Arrived Friday, flight landed 15 minutes early,so a great start to the holiday. usual queue for toilet in arrivals, although they are new ,capacity has not been increased. saturday spent lounging on the beach in Kanapitsa, it appears nearly all beaches have already got sunbeds on them. Forgot how enjoyable boat taxi from town is, great way to travel. Ate at the bourtzi club off papadiamanti last night, good food but a tad expensive compared to other places in town. finished off a most enjoyable evening in Phedrock bar, always a warm welcome. Today spent in town, enjoyed a mid day drink on the bourtzi, great venue to chill and watch boats coming in and out. island quite busy, seems to be quite a few of our German friends here. weather has so far exceeded forecasts, temperatures in mid 20s and so far no sign of any rain. so good to be back.

It sounds as though you are having a great time Dave, but prepare yourself for a right telling off from Dennis. He instructed everyone to go to the toilet in the plane just before landing and you chose to ignore his advice. Tut tut, just wait 'till he sees your report! 😂 Bob

You might have arrived on the plane we departed on Friday back to Birmingham as that was early, a little different to the usual late one's leaving in August. We have never been to the island this early but we found it very different without many other tourists and the beaches with just a handful of other people on and some tavernas not open yet, weather was mixed but we had a great time.
We stop in Ag Paraskevi usually but decided to stay in town for our anniversary to explore a bit more and try new restaurants and enjoyed a new Italian called Giardino Segreto (secret garden) which was just a little way up from Marmita, it has a large wood burning oven and they were just finishing off the 'secret garden' courtyard in the back of the restaurant which looks lovely and the food was great. We can also recommend Ricchi e Poveri for food, service and view as well as the Bourtzi, excellent cocktails.
We stopped in La Piscine Hotel which we would highly recommend for the accommodation, service and excellent breakfast choice but cannot understand why the restaurant - The Crazy Cow gets such high acclaim on TripAdvisor as we thought the menu was average, similar to a British pub.
Like you we took the water taxi to Kanapitsa which fortunately started last Wednesday but unfortunately the Kanapitsa Taverna was still setting up so not fully open to enjoy their fantastic squid but will have to wait until we go in August.
Talking of toilets at the airport they are refurbishing the ones in the departure area and were not in action when we had gone through security so had to go back out to other toilets and then back through security again, fortunately they got them open after a couple of hours as the crowds were building up. Another thing at the airport they have introduced the concertina queuing system at check-in and security so be prepared to get dizzy!!

I shall hold in my mind's eye a picture of a bald bloke hopping around in the queue with crossed legs. It will NOT happen to me.

Having spoke to a few locals who we have become friends with over the years, it appears the German operators of the airport have erected fencing to the perimeter,, this is making access to desires taverna a lengthy walk from the airport.
We fully intend to walk down club strip to Millos for lunch one day, will investigate further then.
Weather excellent so far, although wind got up a bit last night, no rain
Ate at 1901 last night, very good as usual, starter, main and complimentary desert, washed down with half carafe of house wine. 39 euro.
Ventured into Benbows for a drink, first visit under new ownership, place certainly has had a face lift, and we received a very warm welcome from new hosts. . Somebody commented last night, visitors to the island more 40/80 than 18/30. But everyone sociable regardless of age.

Could that age range theory be down to school holidays?

Probably a factor Dennis, also the invasion by young Greeks normally does not happen till later in the season
As mentioned everyone sociable regardless of age, something about sunshine and surrounding seems to bring out best in people, pleasant to receive a god morning from complete strangers.

One of the best things about greek holidays is that every year always meet lovely ,like minded people, the sort of people you would like to meet at home and never do. Nice to see a new reporter poppywood on here, that courtyard taverna sounds nice.

Superb weather again yesterday, spent the day on megali ammos beach, virtually all tavernas open.
Stopped at cafe del mar on the way back to town, great place to stop for a drink on way back to town, amazing views.
Shared a mixed grill for 2 at the meating place, just off church square by the old Port house bar, really good, portions large so skipped the pudding, 32euro including half carafe of wine.
Heard excellent reports of a new restaurant in town ‘ the secret garden’ just opposite marmita , going to give it a try this evening, we went to locate it this morning, and also discovered another new place at the rear of marmita , this looks near completion but no signage up yet.
Believe there are a couple more new restaurants in town, but yet to come across them.

Sounds like your having a fantastic holiday Dave (long May it continue). I can’t reply with an informative comment because you obviously know Skiathos so much better than me me! Just reading your threads is making me very happy, and jealous. Thanks for the first of what I hope many great 2018 feedbacks.

Dined at new ‘secret garden’ Italian restaurant last night, very much a contemporary courtyard setting, excellent service and food. Bruschetta with tomatoes, feta and garlic to start, followed by very generous lamb shanks in a wonderful orange and mustard sauce, bottle of decent Pinot Grigio 52 euro.
Spent today on Kanapitsa, taverna opened today so had lunch, my favourite seafood risotto, still as good as ever, Became overcast this afternoon, and started to spot with rain as we got off boat taxi, what else could we do but seek shelter in ‘mythos Bar’ Rain fortunately only lasted for about 10 minutes.
Last full day tomorrow, we still have so many places we would like to visit, never long enough on Skiathos.

I can’t believe it’s coming to an end already, just not fair is it.

This is always a problem with week long Skiathos holidays; no sooner have you relaxed from the mania of the first day (flight and airport experience) it's time to go home. I echo Dennis here in saying "it doesn't seem fair". Enjoy your last day Dave.
