Day 11
The grey heavy skies greeted us this morning on the balcony and the wind on the hill was something else. We packed up and deposited bags at reception and headed into town - with each step down the hill the wind seemed less so perhaps we got the brunt of it the higher up we were. We had breakfast in Seagull and watched the world go by, a lot of Greek families out for brunch and the cafe bars along the old port were relatively busy. We noticed the bar (Jaguar) at the bottom of the steps have called it a day and cleared away their furniture, half mini and cushions leaving behind a bare area as if something is missing. A few of the boats along the old port have returned to their winter moorings too, leaving more room for the few left. I got more of my book read and 3 cups of tea later for the OH, we decided to move. The sea looked grey and uninviting but in the distance the sky was clearing, even blinks of sun. We stopped of at a supermarket so I could get biscuits for work colleagues and by the time we reached the apartments, the sun was out, sky almost blue again but a little chillier than previous days but it’s nice to see normal service again. We sat around the foyer and had a drink by the pool before our 5.30pm pick up, another Skiathos holiday drawing to a close. We’ve enjoyed the proximity to town and it was definitely the right decision with other resorts so quiet this year, perhaps next year we’ll do a week in town and a week further west, as we know we’ll be back 😄. Wishing all the businesses on the island good luck and here’s to a better next season! And hopefully everyone on here can make it next year.

Only just caught up with these as some dates overlapped with my own holiday elsewhere. Great reports and makes me determined to hire a car next time and get to that northern central bit that I can't really explore just on foot from a bus stop without it turning into a really long day. That was one issue I had with Ortwind's book, quite a few of the circular walks really required transport other than a bus to get to the start points of. Six visits and never seen Kechria, embarassing really. One question since you went in a few times - How were David & Libby coping with socially distancing people in the Old Port House? It's tiny!

Six visits and never seen Kechria, embarassing really. One question since you went in a few times - How were David & Libby coping with socially distancing people in the Old Port House? It's tiny! The area around Kechria is indeed beautiful, more so maybe since we had it to ourselves on the day we went, plus it wasn’t baking hot so the walking was easier, definitely worth going though! The Old Port House, like everywhere, has a maximum number allowed in (I think it was 14) and on occasion it reached that number, so everyone else was outside, politely respectful of everyone’s space. People either sat on the bench outside the front, on 2 little stools set up on the other side of the door to the bench or the bench space which was uncushioned in the bar opposite, beside Meating Place (I think it’s Maria’s bar??, which was closed or never opened this season, not sure which). People dropped in and out of the OPH and I like the atmosphere of this place. Of course the volume of people this year was not the same as normal times also, so they were coping well with it all.
