I thought as we all like a bit of feedback I would post some from my son (exgreekgodsson or EGGS as Dennis has named him)! Eggs arrived on Friday after a bit of a delay. This is his fifth trip, his fiance's third and their friends first. They arrived at their hotel in Koukounaries only to find they only had one family room! Whoops Eggs had messed up on the booking! Luckily the hotel managed to sort them another room but I think it cost him! That's a lesson learned take your time and read everything properly before you push the button! They sorted out two quad bikes for the week (about 150 euros each) and bussed into town for dinner at Scuna , several beers, wines and two courses each about 100 euros between four, not bad. Next day (Saturday) out on the quads across to the other side and lunch at ligharies beach, I went there last year and had the best Seabream I have ever tasted! They then toured down past Mandraki and ended up at Koukounaries beach where surprisingly none of the beach tavernas were open, I don't know if it's anything to do with the beach licences? Saturday night they booked at Salt and pepper, cocktails, beers two bottles of wine starters and lobster for four 140 euros, superb! Today they are going to Kastro I will update if I hear from him. P.S their friends love the island, sounds like two more boomeranged!

He's a good Eggs. Tell him "More, More, Please."
I believe the Koukounaries beach beds/umbrellas and tavernas are doing fiasco - down to some plonker who still hasn't held the annual auctions! Apparently, May has arriverd without warning this year and the auctions may be due this Friday.

Actually Dennis the auctions are on Saturday. I hear it is down to the mayor. I also heard that Skopelos has had their licences since 6 May! I suppose it is a case of watch this space. Still a lot of people upset that still no sunbeds on beaches!

Yes, Amy, I knew it was the Mayor. My information (according to my suspect memory) was only a June date of the 10th. Either way, it sounds like no way to run a tourism service - all he needs to do is invite written bids for each beach and accept the best one. It could be a bit complicated by somebody wanting only one beach but bidding on more than one etc, but it's not too difficult - I used to have a spreadsheet to do it when I had stuff to sell in Local Government (rather more stuff than the beaches on Skiathos). Whatever - I always had to have all my tenders in, registered, accepted and awarded before the start of the financial year, which used to happen on the same day each year - y'know, first of April, just like 1st May happens each year in Skiathos. I suspect there won't be any beds set out by next Monday.

Had a couple more texts and calls from Eggs so a little bit more feedback...Sunday on quad bikes to Kastro and walked up to the top, great views and a lovely breeze. Went down to kechria Beach but the taverna was shut for renovation. Out for dinner in town Marmita, the best meal so far (don't know what they had!) But Eggs has been before and loves it. Monday chilled on Mystique beach just the other side of Koukounaries and then Greek night at the hotel, great night and really good value (we went last year I think it was about 15 euros) although resultant hangovers this morning! Tuesday weather a bit dodgy so went to town and lunched at Ergon ( I have yet to try it but Eggs says it's great) Tonight out in town dined at Alexandros in the back streets, live Greek music and a lovely atmosphere. Sorry the detail is vague but I did say it was third party!!

Egg, please tell Eggs that we really appreciate this. I hate to hear Kechria taverna is still not open, fingers crossed - we only have a couple of weeks now left. Perhaps Eggs could do his Good Samaritan thing and give them a helping hand?

Hmm. Reminds me of the huge efforts I put into my job way back when, just before they decided I was surplus to requirements!
