For goodness sake, will you all be patient! Yes, I know I’m just as bad when I’m waiting for feedback from other people, but this is different!
So Thursday ..
We got up nice and early to catch the 8:30 bus. This is the second of the morning leaving Koukounaries and I suddenly thought it might be full of smelly tourists going into town to catch boat trips. It WAS! We were 3rd and 4th in the queue at bus stop 18 and by the time the bus arrived, there were more than a dozen of us. The bus was full, of course, so we were 5th and 6th in the back door, which closed on me and pressed me up against a tourist. After two more stops and pickups, the conductor got off at the front and came round to the back, told me and three others to get off to let somebody get off. Then, there were five waiting. He stood and specified the sequence of boarding, taking several thin ones to fit in the cracks before letting me back on. I now stood on half a step with the conductor propping me up. At the next stop he admitted the last two at the back, shoving a comely lady up between me and the handrail. When we set off, I told her not to move or she would embarrass me! ”Number 4, Acropolis” thankfully came up next and we squeezed off.
The boat trip sign now says “including wine, food, ouzo” and I was a little worried it might be turning into a booze cruise, but as we boarded, the ticket collector said if you want wine food ouzo, take your ticket to the bar, so it was not to be a grab fest. As we set off, I got my usual beer and Vera’s ice tea. A bit later, I got my “included” - ham and tomato sandwich, nectarine and choice of white, red, or ouzo. Vera doesn’t drink, so I got red and ouzo and a lecture on asking for alternatives for people who don’t drink alcohol.
From earlier posts caused by impatient people, you can see we went the wrong way round, Alonissos first, then Skopelos. We ate tsatsiki and Greek salad in Alonissos and ice cream in Skopelos, where we also paraded for the webcam enthusiasts. We even paraded for Bob, who chose to ignore us in favour of getting his MOT. Bob has now ignored us on probably every trip since 2014 and should be referred to The Committee!
Back in Skiathos, we ate at Nikos taverna. I was still fairly full from all we had eaten, so I opted for a small gyros platter and a glass of rose instead of beer. Vera had kalamari and said it was really excellent. 25 Euros including tip. Nikos advertises as a fast food joint, which it certainly is, but in my opinion, still good quality. Nikos is a “character”, but Mrs Nikos last night was smart and very good with customers.
