I'd encourage tavernas to source the best house wine possible. We found several places, more expensive places, where the house wine was very good, and not much more than at the cheap tavernas. It really does make all the difference. Faced with 20-25 euros for a bottle of wine which I have to see off myself, I'd rather buy 500ml of 'house'. In that instance, I'd much rather pay 8-10 euros for 500ml of decent house wine, rather than 7 euros of something poor. [/p]
[/quote] Oh dear, I have to confess I'm a Philistine here. For me, wine comes in two versions, sweet and sour. On the VERY rare occasions when I'm having to get wine, my nemesis is "White or red, sir?" I reply I'd like sweet and they never know. I don't eat grapefruit or lemons and I don't drink sour wine. Having said which, I find that most wines taste acceptable at the fifth glass, but by that time my tongue has no feeling in it anyway!

Do hope that your mum is OK. Have been so enjoying reading about your holiday, our first visit is in about 4 weeks and we're getting very excited reading your reports. Once again hope that your mum is OK and not in too much pain.

Im currently in the old port house so a quick catch up before i retire for the night. Mum texted she was ok so will catch up with her in the morning. To fill in on the boat trip the wind was strong north side of island so the usual anticlockwise tour wasnt feasible hence piddling around a lot south side which meant a stop at Ag Eleni which wouldnt usually be a round island trip stop. To give the boat capn credit he did try to fill in as much north side as he could later in the day and we ended up having about 1 hour 15 longer than the trip was supposed to be. Great normally but mum was ready for home. I wanted to taxi her back from harbour but after buying new flip flops and dumping damaged and bloodsoaked ones in bin on pap st she walked all way back home. What a soldier.

I can just picture your Mum ~ being so interested in everything going on around her that she probably isn't paying enough attention to where she's putting her feet! Can imagine that being me in a few years ~ I'm always tripping up, but don't usually fall ~ unless I've been on the ouzo!

Having your holiday companion suffer an accident is a real worry - Vera had a trip and fall on the Sunday in the middle of our holiday, hurting her ribs and arm. Without wanting to be sexist, women are so tough you can't get a proper report from them on their condition so you worry even more than if they were able to accurately describe their condition - y'know, heart rate, blood pressure, sugar level, whatever. Not that I have even the vaguest comprehension of what any of those mean, but I feel so helpless.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Total of four full on falls but the one in kouk and yesterday on the beach were worst. Had a few drinks in old port said goodbye to folks there then slightly too much to drink in totem on way back. Vaguely recall getting up and singing a couple of songs with the band (their invite)but i cant remember which songs now! Quiet last day round pool mum has taken the dressing off and is actually having a dip. Leg looks badly bruised but the big cut hasnt reopened. I will redress it before we get a taxi out to the airport. Phone on its last 20% charge so this will have to be last report before im back. I may revisit them when i get chance next week and insert some photos as i did with 'recollections' last time. Mum is still adamant she will come back even if its on her own. Not sure about that if theres no one there to pick her up! Well thats it from me for a while, Kevb checking out.

Given your reports on drinking sessions, I'm surprised you've not had a few falls yourself!
Best wishes to your mum, I hope she's okay.
Enjoy the remainder of the holiday.

Kev, enjoyed reading your holiday reports but sorry to read about your mum's falls! What a brave lady to pick herself up, dust herself off, and carry on. You must have been so worried about her. She sounds like a really positive, strong, person and despite everything, really enjoyed her holiday. :-)

Thanks Amy. Just a final round up. Flight 40 min delay at Skiathos then after the refuel at Kavala the captain got a message from Brussels that they were asking to take a new slot (wonder if this is Brexit related?) meaning we had to wait a further 40 min than we should have at Kavala. This is the real downside of these return flights on airbus planes. Got home about 12:45 am local time so we were pretty exhausted. Washing on the go and jobs to do today (mainly an aquarium clean out)then have to drive mum up back to Yorkshire and I have a gig to play with a band I'm helping out when I get back tomorrow. Back at work Monday!
