Just stumbled across this site by chance while googling any covid restrictions in Skiathos. You guys are well hidden it seems. Anyway. I (family Inc) have been visiting the lovely island for 25 years. Have made many friends there over that time and yes I have a favourite resort, Aghia Paraskevi. We have over the years tried different islands because you can't keep going back to the same place... Well when nothing else comes close to skiathos, then yes you bloomin well can keep going back. I don't know what it is about the island, but it gets under your skin and keeps drawing you back. Just waiting on a lotto win and I'll be living there. We are booked to go back in August, and our flight is still on, or so tui says. Does anyone have info on what quaranteen or checks are being done at jsi side?
Steph

Hi Steph, welcome to the Skiathos Boomerang Forum. Hidden indeed! :-) I set this forum up in 2013 after the failure of the previous Skiathos forum. We are not a big community on here, but most prefer the forum type environment to the other social media groups, as information quickly gets lost on those platforms. I did also have a Skiathos Boomerang website, but unfortunately that has gone by the wayside in recent years. Please keep frequenting this forum now you have joined and give everyone your obviously in depth knowledge of the island. Woody

Welcome Steph. For JSI arrivals checks I have no actual information, just assume checks are being carried out, because supposedly a Serbian woman tested positive when she got off the first tourist flight of the season.
Skiathian (https://skiathian.blogspot.com/) posts a lot of useful information and just now on looking for the link to post for you, I see he has written quite a bit since I last was able to look at his blog.

I forgot to add :- Please note the Holiday Feedback board and do try to fill it in generously (i.e. lotsa waffle and comments and info and diary stuff). No matter your literary ability, just so long as you can read and write we will welcome everything you can write about your holiday with open arms. We are starved of feedback so far this year and even just a couple of lines will be well received.

A quick update - the 'Serbian woman' has been discounted as untrue by the mayor.
Steph, as well as keeping us up to date, I've found this forum as an excellent source of knowledge and information.
Please ask if there's anything you want to know.

Not sure abt being that much of an expert đ we kinda like our own thing. Avoid all the busy touristy bits and prefer the quieter areas. After all these years we tend to stick to our faves. Although if you get chance to go out sailing on evdora katamaran I can definitely recommend that one. Things have changed a bit over the years, some places going too modern for my liking, I prefer the traditional Greek. I am glad that the Mc donnalds that appeared down the bottom of papadiamanti didn't last long. Shudders at the thought. Been to most beaches and the only 1 I don't like is koukounaries. Loud music and way too crowded for me. Drive up to platanos if you hire a car, the food and the view is definitely worth it. The monastery has changed the most, it was a wreck when we first went and it's lovely to see how much they have done to it. We've been in June, July, Aug and Sept. June and Sept are quieter but June the sea is freezing and Sept the nights are getting cooler. Not much difference between July and Aug really but there were more storms in July. Because of kids school and college hols we are restricted with our dates. Cheep flights to skiathos are like hens teeth.

Oh Steph I think I shall enjoy feedback from you. You seem to have much in common with us, Koukounaries beach (ugh) and Platanos (wow) to name but a few. The only thing we like about the former is that exciting fast boat ride to town and the only sad thing about Platanos is theyâve stopped doing Russian Salad.

Thatâs Steph, Dennis and me, then.
When in Koukounaries, go to Maratha!
Im currently instructing âthe girlsâ as to what weâre doing in August. As they want to hire a car for a day or two, Platanos is a must.
Iâve also told them weâre going to Olive Thea, and to check out the toilets, but I havenât said why.

In Koukounaries we only go to three places - the supermarket for funny breadstick things with seeds on (I donât eat funny breadstick things with seeds on), to the fast boat to town and to the âroadâ north for Aselinos and points north (Ligaries).
Explain to the girls that toilets are things you use when you canât find any dock leaves.

We always used to get a jeep, can go anywhere in those. But last year due to cost and availability we got a yaris instead... You can not go everywhere in those. Some of the roads round the peninsula where vromolinos and kanapitsa are had huge storm damaged craters in. Plus we attempted to access the road that comes down from the hills into the end of the runway and had to grind to a halt and reverse due to road craters. I miss the old style jiminys, those bone shakers would scale a mountain. My parents have just informed me we are having a yaris again for the entire week because we don't know what the bus acessability will be like. Often at night truing to get on at stop 16 after 7pm to go to town is a no go. There are so many nice places to squeeze into 1 week, so I doubt koukunaries will even make the reserve list. What is this live webcam business I've seen on another thread... And why did I not know about it. Clearly I'm not rubbing shoulder with the right Greeks! Also.. Anyone know what beaches are pebble and accessible from the road? I bought a new snorkel last year and a gopro to take some underwater vid, but sandy beaches churn up the water too much. I will make a note to take notes down daily and snap some pics for all you who are doing without skiathos this year. (still crossing everything that we get there)

Webcam - itâs on the clock tower up above town. Iâve just today noticed that we have a link at the top of the page. I hope Woody (site Admin) only just put it there or Iâll look a proper wally for not noticing before! It has a checkered history - it used to be accessed from the Skiathos Dimos website and a few years ago it was destroyed by a lightning strike, thereby robbing those of us who knew about it of a wonderful source of pleasure during the many weeks when we are not physically on the island. It was at long last replaced last year, a live webcam which changed views frequently, lovely. However, sadly (in my opinion) its existence was promulgated on Facebook, so these days when you try to log on for a visual fix, more often than not you get a failure to connect âtoo many viewersâ. Give the link at top of page a try at 7am and youâll probably get connected, but live feed will probably be hit and miss with bandwidth filling rapidly by all the people on Facebook who have nothing better to do than log onto the camera and leave it connected all day long! It has half a dozen or so views, switched at random.
How come with 25 years history on Skiathos you are not yet old enough to be in charge of your geriatric parents? Youâve experienced their carâs rubbish limitations, so go twist your parentsâ arms and dump the Yaris and get a Jimny.
Be aware that posting photos on here is not a simple click of the button. Instructions are written on the âPhotosâ forum. Go read. You need a hosting site.
