The webcam overlooking Skiathos town was damaged beyond use by a thunderstorm last November. Those of us who have used it to view the town loved doing so and miss it greatly.
I have been to see the man in charge of it in the Town Hall and he needs a new camera. The present Greek financial situation is not conducive to him getting the required funds. Tentative surfing indicates a new camera would cost in the region of £800 and it crosses my mind that our forum members might be willing to stump up for it - 80 of us at a tenner a head would cover it, but of course, not everybody can spare that much and some others might be willing to chip in a bit more.
So this poll is simply to ask if any of you would be willing to donate and how much. Early days yet and I am in touch with the man in charge, who is hopeful they may get the funds if/when the present financial crisis in Greece is resolved. If we can fund it, perhaps I can give him a new camera when Vera and I return there in September.
The poll will close on 31st July in time to take action before September.

Well done Dennis. I've copied the link to your poll and posted it on the Old Boomerangers Facebook page, so hopefully that might whip up a bit of interest from there. Bob

Thank you Bob, I had intended, but forgot to ask, for somebody to do that.

Ouch! I have just been doing my own surfing and maybe I'm not doing it right because my pricing comes up with more like £1200. I'll look properly when I get home, but I'll still see what people think.

Well, one week to go and still only eight pledges including my own. I'm beginning to think the only answer is to stand in the airport showing a poster to people on their way home, begging for cash and shaking a collecting tin. Has anybody got any more pictures of views from the camera? This one is an English Friday flight arriving, 18th July 2014.

Dennis, I've posted a reminder of your poll on the Old Boomerangers Facebook page and on Trip Advisor, although I'm not sure that TA will allow it as it is not directly travel related. I hope that your efforts are rewarded with a better response. Surely there must be more than just a handful of us who enjoy the webcam and are prepared to put our hands in our pockets. Bob

Thats spooky Dennis I think I was on that flight! Hmm. T. Cook from Stansted or Thomson from Birmingham - Guessing. Would greekgods actually come down in a plane? Bob, I think the webcam IS travel related as much as other stuff on TA - it is a tourist attracting feature, showing not only regulars, but also newly considering travellers what's going on. The camera used to re-align from time to time, offering a different view showing the old harbour.

I only did it to see how your words about the webcam were received by the boomerangers - not very loudly, I fear!

Yes, our recruitment drive doesn't seem to be meeting with much success. Bob

Unfortunately being an Ex-Greek God I've had to join the the plebs! We flew on that day last year from Gatwick with Thomson. Not long ago, I flew out wearing my Superman T-Shirt under a zip top. I went to the toilet and on the way back I was confronted by a very small boy who stood transfixed. His mum and gran joined him to wonder at Superman, his current "top of everything" favourite. Mum gave him his play camera to take my picture, then mum and gran used real cameras to snap us together. I explained to him that I don't usually fly in aeroplanes, but Vera doesn't feel comfortable if I carry her under my arm all the way, so we were flying in a plane today. I did him a twirl and arm out pose. Mum told him to bring his book to show me and he trotted off to get his Superman magazine. So I signed it for him - he wasn't old enough to tell me his name, but mum did, so he got a personalised autograph from Superman in his magazine. I love kids. Have you seen today's picture on the front of the Mirror of two kids in pink waterproofs and wellies, enjoying paddling through (Somerset?) mud eating ice cream cornets? Made my day.

That's priceless denys wish I could be on one of your flights, usually landed with a load of brain dead, right miserable looking people, who keep asking the cabin crew the most stupid questions. you'll have to get a superman cape like my grandsons it attaches to tee shirt with Velcro.
