Aaha! I've just had a close look at Google maps & think we're at cross purposes - apologies, YM. I thought you were walking along the main road, round the bends and then down to the beach via the lane opposite the Mandraki! Looking at the map there seems to be a track which leads down to the harbour from the main road, nearly opposite the Palace drive, down & then on to the beach. Definitely shorter than by the road! Have a look at my post on 27th July - "out of the palace. Cross the. Road, turn right, then at the fourth tree on the left turn left and step smartly forward". Should just about get that track.

Ha, Dennis .... I thought you were teasing & the way down was to jump off the cliff! (By the way - the photo I just added of Dino was from my free Photobucket account. Don't know why it's still working!)

Augustera last night, more on that in a minute.
We got down a tad earlier than usual and went for a drink in the Stamelos bar. It was c.8:30 and we were the only ones there. I know 8:30 is relatively early, but that was still a bit of a shocker.
We watched two buses go by which didn't stop at 23, which was packed. The third stopped at around 8:50 and they all got on. I'm guessing ithe first two were full from beach traffic.
Augustera - didn't see the dog. Kids had chicken nuggets and chips, SWMBO had burger and chips, I had the meatballs which were very nice indeed. They had a large selection of wine: house white, house rosé and house red. I had half a litre of the red which was quite adequate - I was pleasantly surprised.
Nice atmosphere. Good music on the big screen, maybe just a tad loud, but not too bad.
I'm not sure I'll go back unless I want the meatballs again as there is literally no other Greek food on the menu I'd want or haven't already had.

Given our experiences so far we can't trust the buses until 9:00 (too late to be setting off with the kids). Thinking of ordering a taxi, hotel to Troulos. Any idea how much?
Thinking of eating at Salt and Pepper. Comments?
Cheers.

We found Stamelos bar extremely quiet, too - and didn't like the drinks (too weak!)
Maverick (Agustera dog) is only there during the mornings ~ it gets a bit busy for him later on & he 'guards' Efi in their house when she goes home at 11 pm.

Cheers.
A general point on the holiday. Work has been quite stressful this year, and became moreso as the summer approached. One night a few days before we broke SWMBO noted it was 8:00 at night and I was still completely distracted. It was like I was in a car doing 90mph and I'd just knocked it out of gear - the engine was still running at full revs but not doing anything.
The pace is so slow here, foot totally off the gas. We're getting nine hours + sleep every night. Breakfast at 9:30-10:00. Slow get up, slow everything, and busy doing nothing all day.
The heat is a big part of it, but not all. It's just a relaxed atmosphere.
Bliss.

I can't claim the 90mph thing (as a professional driver I never exceed the speed limit), but I know where you're coming from AND I'm sure you'll get huge numbers in agreement with the switch off thing. Tensions, furrowed brows, cares and woes just drop away. We strongly believe it's rather unique to Skiathos.

Yes, things fairly quiet before I go away but I know it's going to hit the fan in a big way soon after I come back so I'm also planning to make the most of my week out there. I can get as much relaxation from getting out and about as from lazing by the pool so I usually come back refreshed even if I've been fairly busy on the hol, its a good island for an easy mix.

We've been back 4 weeks. I came back relaxed; chilled and feeling totally refreshed. Monday soon came around and I went back to work and yes it all hit-the-fan; Skiathos now seems like a distant memory. Keep chilling YM. Great reports btw.

We've been back almost three weeks and nothing has hit the fan. Lucky me!

I think I must be mentally gearing up for going away as for the last couple of Fridays I've been checking on Flightstats to see if the TC flight from EMA got away on time. As if it will have any influence whatsoever on my own flight!

Ended up staying local yesterday night.
Went to the Big Bad Wolf and ordered the 660g Tomahawk steak. Very nervous that it would come well done (a complete waste of a lot of money), but it was perfect.
Going into town tonight, but we're on the much earlier 6:00pm bus.

I'm not massive on sunbathing, and would happily spend a fortnight under the parasol. But I try to get a bit in, and yesterday I did an hour under the sun.
Made sure I put plenty of sun tan cream on...but forgot to do my legs. OUCH!
Stinging a little, and today will sunbathe with my bottom half in the shade.
