As I'm going to be busy over next few days I thought I'd better set up a thread in advance even though I don't travel until Friday 23rd. In terms of 'tech' I'm only taking my phone and I will probably have to rely on wifi to keep the bills down so I don't know how often I will be reporting in but I'll see what I can do. For anyone with access to the fb group 'Skiathos Single Boomers' I shall hopefully posting a few photos in there. The first challenge will be waking up at 3:30am to get the coach down to Heathrow. I've found out that it goes from Nottingham to East Mids Airport which is more convenient for me to get to so I will actually be starting and finishing at EMA, just not flying from it outbound.

What do you mean "I don't travel until Friday 23rd"?? That's pretty much tomorrow for goodness sake!! I'm desperately holding off starting mine and I don't go for over a fortnight (6 Sept).

I'm taking Thursday off work so I have all day to pick up any essentials and pack. I did get the suitcase out the other day and iron a few clothes. I used to pack days in advance and then end up doing it 3 times changing my mind about stuff. Now I just formulate a plan, pick a selection of possible stuff to take and when I get to a luggage weight I'm comfortable carrying around I stop. I might take a few more than usual this time as I'm away twice as long but I still find I end up wearing some things only once in a week so now they will get 2 outings instead!

We also fly on Friday, unfortunately to Cuba not Skiathos, thunderstorm forecast 8 days out of 14, however we had similar forecasts 2 years ago and had 2 major downpours. To all those going to Skiathos this next week or so ,enjoy, looking to your reports/updates

According to accuweather the forecast looks good not only for the 2 weeks I'm around the area but also for the following 2 weeks for D&V's trip when I hand over the baton. The usual Sept thunderstorms are (at the moment) not due until Sep 21st. Fingers crossed you won't need that pacamac Dennis!

I'm not really caring, Kev - when I'm out there, I use the local weather service of simply looking out from the balcony each morning at beach time. An alternative is if I hear thunder in the night (not reliable - I'm a bit loggy in bed).
Whatever, I'm sure we shall enjoy ourselves and smile and a lot as usual.
So your holiday starts now (today is near enough over to count as starting already). Have a great time, we shall all be watching out to see how well you get on with the phone reports. I couldn't manage with just that - I took iPhone, iPad and MacBook in July. In my hand baggage and didn't weigh it until we were coming home when I discovered it weighed 15 Kilos!!! Thank goodness they didn't weigh it at checkin. I think this time I shall have to consider putting the iPad into my back pocket.

I’m with you, Dennis.
I want my kindle, my portable DAP, Mythos, oregano crisps, a good view, a lack of the cold, a nice Greek meal at night with a glass or three of wine, and I’m happy.
Now I know Skiathos gets thunderstorms. But does it ever drizzle all day?

Well, I couldn't do that - I expect the portable DAP, Mythos, oregano crisps would take me over the 20 kilo mark. That sounds really excessive.
No, it never drizzles all day on Skiathos (well, not on MY parade anyway), just either gets on with it or stays away. Remind me again in 14 days and I'll check again.

It's what we call a Walkperson now we don't have to put a cassette in it.
I must have me music!

From which information I shall draw the crumbs of comfort that we are going at different times, so I won't have to suffer bangy thumpy.

is a dap like an i pod ? i always take mine with a tiny speaker, we play it in the room so only we can hear it on the balcony when we are having our pre dinner drinkies. No bangy thumpy music anyway! I love an ouzo to start and finish the evening, i'd never think of drinking it at home, it only tastes right in the sun, preferably with some greek music in the background.
