This has become a bit of a must do for us. The sanctuary is in the hills behind Troulos, we get the bus to stop 18 and then flag a taxi for the long climb (about 8 euro).
Loads of refuged dogs that need a walk and a bit of a fuss. There are usually some heart stealing puppies as well. If you can spend or donate a few euros you are supporting a very worthy cause.
The route you walk is gorgeous (well on the way out when it is mostly downhill) and it certainly didn't harm my waist to be getting a bit of a workout.
You can walk back into Troulos in about 40 minutes feeling that brilliant combination of smug and raging thirst. Beer anyone?

Yes baffled, lots of people walk the dogs. We never have ourselves as we usually help out at the Skiathos Cat Welfare Association.

Hoping to get there in September. They need even more help now that Amazon have stopped doing free delivery.

What we have done in the past is to go up there and ask what they are most in need of that we can buy in the town for them, for instance one year they very grateful for kitchen rolls.
It is a lovely place to visit, the girls up there do a great job, don't worry like some people do that it will be a sad experience, far from it because the dogs are perfectly happy, safe, well cared for and well fed ... dog heaven I should imagine.

Kathos, you beat me to that as was just about to post link! It was our first time to Skiathos last year (going back on Friday hoooorrraaaaayyyyyyyyyy!!!) and I e-mailed the shelter before we went to see if they needed anything specific bringing over. Last year they were short of collars and worming tablets - waiting for a reply to see what they need this year x We stayed at the Victoria Complex studios (bus stop 19) in Troulos. On a Monday night they have a fun quiz there with all proceeds going to the dog shelter. The lady that runs the shelter is usually there so we gave the items directly to her and visited in person on our second week. There are a variety of items to purchase at the shelter including handmade bookmarks and cards and as Kathos has already stated, the dogs are well cared for, content and happy xxxx Hope you have a lovely visit there Patch and make sure you have a HUGE bag or pockets so you can snaffle away any of the pups that they usually have there!!

Hi wirralynne It is good hearted people like yourself who help so much in keeping the shelter going, good for you, they rely heavily on donations of all kinds for which they are very grateful. Several years ago my daughter fell in love with a blind dog called Melissa, she has never forgotten her, once Melissa had her passport she was adopted and went to live with a family in Germany, I think it was. If the girls who work there have the time (it was Helen, Donna and another lady), then have a chat with them because what they do is so interesting.

Thanks Kathos. I have 'liked' the page and will contact them through that source nearer the time. I think that Iguana Bar and Christakis Bar also have quiz nights for the Shelter so I think we will easily be able to 'deliver' some goodies.
