Regime? Nothing could be further from the truth! Maybe Elderlies wake up earlier than Normals - we do anyway. BUT we don't do Regime - I do a lot of thinking and that is not conducive to Regiming. So waking very early (or sometimes later), we have self catering simple breakfast (the only cooking is the kettle) then put on our cozzies and STROLL around the field path to the beach, get there before everyone except an odd one or two, get into the balmy sea and swim gently along the beach and back for as long or short as we enjoy, then STROLL back in wet cozzies which get close to dry on the way.
Daily town is just a gentle stroll round - we don't get there until late morning so a walk through the streets takes us nicely to our midday snack. A bit more stroll and reach the Bourtzi in time for a beer and relaxed sit down to check that the world is still round (or flat). Most of the time we chat and gossip to anybody we can waylay!
Other people do stuff I really envy - they do intrepid walking round the island. Honestly, when we hire our Jimny for two days, we see folk in hefty trainers (and flip flops) even with those walking ski pole things, at the other side of the island, having walked for a couple of hours. I imagine them singing "Val de reee, Val de raaa" as they yomp through the scrub getting all sweaty. Yes, I envy them like mad, but it's beyond us. We have to settle for the lovely atmosphere and Greeks, then enjoy a couple of days driving round and a great boat trip.
We don't like towns and lovely as it is, staying in Skiathos town doesn't appeal. Lots of people think it's the best place and can't understand us doing country bumpkin. Beware - you've read a lot of my drivel because I do drivel. Most people are too intelligent to do that so you may miss out on their enjoyable passtimes.

Long may you drivel Dennis! Bob Ah, but you're Scottish, Bob!! I went to Rosyth again this week and along the road near Biggar I saw a sign offering snowdrops for sale. Hah! Off topic drivel again.

Perhaps"regime" was too strong a word but I am still envious. Also I wish I could "drivel" as well as you Dennis - best drivel I have read in a long time.
Some years back we bought some fantastic scotch pies from a butcher in Biggar - just passing through on the way back home after a trip to Edinburgh - as you do!

Many people enjoy staying in Skiathos Town, as they enjoy the more lively atmosphere, but as I stated earlier the town is nothing like some resorts elsewhere in the Med where you have larger louts and younger people keeping you up all night. Skiathos Town just has more atmosphere than the other resorts. Personally it is not for me, I enjoy visiting the town in the evening, but prefer the relatively tranquility of the resorts. Woody Thanks for your description of the town Woody. It sounds very interesting especially the old harbour but I think that you are probably right and that it would be better to stay elsewhere and take the short trip in to town to explore and break up our lazy days.

Dennis, you will be well jealous of me at the moment. I am currently sitting in the dentist waiting room for an emergency appointment. Luckily it's for Mrs W, not me.

It was nothing too drastic, just a bit of food stuck in a tooth causing a slight bit of infection. Irrigated, so all should be fine now. Mrs W absolutely hates the dentist, so she was expecting the worse, injections, drills and fillings. Big smiles when she emerged from the treatment room.

Hi all A bit of an off topic question but I was looking in to making a booking just now through Thomson Holidays but the flights from our nearby East Midlands airport are with Thomas Cook. Just in time before committing to the booking I noticed that the return flight appeared to take over 7 hours, twice the outbound flight time. I checked on the Thomas Cook site and the flight times are the same. Does anyone have any ideas about why this is so please?

Dennis think you have aptly described most people's ideal day in Skiathos, nothing to do,and all day to do it in. Admire your efforts to swim each morning, but where better to do it in

trebor, some flights stop over at Volos or Kavala for refuelling on the way home. No big issue but can add 45 mins to an hour on the journey. Can't see though why the journey time would be 7 hours!! A quick check shows EMA return flights (Friday) leave at 18:50 landing at 22:05, 5hours 15 mins ?? (After allowing for 2 hour time difference)

EMA is not too far from Birmingham airport, won't that do? We fly from BHX and have to endure a two hour drive from our home, setting off at 3am!
