having a look at east mids flights for either last friday in august or first friday in sept says no flights available all sold, but if you go into holidays you can book that flight. It appears that they are trying to force you to take a package. I suppose we could book package and not use accomodation we want to go to Angeliki, or might hold on and see if can get flight only later, as we already have fortnight booked in june for leros I could get jet 2 from Birm but hate drive there when east mids on doorstep

Well, good luck Cariad. I first thought you were talking about 2021, but as I can’t find our preference for then I guess you’re meaning this year.

I had already made up my mind to have a gap year for Skiathos but I also looked at this and concluded TUI's priority was packages, which didnt seem particularly good value. I can only assume if they don't manage to flog off some higher end packages they might free up some seats as flight only later in the season. I expect they will be considerably higher price than the old TC flights used to be though.

I have a sneaking suspicion that TUI (and other tour operators) are not in business to serve us holidaymakers. I’m guessing they’re in it for profit, so our interests come a long way behind in their judgement on what, when and for what price to sell. Sad, innit?

none of the Tui accommodation appeals to me, i did think of booking the cheapest and just using the flight, but that would make it too expensive. If i leave it last minute Angeliki will be booked up. I think we will have to forget skiathos this year until the craziness dies down. Looking at TA the way tui has been changing flights you have no guarantee you will get your chosen airport Next year I'll have a look at Agean from Birmingham, and have a couple of days in Athens as ive always to go there. But as i hope to give up work in the summer we might have to downgrade our plans.

I'm taking mum to Parga this year (including a one night stay at Meteora half way through the holiday)and she's really looking forward to it. There are a few from the Skiathos facebook group giving Skiathos a miss this year but will definitely be there in 2021 so I expect I will be drawn back next year for another visit. If I can manage 10 or 14 nights next year I would also consider Agean and an overnight in Athens or fly to Volos and then bus or taxi to volos ferry port and ferry to Skiathos, though I'd probably only do that as a solo traveller, it would be a bit tiring for mum I think. Just had a flip through the packages available from TUI, searching as a solo traveller there's nothing in my budget and even if it was a 2 person shared job there's probably only two I would be interested in (1 in Meg Ammos, though I know nothing about the apts) and the Oasis in town.

Yes I think it's going to be a bit of a challenge as we will be there from mid August which will probably be about as busy as it gets all year. I've opted to pick up a car at the airport and have it for the whole holiday so if we start to feel too claustrophobic we will head off somewhere a bit quieter, even if it means going inland and forgetting the beach for a bit.

After discussions on FB about alternatives I tried doing a theoretical alternative route via Athens (having to fly from Manchester) by either Aegean or combination of Aegean and Sky Express. They may be cheap options out of peak periods but at the sort of time I like to go (late Aug into early Sep) the combination of flights to and from Athens from Manchester and then the added flights to and from Athens to Skiathos there really wasn't much in it at all and the added issue is that it ends up being a really long day if you want to avoid an overnight in Athens.
