what makes me mad at TA nowdays is the same questions being constantly asked, why arnt they blocked before appearing, for eaxample Where can i watch football on tv, how much for taxi from airport, where can i see greek dancing , what will the weather be like next may !! where do i book for boat trips All done to death, especially ive booked so and so whats it like. research before booking ! before i go to anywhere new like this year i read the forums back for months, restauarant review things to do then if i like the sound of it read all the accommodation reviews of places i like the sound of. That's why we haven't had a bad holiday in years. But some people i think are plain lazy and if everything isn't exactly as they want when they arrive start moaning. when pinkys fun posts were removed really got to me

I think that it would help reduce the same questions cropping up time and time again if TA made their "search" box more prominent, but I doubt if they will do that as it may mean people make fewer posts. Bob

Cariad if only more people were like you. I think people can't be bothered to read through a forum and so just post a question anyway. Pinky herself very patiently keeps suggesting to posters that they should use the 'search' box ... falling on deaf ears I suspect. Anyway, thank goodness there are some sensible folk around who keep a good sense of humour and proportion ... not like the self-important nitwits who keep deleting threads ~ ooops maybe I shouldn't have said that Bob, have you been to the island this year?

I dunno, Bob, I just had a look and thought the search box was prominent enough at the top of the page. For myself, the problem is I never get good results from any of the searches I do and I don't have a clue how to improve the score.
Another VERY BIG problem for me, and I'm sure for many others, is patience and time. It can take a lot of effort to try the Search route and with my success rate, I still get very little good out of it. I'm not just talking about Tripadvisor - to be honest, I don't think I've even attempted a Search on here. I tell a lie!!! I tried one only this week, I'm suyre it was the first time ever. I typed Photobucket to find the post where I did another set of instructions for getting photos on the site. I never did find it. First time, with just Photobucket, I got EVERY photo ever linked to there! next I got Woody's instructions. I tried a bit more, never got my own post, so in true Dennis fashion, I said *** it and gave up, to leave the customer with only Woody's - they're perfect, but another viewpoint might have helped. I bet you can search for it and get there long before the men come to mend our self-igniting Indesit condensing tumble dryer today.
So anyway, when we get duplicate questions here or anywhere else, I have quite a lot of tolerance for it and I think that for some newbie to get jumped on for not searching, might easily put off a potentially useful, valuable member. When I'm really good at it, I reply with a whole list of links to previous threads (but I haven't become that good at finding them on here myself yet, so I can't do the links!). On another site (different operating system or whatever it's called) I am good enough to be able to say "See here, followed by a long list of links to previous posts".

Still not managed this year Kath. I had hoped that I might but the flipping blood pressure has been playing up again and with the limited medical facilities on the island I didn't want to chance it. Thanks for asking. Bob

Better safe than sorry Bob and the island will still be there when you are ready, maybe a trip around the Highlands would make up for it.

I wish people wouldn't complain about the so called repeat questions on TA or wherever.... I understand to them it might be mundane and repetitive... but to those posting them, what harm are they doing, really? I posted these thoughts on TA myself, and just because a lot of us are forum savvy, some are not and like I said in my reply on TA the other day, by the time Ive pointed out where they can look, why not just answer their question?? Also, Ive found in the *repeat* question threads, often different points are raised as different people might be joining in and I enjoy everything and anything Skiathos related points and opinions...

I agree, Di. These folk have probably only just come across the forum when looking for info on Skiathos and don't think to do a search. No one forces anyone else to respond .... or even to read the repetitive posts! Tolerance should be encouraged ........ 😇

I hope this helps to explain things a little, we will never know who the posters were who 'downed' Pinky's thread, personally I don't believe they were Skiathos posters but people from the wider Greece Forum. I've had a PM from Ian (SkiathosLover) on TA also suggesting this is exactly what is going on.

Di,Katet couldn't agree more,as you say some people have only just discovered this wonderful haven ,in what is a world full of unrest and pressured lifestyles. What harm can come from them asking, what may seem mundane questions, also isn't it satisfying to be able to answer some of these questions, hopefully making the newbies visit more enjoyable. Great to see Pinky adding her valuable input back on forum.

Exactly, Dave - I think it's very satisfying to be able to answer questions. After all, we were all first-timers to this little paradise once and I, personally, would have loved to use these forums and ask lots of questions. As has already been said - no one is forced to either read posts or reply to them!
I love Pinky's posts - she sounds so lovely & genuine
