Nice smooth TC flight from Newcastle. Arrived in Skiathos on time and met at the airport by Apostolis from Skiathos Garden Cottages.
I had read about the hills at the cottages and they lived up to their reputation, proper cardiac testers.
The cottage we had, Rose, was lovely. A good size with a large outside balcony with fantastic views of Skiathos town.
Apostolis gives lifts to and from town several times a day which are extremely useful.
My wife needs a gluten free menu so I'd sussed out some restaurants that would cater for her.
Our first night we went to Marmita. It's a lovely setting and the food was just as good. There were GF options available so it was nice to have a choice. Suffice to say we went back another night and it was just as good.
It's probably easier if I just list where we ate. We went to:
LoLa - very nice with great views over the Old Port
The Final Step - hard work to get up there but well worth the effort. Again great views and lovely food.
Kassandra Bay - frankly a bit disappointing. The food was OK but the restaurant, I think it's called Mesonyios, was pretty soulless and not at all inviting.
Manavaki - went there twice and I had the Moussaka both times and it was absolutely lovely.
Dionyssos - again went there twice. Huge portions of lovely food. On our second visit the guy who served us didn't seem to confident about my wife's meal being GF so she was a bit nervous eating it, but she said it was very nice and she had no aftereffects.
Salt and Pepper (Troulos) - had a beautiful house salad and again another great Moussaka. Lovely food in a great setting. Them 2 from Hollywood were in there too. Unlike some Americans they were quiet and just chatted with their friends, and it was good to note that nobody bugged them for photos or autographs.
Ricchi e Poveri - probably our favourite. Fabulous tapas for me although my wife's options were limited she really enjoyed it and again great views.
We tend not to do too much on our hols, apart from eat and drink, but we did catch the ferry to Skopelos and enjoyed a few hours there. It seemed a lot quieter that Skiathos.
We also saw Mamma Mia and it was great fun. I quite like the film anyway but it was a great atmosphere seeing it there.
We also tried numerous bars such as Rock and Roll, Mythos, Seagull, Bourtzi, Goldfish and others we just knew by their colourful cushions. So many nibbles you didn't really need dinner!
All in all a great trip and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, never had a bad meal. We travel a lot to Zante and found Skiathos to be more expensive, but not nearly as expensive as here in the Toon.
Very pleased we chose Skiathos and certainly hope to be back.
