7 July
10 years ago I celebrated a milestone birthday in Benalmedena, Costa Del Sol. Where has another decade gone? A day by the pool with Greek Salad for lunch washed down with a bottle (well not all of it!) of champas. Had intended to go into town for lunch but decided it was too hot. Evening meal booked at RADA Seaside Restaurant. Wow! Despina, the owner (of Olive Thea fame) had decorated a beachside table in my honour! Fabulous. Plus, my dress & handbag matched the decor! Lol! The dress, I might add was a present from the family at Theodora! It was truly amazing and we were well looked after by Despina's husband George. Delicious food. The seafood risotto was fantastic. The lamb Souvlaki was apparently the best ever. Mussels in garlic, cream & ouzo wouldn't be my choice but, yes, they got a big thumbs up too. Wonderful service, & a very reasonable β¬78 for 3 people to include wine. (We asked the lovely Maggie from Theodora to join us) Not forgetting, the complementary birthday cake with sparklers!! Ended the evening back in Theodora bar taking the girls a share of the cake. Very happy. Just wish this sore throat would do one π

This sounds great.
The location at Trip Advisor has Rada in the middle of the island, which clearly isn't correct. Can you confirm?
Is the owner splitting his time between Rada and Olive Thea?

8 July Woke up feeling very sorry for myself. Throat feeling like I'd gargled with glass π€’ Trip to town to visit the pharmacy. The lovely Dennis & Vera on the same bus. So β¬18 later with the advice "no ice & no cold drinks" I was feeling even sorrier for myself π° Anyway, used the throat spray & sucked on the most vile tasting strepsil & gave myself a talking to. Walk along the port enjoying the gentle breeze. Fingers crossed I started to feel an improvement. Quick catch up with Jacqui & Ray at Driftwood; now this is a shop/workshop to visit. They're actually going to make us a Driftwood lamp base to order. Sort of "commissioned" one to suit! Lovely people. Had intended to stop by the Bourtzi but I fancied a waterside lunch after enjoying Pyrofani the other day. Bakaliko was our choice. Home made burger & starter portion of shrimp Giovetsi, the usual bread & dips, sparkling water & half a jug of wine. β¬28 And yes I did enjoy the chilled wine despite the advice not to!! Now it was a lovely meal in an enviable setting but somewhat marred by aggressive arguments between the staff. No idea but they were saying but judging by the shouting & the body language those 2 guys were really not happy with each other. Home to Theodora for an afternoon poolside snooze. Avli was our evening choice. Mixed grill, chicken special. Love how Costas describes his specials "My wife is cooking in the oven, the fresh chicken, it is so tender & tasty & cooking in clay pot". He is just so enthusiastic. (Is his wife really IN the oven? ) It was good though. Warm pitta & tapenade as standard. More chilled wine β¬40 Early night with more spraying of the throat. Yorkshiremouth, RADA is on the beach just by Kassandra Bay, between bus stop 8 & 9. By day, it is also a pool bar with sunbeds. Despina & husband George spend their time between RADA & Olive Thea. I will check back as last year it was under different oweners with a different name.

Sympathy, Tre ........ such a waste if you're poorly on holiday. Hope you've had a fab evening at the Borzoi to make up .... interested in eating there in September, as we'll be based close by. I'm also planning to eat at RADA, probably lunchtime so we can use the pool. There are so many exciting options!
Enjoy your Skiathos Monday - no blues for you two!!!! xx

9 July
Woke at 8am feeling much better π yet more throat spray administered just to be sure. Lazy pool day. Seems to be getting hotter again. Homemade lunch of small Greek salad, fresh bread & Tzatziki taken in our room. Don't you just love aircon! Obviously served with a chilled glass of wine. In town later to book Eleni boat for sunset trip to Tsougria on Wednesday evening for Di, who arrives Tuesday Dinner was a bit of an extravaganza; Borzoi. Not cheap. But you know what? It was outstanding. Probably the best meal ever on the island in our 10 visits. That includes The Windmill, Final Step, Agnadio which most would say are the "top notch" places. Ok, we still love Anatoli, our favourite, but for different reasons. So, Borzoi. Wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea (can't you tell I'm from Yorkshire!!) Sort of rustic setting in what once would have been, I can only describe as a yard. All white washed, with various coloured cushions decorating the seating. A Courtyard leading through to a cellar like cocktail & wine bar. A lovely welcome from Joanna, originally from Liverpool but fluent in Greek after being there 20 years. Water, bread & dips served within a few minutes. No rushing us though. A lovely chilled bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, glasses kept up topped up by the attentive waiter. Butterfly prawns, Greek specially cheese (served baked like a Camembert) with warm toast, apricot & pistachio marmalade & honey. Sliced fillet steak drizzled with a sauce of coriander & another herb I can't remember, served crisp potatoes slices. Mine was salmon fillet with ginger. Both absolutely delicious. The cost; just over β¬100. If you don't particularly care for your dinner plate looking like a piece of art & prefer a hearty meal, maybe not. As I said it wouldn't suit everyone but we thoroughly enjoyed.
Monday, Thanks Kate, Bad throat seems to have done one! Planning a late lunch in town to take in a bit of shopping.......

I can see me taking mum to stand outside the Borzoi to look and maybe take in the smells of the food but that's probably as far as we'd get ;-) Seriously I might have to consider it as a special last night meal depending how much we've got left by the end of the week. Entry on TA looks interesting from photos and overall good reviews (90% covered in the 'excellent' and 'very good' categories) with a few in the 'poor' and 'terrible' classes but you always get some people wanting to have a go at places no matter how good they really are.

Amy, Borzoi location; Best I can say is if you know where Blind Dog is, walk up a little further & the entrance through the cocktail bar is a little way up on the right.

10 July So it's another hot one. Far hotter than we've previously experienced. We always plan to do & see so much, but suddenly you have 3 days left! Lazed by the pool until 1pm then decided we'd go into town to do a late lunch & maybe some shopping. Bus stop 4 & a wander down to the port by the Plakes. Nice stroll along the waterfront stopping to watch the ferry dock. The size of this always amazes me. All those vehicles being transported! Bumped into a couple who we've seen here most years so lunch was put on hold while we had a drink with them on the new port. It was 4pm before we arrived for "lunch" at Ta Kymata. This was ok but nothing special. Ended up having an ice cream at Ariston & decided it was far too hot to shop. Back home then after purchasing cheese pies for snack later. Spent a lovely evening by Theodora bar chatting to fellow guest. Also got chatting to photographer Nick Karvounis, who was sat with his laptop updating Theodora website to include many more our photos from last year's theodora-studios-skiathos.com/skiathos-weddings/
