promised the new webcam gets in, Dennis!
We ate at O Batis - lovely, as usual, and in such a good spot. We shared a starter (baked feta with tomatoes and peppers), then I had red snapper with oven potatoes and Paul chose a pork fillet in a rich sauce which he said was really tasty. No pud - much too full. The bill came to €42, including a glass of wine each, so good value. Made a mistake next and called in at Totem for a ‘quick one’ ..... oops, staggered home at midnight, such a good job the hotel was close by! Paul’s still recovering in bed - says he’s not drinking brandy again!!! I’m sitting on our balcony, enjoying the sunshine and deliberating on where to eat tonight. So much choice - I know what you mean about tried & tested, Dennis, but we love discovering new places. I’ve packed some baggy clothes in anticipation of the weight I’ll gain by the end of the holiday 😂

Election address was Thodoris Tzoumas ...
I think there are four candidates for mayor, but I only know two,
Theo Tzoumas - has promised to fix the water, the drains, the roads, the floods, the environment, recycling, waste disposal, underground cables in town, the marina, beaches (maybe he will make the sea warmer when I am there, but not this year), fire alarms in the forest, fishing boat shelters, the dog centre, the cat shelter, the donkey shelter, an oil press, medical insurance, ambulance speed boat, public library, schools, historic monuments, Bourtzi, monasteries, ferries, taxes. That might not be everything.
Panagiotis Diolettas - has told me there will be a new camera and he has told Skiathian it has already been bought and is on the island and will be put on the clock tower next week.

I’d vote for Panagiotis Diolettas then!!! Not likely. The camera is already there. I’d go for the bloke who’s warming the sea and saving the donkeys.

Yesterday (which must have been Saturday) was a quiet one. After a large breakfast at Foodie Cafe (I had a lovely omelette & they did bacon and fried eggs on toast for Paul - a special, as it’s not on the menu!), we wandered about town and decided to skip lunch as still too full.
We we ate early, 6.30pm, at Avlios just off Papadiamanti Street. It was a good job we went at that time as it was full by seven pm! I’d give it top marks - a beautiful setting, tasty food and very reasonable prices. We’ll definitely go back (probably a few times). As others have reported on Facebook, the table settings are remarkable - delicate tablecloths & napkins, cut glassware, heavy cutlery and lovely patterned plates bought especially from Churchill China..... which is in the Potteries, about five miles from us!
We we’re brought an appetiser of chicken soup in a tiny bowl - wow, so tasty - just like my grandma used to make. I chose the Avlios chicken special, which arrived looking like a Chinese chicken curry - though it tasted amazing. It was served in a potato basket with a salad on the side, and I managed to finish it all! Paul went for lamb chops - five perfectly cooked cutlets, fries and salad, delicious. We had two glasses of wine, a bottle of water and the bill was €35.60 - I was anticipating about €50 as it was so special.
After a walk to aid our digestive systems we turned in early - just before 10pm .... planning a beach day tomorrow 😎

Not yet 9.00 am and I am salivating Kate! Just tried looking the restaurant up on TA but couldn't find it!
Enjoy your beach day. We have wet weather here!

It’s only been open a week, Amy, but is very popular so should be on there soon.

Kate, I had that chicken too. Looked rather radioactive! But yes, delicious. Couldn’t decide on flavour though 🤔 Amy, not yet on TA I’m going to have a go at getting it on as a new listing, failing that I’ll message Despina

Good work, Tre! We’re just deliberating on where to eat tonight.... possibly the Secret Garden. Championship play-offs final is tonight, but I think Paul’s forgotten about the football now - it’s possibly cruel to remind him that Leeds missed out good n’proper!
Yesterday (Sunday), the sun was shining so I gently persuaded Paul that a water taxi to a beach would be nice - he’s a bit allergic to boats 😏. Anyway, he liked it at first, then got big girls-blousy out at sea so sat with a towel round his shoulders, looking fed up! We caught the one to Nostos beach, a first for us. We’ve been to Kanapitsa before, so thought we would try a different one.
Nostos was lovely - very comfy sun beds at €10 for two and very attentive, pleasant service. We ate in the beach bar (Avaton). and were impressed with the setting and the food. We shared feta pies and calamari, stuck with water - tasty food. Last year there were some poor reports about the attitude of the staff and the boom boom music, but all was good yesterday. The beach bar is set in a tranquil, shady garden and is a short walk back to the road and bus stop #12. We left late afternoon and, with hindsight, should have waited for the water taxi as the bus was about the most packed I’ve ever seen. We thankfully squeezed off at bus stop 4 and had to have a cold beer at Little Balcony while we cooled down.
After a snooze in the room, we headed out quite late and had a couple of drinks and meal at Syrainos in the old port. We spent a very pleasant hour or so & Paul got to talk football with Dimitri, so he was happy! An early-ish night, but we both didn’t sleep too well as it was so hot. It was the first time we have had to use the air-con this trip. No Dave-sightings yet, 👀

KateI think I may have spied you heading into portobello this afternoon, but may have been mistaken.. more friends arrived this afternoon , hence a couple of drinks escalated, power nap on the cards, think a nice meal, night cap and early night on cards, may be wishful thinking. Off to Kanapitsa tomorrow to sort out for birthday meal on Thursday, weather today overcast, which has actually suited a few of our party visiting for first time who wanted to explore, forecast better for tomorrow

Kate, I imagine that you will hear Dave before you see him as he steps out in front of his entourage, holding his umbrella aloft, like any self-respecting guide! Bob
