2 July
Well despite using every anti mozzie product known to mankind, woke up to 5 sets of teeth marks! 12 for John
As yet the itching has not kicked in so fingers crossed the antihistamines are to thank for reducing the irritation.
Had a very lazy morning enjoying a fresh fruit & yoghurt breakfast in the wonderfully air conditioned room. Actually started to feel dare I say cold!! Then I plucked up courage to step out into the balcony ..... holy moly!! No word! It's still banned
Had planned to spend the morning at Theodora Pool?!? Oh! First ever, all sunbeds occupied or reserved! The lovely Maggie told me that when she came down to open the bar at 8am they all had towels personal on!! They provide pool towels too!! But not until the pool is actually open!
I could have gone down & "reserved" when I made a coffee 7am but why would I ? Mmm?? Never spend a full day by the pool. We would have left before lunchtime making way for someone else. Ok rant over.
So it was a nice stroll to Kolios beach. Sun beds at the water's edge. Pleasant breeze. Sound of the sea gently lapping on the shore. Heaven.
Lunch was a Greek salad, chips for himself, half carafe white wine & a bottle of water. Ok, but nothing to get excited about. €39 - thought it a tad expensive. Cost about the same as our evening meal at Avli last night. Appreciated the setting though & under the canopy they had a huge fan blasting.
Our plan after lunch was to have nap in the shade. Bear with me. We had paid our €8 for 2 beds & a brolly. Left our towels there while we lunched. On our return the 2 beds next to us were now occupied with Mum & Dad laid out, earphones, in another world, while their 3 children were playing in the sand, using the shade of our brolly.
Question: Do we bake in the sun or suggest the children move to the shade their parents were enjoying? Difficult. Anyway, rightly or wrongly I politely pointed out that we would like to move into the shade After much shoulder shrugging, & open hand gestures, (Think they were Italian) they got the children to move but not without giving us "the look" I seriously wouldn't have argued, we'd have just packed up & left the beach. But what is the etiquette ??
Evening in town with dinner at The Meating Point. I had the house special of slow cooked beef with gigantic chips & John enjoyed a pasta dish. Wine & complementary coffees, €45 A stroll along the port & we were spotted by Gregory who welcomed us like long lost friends. So had to have a drink at Archontikos, where we enjoyed a chat with one of the "Red ribbon" gang.
Can't believe that tomorrow it will be a year since our son & daughter in law's wedding on Vromolimnos Beach.........
