Tbh I don't think Xmas is that big a deal for the Greeks, Easter is their big celebration Yes, Greek Easter celebrations are big. I’d just like to be in Skiathos for Christmas, big or small - and enough open to have a nice time.

I keep my eye on the weather.
This coming Sunday, which is 1st December, is the first day of the winter where the forecast has been below 17 degrees - it’s due to be 15.

I'm just having a trawl of some old threads, and spotted this.
I think there's been some talk of extending the season this year to try and make up for the loss in revenue.
I'd certainly be up for a cheeky week at October half term.

......but when push comes to shove and flights start up again, I wonder how many people will be comfortable negotiating packed airports and being enclosed in a plane with however many other people, breathing recirculated air for nearly four hours in both directions. Bob

What bothers me (VERY slightly) is not having six Baileys on the flight home - driving after we land. 🤡

Bob The filters will deal with recirculated air: “Ventilation rates provide a total change of air 20 to 30 times per hour. Most modern aircraft have recirculation systems, which recycle up to 50% of cabin air. The recirculated air is usually passed through HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters, of the type used in hospital operating theatres and intensive care units, which trap dust particles, bacteria, fungi and viruses.” www.marketwatch.com/story/should-i-cancel-my-flight-will-recirculated-air-on-a-plane-spread-coronavirus-heres-what-you-need-to-know-before-traveling-2020-03-06The person sat next to you coughing is more of an issue, but no more so than on a bus or train.

As a general point, I’m presuming everything has settled down, and is safe - it as safe as it’s going to get anywhere.
I’m a big believer in balancing facts. If restrictions are lifted equally in the U.K., Germany and a Greece, and you’re happy to go to a bar or restaurant here, I see no reason not to go to Skiathos.
If you’re not happy going to a bar here, then you maybe won’t be in Greece either.
I keep reminding myself that few of us Boomerangers are in our 20s. Risks are greater the older one gets, certainly past the age of 40. When things change, I’ll weigh up the evidence based on what we know.
However, let’s leave that aside for a moment.
Let’s just presume for a second that we’re happy it’s safe, and Skiathos opens later in an attempt to recoup lost revenue. In that instance, I’d be happy to go, as long as it looked like most tavernas (etc.) were staying open, and prices reflected the chance of cooler weather.

Are those ventilation rates before or after smoking ban? It was said that after the ban, airlines were greatly pleased to be able to reduce them and that cross infgections of things like colds had noticeably increased. I could be wrong (I was wrong in 1983 - or it may have been 1982).

I could be wrong (I was wrong in 1983 - or it may have been 1982). It’s not rates as such. They used to replenish air with that from outside, now they filter it instead. They would have before, but the filters would have had to be replaced too often after getting clogged with smoke.
