Not the character from Tarantino's heist film, the Sleeper song.
A last minute, 'cheeky week'.

Okay, just a week today and we'll be flying.
I'm a bit...not worried, not anxious, but 'interested' in what Lake Studios will be like.
The most basic we've been in is Sunset Studios, which is Jet2 rated 3-star, TripAdvisor 4.5, whilst Lake is Jet2 rated 2-star, TripAdvisor 3.5. So we're really pushing just how bargain basement we're prepared to go.
Having said that, the negative reviews at TA are (almost) all 5+ years old. The man concern raised which would bother me most is the rooms being unclean, but that was last mentioned by an English language reviewer in 2014. My minimum requirements are somewhere to lay your head where you can sleep and shower between trips to the beach/pool/eateries - if I get a good price and I get that, I'm happy. Everything else is a Brucie Bonus.
Ultimately, it was Lake or nothing, so it's Hobson's choice anyway.
On the upside, there's no pool bar. I say upside - we're on a budget, and most of the extra money we spent, perhaps unnecessarily, in May/June was a few drinks during the day, and lunches when we weren't all that hungry. If we're by the pool and there'd no pool bar, it'll be cans of Mythos from the fridge in our room, and oregano crisps, or a sarnie from the supermarket. Far cheaper. We're on a bit of a budget, so there'll be no Olive Thea, White View, or Marmita, but I think we'll get a bit of BBW, Ottimo, Under the Pine Tree, Mesogia, Gravisi, Asprolithos.
So it's the 4 of us for a week, but also SWMBO's mate and her daughter (who came to the Palace with us in 2020) are joining us for the last 4 days. We thoroughly intend to mix it up a bit; the kids are now old enough, and familiar enough with the island, to let them take off on their own. Freya is 14, almost 15, Theo is 12 almost 13, and the other lass is 16, almost 17 (all their birthdays are coming up in September/October). When we came to Sunset last year we had a couple of nights where the kids didn't eat with us, but took some snacks back to the room. Could be more of that sort of thing this time round. Back then, we stuck to Koukounaries, but I think we're confident enough now to go into town and leave them alone. So it might be the three adults out, or any two of us, or any combination of the kids.
We'll see.

We stayed at The Lakes in 2019. It was definitely clean. They didn't provide a tea towel though so we had to buy 1 & strangely neither did Aggelos where we stayed this year. Thankfully we took last year's just in case. Always before in over 15 years of visiting the island we have been provided with them. Strophilia (pizzas, amazing) & Ilias Orchard are well worth a visit for home cooked food. We preferred them to BBW.

So as to not hijack Dave’s thread…
Forecast now showing 3-6 hours with a 30% chance of light rain around the middle of the day on Wednesday, between noon and 6pm, with bright sunshine after that. We land at 8:10pm, which is almost exactly sunset, so we have the best possible chance of that drying out.
Thursday’s forecast of thunderstorms all day has settled down to light rain on and off for the morning and early afternoon (worst of it at 9am), sunny later. I’ve never know it rain for that long, and I’m guessing it’s probably better to read the forecast as rain sometime during that period, rather than the whole lot.
But great news, wall-to-wall sunshine on Friday, 28 degrees. I’ll take that and party!

By the way, we’ve never eaten at either of those before, despite being at Sunset which is bang next door to IO.

They were always two of our favourite restaurants in Koukounaries, but both Strophilia and Illias Orchard went a bit less good than other places and we stopped visiting them about 7 or 8 years ago. They both seemed to be busy when I was staying in Kouk in May and I'm very pleased they seem to have had a resurgence. The problem with the whole island is that there are so many brilliant places to eat and you really do get spoilt for choice! Not a bad problem to have, I suppose ...

Forecast for Wednesday and Thursday similar, but quietening down a little.
Friday and Saturday both look quite excellent.
Due to the relatively late booking, our planning has been all over the place. Going on Wednesday, at work Monday and Tuesday, so this weekend should be our ‘getting ready’ days. However, we’d already planned to go to and old friend’s yesterday, and the cricket at Headingley later today. Still, I should have enough time.
SWMBO is off to Meadowhell shopping.

You want to get yourself a decent phone! Mine says thunderstorms Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. With close thought, I feel it may ease off a bit on Saturday in preparation for a sunny Sunday. Enjoy.

I have to be honest, I pretty much invented the concept of last minute dot com, way before the internet was born.
It’s SWMBO whose made me the nervous, gibberish wreck that I am today, needing to be packed 8 weeks in advance.
I’m actually going to time myself and see how long it takes. I always find the biggest issue is the things which can only be packed at the last minute, like toiletries that you use every day.

Although we fly tomorrow we have yet to start packing, this is partially down to our 16 year old grandson who stopped over last night, our cases in the spare bedroom and he’s yet to arise, mind you it is only 1pm 😴

I had to curtail my packing to go to the cricket.
Currently at Headingley, see if you can spot me in the crowd.
We need a Boomerangers t-shirt.
