Instead of buying bottled water all the time, just buy a couple of bottles and refill them with lovely spring water them at one of the many taps like the locals do.
Some I can remember are; on Papadiamanti Street, at Acropolis, near to Carrefour and one near the bus station/school. Your rep or hotel should know where your nearest one is.
It saves you money and keeps down the volume of waste plastic.

Good idea this Stephen... we saw locals filling bottles and washing sand off their feet as we walked down and past the kiosk to the car park from bus stop 4 too...

Was there not a post from the municipality or water authority last week asking people not to use these taps for washing? Bob

I've been wracking my memory but can't remember where I saw it. I thought it might have been either the Old Boomerangers or Skiathos Lovers Forums, but when I tried the search box it didn't come up with anything. Bob

Unless somebody has torn it down, there's a prominent enough notice right above the tap at the BS4 one, can't miss it. Presumably the English is not sufficiently direct enough for people to understand when it says drinking only it also means not for washing your (Word Deleted) feet. We take an EMPTY bottle to the beach and fill it with sea water to wash our feet.
GRRRRR!

In Corfu one of our pet hates was the family who went to the beach and came back sand from head to toe and jumped into the pool to wash it off - they had walked past free beach showers to come back!

Just read this thread and I'm sure I've either been told by a local (or read on a forum) that although the spring water is perfectly good for drinking it can upset our delicate 'foreign' tummies as it has a higher mineral content than we're used to. So, that's the reason you could get an upset stomach if you drink it! It's a bit rude to wash your feet at the drinking fountains!!!!!!!
