Day 6 The beautiful Skiathon sun is back 😄. Woke up to a fresh sunny morning and I went to the pool whilst my partner went to rescue the quad from its abandoned spot in town. We decided to do a proper beach day and plumped for Ag Eleni. Stopped in Agustera for a late breakfast where we also witnessed 4 female casually dressed tax inspectors checking out all till receipts, they were working their way down all eating establishments in Koukanaries, nothing untoward about Agustera. Hit the beach and the water was quite choppy, remnants of last night’s bad weather and lots of wood etc floating in it but it was fresh and a lovely breeze on the beach. Didn’t eat there, just had an ice cream & cold drink (a can of diet coke costs €3 there!!) and we had a lovely day and to be honest it felt like our first proper day, considering the bad weather over the last 2 days. Back to Skiathos Diamond for a shower, quick beer on the balcony - we don’t do sitting on the balcony with a beer & nibbles enough, then strolled into Ag Paraskevi to Meso Strato for a meal. Popped into Iguana bar to catch the quiz which is always quite fun even though we don’t partake. Afterwards we went up the lane to Dimitris Bar, as this was our late night call in point on the way back to Paschalis studios where we stayed last year. Meant just to say hello to the lovely Dimitris over a night cap but a few later we’ve only just got back ‘home’ (it’s 0215) - woops! The walk back was warm so I expect it to be scorchio tomorrow! No plans as yet, just the way I like it.......

Well bvrc, come rain or shine, you are certainly 'not letting the grass grow under your feet'! Sounds like you are having fun whatever the weather. 😀
Had a wonderful baked fish dish in the Mouria my first year on the island and raved about it to my next door neighbours at the hotel I was staying in. The following year, we were back at the same time and I met up with them again and we went back to Mouria for dinner. The anticipation of eating this dish again built as we sat on the new harbour enjoying a drink but on ordering our meal I was told that the dish was 'finished' for the night. My disappointment was palpable ..... Not visited since! Not that the rest of the menu isn't good, some nice food there, just that this dish was the best I had eaten both there and on the island.

Day 7 Can’t believe we’re halfway through our holiday & the second week always goes quicker than the first. Breakfast again at Cosi cafe on the new harbour, watching the usual chaos that ensues when unloading and loading one of the many passenger boats. It’s utter bedlam but they seem to get the job done. Croissants at Cosi are the size of small loaves 😄. We opted for Xanemos beach today as it was very hot & we needed a breeze. The sea is difficult to get into but once in, it was very pleasantly warm & crystal clear. My partner went off mid afternoon for some fishing (messing around with a fishing rod anyway) back towards town, on the harbour side of the bridge from the lake next to the airport, caught a few sea bream which kept him happy. Xanemos beach music is always nice to chill out to & there were more people there than normal, unlike other beaches we’ve been to where numbers are down. Returned to the apartment for a quick turnaround before we bussed it into town (still standing mode on the busses) - we went to Karnagio for dinner, beside the Alkyon hotel, has always been a restaurant but new owners, chef & menu for this year. I don’t normally review restaurants as everyone works very hard on the island and everyone can have good & bad days, but Karnagio was excellent - really beautiful food. A bit pricey and it’s not somewhere one would go every night but for a special occasion or a treat it is worth it. We needed a walk after eating to settle the full bellies so walked on down club strip, restaurants along there have changed over the years, they used to be more taverna style but now look more swish, lots of seafood places. The clubs have all shut up shop for the season as well, not that that matters to us 😄 Strolled up Papadiamantis St to Main St bar, had one drink and headed for the bus. Realised I’m zonked, I haven’t exactly been energetic this past week but all this sitting around, eating & drinking, all this holiday malarkey can take it out of you 😂. Couldn’t walk past Xanthi without a night cap so had 2, now back to bed at 10 mins to 2 - better get an early night one of these nights! Night night folks!

BVRC, ‘ no plans yet’ that’s a perfect day in Skiathos. Enjoying your updates, keep on enjoying life on the island. Our plans can be very loose and change at a moments notice anyway, so we work on the ‘let’s not bother making definite ones’ , especially on holiday 😄

Oh, bvrc, I am soooo enjoying your holiday, I hope you don't mind! It's getting me truly in the mood for next Friday. And thank you so much for arranging for next Friday's stormy weather to disappear off my App, makes me feel a lot better. To top it all off, this week's Friday flight from Birmingham has just taken off and shows on Flightradar24 as passing over Royal Leamington Spa. Let's all wish it the same punctuallity next Friday.

i'm off to sunny norfolk next friday Dennis so dont need to worry about the flight just traffic, which is usually very quiet in norfolk compared to the lunacy of Leicesters many one way systems, and millions of traffic lights. I'm sure you will have a great time whatever the weather, its Greece i can never stop smiling from the minute i get off the plane.

Thank You! I’m so glad my holiday as whetted your appetite for your own 😄. This day week I can pass on the baton to you for holiday updates! After the storms earlier in the week I thought it would things down & evenings would be fresher - I was wrong, in all the times I’ve been here this is the warmest it’s been at nights. Mid 20s every night except for the 2 nights of the storms, so if it continues...., leave your warm clothes behind you 😄

Good stuff this. It’s certainly making think of a return visit in 2019. Thanks for making me a happy man. Enjoy your second week. Thank you! Do it, you know you want to 😄. I love holidays & have travelled a bit with work & pleasure but no matter where my partner & I have went on pleasure holidays, we make comparisons with Skiathos. So now, we don’t fight it, we try and come here every 2 years or as is the case now, every year! My sisters & friends think we’re a bit predictable but we know half an hour after touchdown of that plane, what we’re doing that afternoon & where we are going that night. We do stay somewhere different every year to keep it ‘different’ but end up visiting our old haunts and acquaintances 😄😄

Day 8 Early argument from our neighbours (holidays can be stressful 😄) woke me before 0800 but I snuggled down for another couple of hours, & hit the pool about 1030. After an hour or so my partner decided it was time to get the day started, we headed to Christakis sports bar for breakfast as we had thought about going to Asselinos beach. Bus stops had token people plus suitcases which was indicative of a busy airport day - that’ll be us next week except it’ll have to be a taxi for us as I’m a woeful packer & have a suitcase three quarters the height of me 😩. Although nights have been very warm here (27C last night as we sat outside Main St bar) so my usual array of ‘scarves’, jackets & cardigans could have been left at home! Ended up going to Maratha beach, a new one for us as it has always looked a bit hectic from the haphazard parking arrangements on the road. It was lovely, got loungers right at the end next the rocks and although there was a lot of seaweed in the water it was shallow enough to wallow about in. I’m not a strong swimmer & have my own unique style of swimming which some might say is not real swimming but I don’t like getting out of my depth too close to the shore. At one stage there was a fish jumping display put on for all us beach peeps!! Lots of fish, different ones, all jumping in perfect arches as if something out of sight was chasing them. My partner reckoned some of them were tuna. They were about fish plate size to a foot long, not the little skittering ones Dennisn talks about and looks forward to seeing at Troulos on his morning swim. There was about a dozen of them, all different. After a lovely relaxing day there, it was back to the apartment for a refresh, then we took the bus to Koukanaries - woah, the buses both directions so much quieter, even got a seat! We went to the The Big Bad Wolf for dinner, it was busy but no problem with walk ins. Afterwards we headed down to Agustera for a few drinks, good music & requests taken for some quite random music 😄. Got bus back, again quiet, late! Xanthi, Skiathos Diamond, Veronika & Theodora closed, no nightcaps - OMG it must be late!!

I'm a bit worried. I find myself agreeing with Dennis's comments! A great read, but what a waste of a morning staying in bed until 10.00 am. 😀 I look forward to reading the rest of your reports. Bob

Bob But bvrc isn't going to bed until 2am - that's like me going to bed at 10pm and getting up at 6am. When I go to bed at 2am, I can't stand on two feet at "morning".
