My first ever report. I've had so much advice and enjoyment from this forum, it's time I gave something back. My trip reports are not going to be the most exciting you've ever read but here goes.
Early start for us yesterday flying from Newcastle, nice flight and arrived early to Skiathos. Great landing, I felt the pilot was not as hard on the breaks as previous years, I didn't have to grab the seat in front, is the runway longer than it used to be? The airport was busy and we had to sit at the end of the runway for what felt like ages (for our 4 year old anyway), maybe it was about 20 mins, until a return flight moved off and we could park up.
Bus to the airport was a new experience but absolutely fine, not crammed in like sardines as we were at the Newcastle end. Cases started arriving really quickly and we were soon off to Skiathos premiere in Troulos. Our cases came with us on the coach which I was surprised at, is the luggage truck still in existence or does it depend where you are staying?
Weather was a bit overcast but nice and warm. Later in the afternoon we could hear thunder in the distance and thought it might be heading our way, there were literally a few spots of rain at tea time but it really brightened up in the evening.
Our accommodation is lovely, very modern, we are right at the top in the new block. We'll burn a few calories with the climb up but we have a corner balcony with a great sea view.
After unpacking we went out for a walk along the road, not the most speedy with a 4 year old who wants to stop and watch every ant she she's (trust me there's a few). Cut through the field at byzantium admiring the goats. Noticed Groom Therapy are still playing there once a week so might try to get along. Back along the main road and stocked up on supplies at the local supermarket. There are a few new eating places since we were last here, hopefully we can try them out.
Decided we would eat local and early as we had all been up since 3am, so headed across to Captain Nicos. We've never eaten here before, I don't know why it just never took our fancy but the food was pretty good. Chicken souvlaki for me, mixed grill for Andy and pizza for the wee one. Litre of house white, small water and an orange juice all for 40euros. We also got greek yoghurt with carrot jam (tastes nicer than it sounds) and the wee one got an ice cream cone much to her delight when we were presented with the bill.
Back home for an early night, I fell asleep instantly and am now wide awake at 430!
Happy holidays everyone.

Thank you soooo much Tweed. That's exactly the sort of report which I love to read. I'm not looking for 'exciting', I'm looking for 'happy ' and that's just what you've done. Cheers me up and gets my anticipation going nicely for our arrival as you leave, staying at Villa Maria which you pass on your left a couple of hundred yards on your way to the beach past Byzantium.
I realise that 4-year olds are not always supportive of reporting, but if you can keep them coming during the next two weeks, I'll be very grateful - and I'm confident so will many other readers.
Tell the goats in the field past Sunrise that Dennis and Vera will be bringing them something to eat in a fortnight.

I wrote my next instalment pressed reply and it disappeared, 2nd attempt....
We were up nice and early and claimed a spot by the pool, wee one made 2 new friends.
At lunch time we ventured across the road to a new gyros place (new to us anyway) right on the troulos junction. 3 lunches and drinks for 12.80 and very tasty it was too.
Back to the pool in the afternoon, well the wee one and me anyway as Andy looked too much like a lobster to take any more sun.
This evening we ate at Victoria, we've had drinks there before but never food. We had tatziki and courgette balls to start. Balsamic lamb for me, stifado for Andy and chicken for the wee one. Complementary drinks with the bill. Staff were lovely and wee one delighted with her whistling lolly!
Had to walk home in the wind and rain but we were well prepared. Hopefully it will be nice tomorrow for a day at the beach.
Dennis, I was so close to booking Villa Maria this year, the only thing that put me off were the 2 separate ground floor apartments, I wasn't too sure what they would be like.

The disappearing post syndrome is more common than you'd think. It's so annoying to prepare a beautiful epic and then press 'Disappear'!
May I suggest you go in and have a look at Villa Maria? I'm sure Angela the owner will welcome you and give you a look around. She speaks good English. Those two separate rooms are loved and hated - I've met people of both opinions - some who even try to request one of them.
Wee ones make friends so easily and surprisingly perhaps, even with other nationalities - many many years ago, when I was posted there, my daughter pretty much adopted herself into our land lady's family in Cyprus at the age of two and they chattered to her all the time in Greek and I'm sure she understood completely.

You've probably found out by now, but you press Reply to start writing - if you press it whilst you are already writing (or finished, ready to post), it'll start a new reply and dump what you've already written. To post the reply, you press 'Create Post'.

A bit overcast and windy today, decided to join the entire tourist population of Skiathos on the bus to town. We walked along to stop 19 so had he luxury of a seat. Stayed on to the terminus and walked along to the airport, found the geocache at the end of the runway (a great hobby and my first find abroad so really chuffed). Saw a plane come in to land which was a bonus.
Had lunch at O'Batis over looking to old harbour. We had a walk around town, the sun had come out so joined the entire tourist population of Skiathos on a bus back out of town. A lovely couple squished right up to give the wee one a seat beside them. I'm sure they had a very uncomfortable journey back to troulos but it was much appreciated.
A bit of chill out time back at the apartment late afternoon, any advice on getting an exhausted 4 year old to have a nap would be great, she is knackered by the time we go out at night.
Our evening meal was at Jestari, nice to see Lisa from the frog bar. Food was lovely and free yogurt and carrot jam and a lolly for the wee one. Only had mains and drinks tonight, 34 euros, staff were great and we will go back later in the holidays.
Hopeful of the promised beach visit tomorrow.
Thanks Dennis, hitting the reply button is exactly what I did! I won't do that again.

Lovely read Tweed. Love OBatis, great food, great views. The "trials" of holidaying with a youngster..... I remember it well. Long time ago though!! They just don't want to give in! Sorry, no magic formula. Hope you have a fabulous beach day tomorrow.

Plus one for great read again. I used to know what to do with a wee one, but age has robbed me of the details so I can't help. But I'm enjoying your holiday almost as much as she is. Just one item gives me pause - carrot jam - that sounds just as unappetising as carrot cake. Carrots are for meat and veg.
Anyway, I'll watch out for the jam when we eat at Jasteri - it's one of our regulars.

Can I just say........
You were perhaps a little hesitant about your first ever venture into reporting. It has already proven to be a success, so thank you for it and thanks in advance for any more you can manage to do. It really is exactly what we are all hanging on waiting for.

i love reading other peoples holiday reports, i can picture all the places in my mind, and it gets you in the holiday mood. Really appreciate finding the time with a little one. makes me remember some of the holidays i'd forgotten about when my 3 boys were little. Trying to get them to have an afternoon nap is good in theory, only way i could achieve it was put them in a car and drive for 10 mins, sent them off. Keep posting

Normal service has resumed, lovely and hot and sunny. Perfect for a trip to the beach. Stayed local and walked along the main road to troulos beach, stopped at the supermarket to buy a bucket and spade.
We arrived just after 1000 and there were only a few sun beds left, I'll need to persuade Andy to get out of bed a bit earlier next time. Claimed a bed next to a lovely 11 month old Greek boy, Andreous and his parents, he had a shot of our new bucket and spade. Judging by all the languages we heard today there was a great mixture of nationalities.
Enjoyed paddling and building sand castles before lunch at Zaharo. Saw a black swan but no sign of the terrepins yet.
Managed to persuade the wee one to spend some time under the umbrella with a sticker book during the hottest part of the day. In the afternoon we ventured into the sea, you get used to the temperature pretty quickly, when heading out it feels like a warm bath at the edge.
Meal tonight at Sunrise, massive potions but tasty. They are certainly trying hard with the presentation, Andy wasn't sure about his 'eye dropper' of mustard mayonnaise. Complementary cream horns made a nice change from carrot jam!
