My favourite restaurant in Troulos was Varellis. Not the most attractive setting but the food and the welcome from Rosemary and George was lovely.

Kev, that place looks lovely AND about 5,000 feet higher than I can possibly cope with for my 77th birthday in September. I prefer places which are on the second floor rather than on the third. LOL.

We have a list of places where we eat and circulate round the list over our holiday. Varelli is very firmly on it. I just wish George had a gentler handshake (or maybe take up high fives instead!). LOL

Plenty of time between now and September to get one of those sprung grip devices to strength your handshake Dennis!

No chance, Bob. But it does remind me that I never commented this year on the fitness geeks.
They were always there at Troulos beach when we went for our early morning swim. Instead of the shifty people coming up walking swiftly from behind to beat us to the best umbrellas and beds, the geeks came pounding - you could hear them coming for ages, thump, thump of the trainers. Funny thing was, I don't recall seeing any of them with those bent bottles of drink. Our favourite was the guy who was at the far end of the beach doing exercises at first - I ask you, star jumps and sprinting on the spot, arm swinging round and poking the sand in front of his toes. Then he'd move - rush 100 yards, jog 100 yards, rush again, jog again. Y'know what? He didn't have a six pack and I told Vera that as soon as he stopped this behaviour, his none pack would swell into a belly just like mine - it was already developing suspiciously outwards.
And the lone girl who sweated past us in both directions every morning, all the rest of the fitness geeks who look so miserable you wonder whether they are running to get over the bereavement of their favourite hedgehog. I always hold my breath until they've gone well past, don't want any of that armpit pong thank you!

Excellent meal at Ratatouille last night as always, I love how they work as a team in there, all doing their job well and professionally... Its so busy though every night there is no time to have a chat with any of them... Been on little vassilas beach for a couple of hours today, now relaxing in the pool area hence this post via wife... Only place it works now, sort it out Dennis! going into town this evening....

Had an odd experience in Vareli last year. My bill came to just under 19 euros, I only had 10 and 20 notes so thinking 20 wouldn't leave enough tip I put 30 on the tray and never got any change back until I enquired about it, did they think I'd really leave 11 euro tip on a 19 euro bill? I'm sure it was just the girl on the till being a bit dozy but it did leave a bit of a poor impression.

If you had just put a 20 down, that would have covered the bill and change. Putting down 30 was your mistake, not theirs. What did you expect? If you didn't say anything when you handed it over, she had to return your 10 Euro note in the change, which sounds just daft.
If we had a similar situation, we'd put down the 30 and say "Please take xx" - up to the amount we wanted to tip. It doesn't usually happen to us though, as we have three sets of funds with us - the joint fund in one purse/wallet for food, then each of us have our own to spend as rashly as we wish, so between the three, there's always enough loose change for tipping appropriately.

Sorry Dennis Im with KevB on this... He wasnt daft putting the 30 down he was being polite... We have had similar things happen to us and 3 times just this holiday we have been taken advantage of... Its not on and I feel exactly how Kev must have felt... Me and Mick work hard all year to pay for our holiday and to have money taken off you is not on...

Anyway had a beautiful meal in Lynhari in town last night, a touch more expensive than in Troulos say but the high standard of food/service/ambience is what you pay for, its up to everyonw to decide if its worth it for them and for us it was. Quiet day round the pool today after a drive around this morning... Trying our best to find an ornament all over the island of the table and two whicker chairs that are traditional for Greece, everyones got one but theyre not selling them anywhere this year? Just eaten in Victoria restaurant for first time, was nice, I had a nice Kleftico and hubby had Pork chop.. Just chilling now with full fat wifi in Bourdourani apts bar just around the corner... Its nice when the barman sees you coming and gets just what he knows you have all ready..

Sorry Dennis Im with KevB on this... He wasnt daft putting the 30 down he was being polite. Di, we too would put the 30 down, BUT would say "Take 25 please" (maybe it helps that I say it in Greek?). We NEVER experienced any occasions of being taken for a ride and always, if we said nothing, they brought back the full change to the last copper. I'm sure that Rosemary and George at Vareli would be mortified to hear that somebody felt taken advantage of.

I've found in the past in this situation that sensible restaurants would split the 10 into sensible coins and bring it all back for you to then leave an appropriate tip. Never happened to me before. Leaving a 20 for a bill of a little over 19 euros just makes me look like a tight fisted Yorkshireman ;-)

Last nights meal was at Panorama Pizza high above town, lovely location and setting and meal was nice.. Though yet again (3rd time now) when we have asked for the same starter we have only received one lol.. Today we visited Kanapitsa beach for the first time, enjoyed being so close to the sea so not too far to burn your feet on the scorching sand which has been the norm everyday so far... It was very busy too so after 3 hours or so back to the pool which also was busy Dennis as Nikos was entertaining a few beautiful girls around and in the pool .. Oh and our car was very dirty due to the drive to Kechria and Mick keot meaning to take some water down to rinse some off... Anyway when we went down this morning bless her Angela was just starting to hose down the wheels of our car so Mick thanked her but took the hose off her and she allowed him to wash the majority of the dust off... What a lovely family they are! Had lovely meal once again in Ratatouille, never disappoints.. Now chilling in the bar at Bourdarania again, contemplating what to do tomorrow..... 🤔😀
