Im on the phone, this is a quick touching base report. Came in about 50 min late yesterday and my case was among the last 20% off the carousel. It was arranged thst the accommodation owner would meet me at airport as the rooms are a bit tricky to find. So he turns up with his brother and... 2 scooters. I thought he was joking but no. My suitcase wedges across and behind brother on scooter 1. Owner with me and my rucksack as pillion on scooter 2. And the initial driveway off the main road is about 1 in 3. No helmets. Well i can about it now. As i was hastily unpacking got txt from my cousin that mum was bushed after a long day (they were on manchester early flight) so i walked up to Taxiarchis to surprise mum in the bar. Sadly no photo or video but the initial look of uncomprehension on her face was s picture. No tears ( we're from Yorkshire)but i could tell she was taken aback and now delighted im around. Cousin didnt fsncy a boat trip but mum loves them so we are off to do skopelos and alonissos with Victoria on Monday but that will be another report. I met some facebookers last night in blind dog. Didnt wake until nearly 10am this morning (yes i can hear Dennis tutting from here). Im at the tennis club catching a few rays and the pool beckons so thats all for now.

Bit of a late one last night. Ate at Carnayo with mum and cousin. Good food and service maybe slightly over odds on price. 1 starter 3 bread rolls and 3 main courses plus bottle of house red just over 66 euros not including tip. Up to old port house for a couple then saw the girls off to their hotel and i sneaked one in at phedrock followed by anothervin Totem butvthst was typically heaving for a sat night so i slipped out at 1.30am. Yoghurt with fruit honey and cinammon this morning then the 'big stroll'(me only, girls did their own thing). Harbour to Xanemos beach then round the headland to Megali Gialos beach. Steep goat track down to beach and all way back up again. Walked up to megali gialos taverna for a leisurely lunch (large mythos bately touched the sides). Then back on the road ealked back to town via Kalivia. Eventually come out near bus stop 1 (yes yorkshiremouth it is there it does exist but the writing on the post has almost been bleached away by sun). Poasting this from tennis club before heading back to apartment. Wifi is rubbish there and the laptop wont behave i think this is its last trip abroad. Will have to fill in photos later when i get back to uk like last year. The tennis club pool is shut for maintenance today so im not hanging about. Kevb signing off for now. Xanemos beach partly into the big stroll down the north side of airport far end
Mega Gialos beach from top of outcrop Mega Gialos beach after scramble down Mega Gialos taverna A bit of nature on the way home

Thats a good walk, if you wano back gate a pool and tennis club shut or an alterntive turn left out of tennis club along lane past anenemos and you come to back gate of oasis where you will get a warm welcome, warning the sofas round the pool so comfortable, food good company good you may not leave for several hours

Kev, most holidays are great, and all holidays to Skiathos are fantastic.
But a quick, unplanned, down-and-dirty, under-the-radar getaway is surely right up there with the very best.
Like finding a tenner in your jeans pocket that you'd forgotten was there.

Stroll, seems like a bit of a route march, as Yorkshire mouth said, off the cuff holidays sometimes end up the best, only a few weeks ago we fitted in a 4 night stay and had a superb break. Hope your mum has got over the surprise of you turning up, hope you all have a wonderful holiday

Kev B - what a lovely thing to do for your mum! I hope you both have a lovely holiday! In this heat I admire your hiking! We love it out by Xanemos beach area and know the beach you refer to, round from Xanemos but have never made it down there.

Sorry, I pressed go before I was finished! The ‘suitcase on scooter’ sight is one I have seen many times in Greece but I always assumed it would be some crazy Greek off on his travels 😂. Bet you were hanging on for dear life! If that happened to me they would launch into Greek shouting as my jumbo case wouldn’t fit on a scooter!

Thanks for all the good wishes folks. My cousin didnt fancy a boat trip so just me and mum on the Ag Nikolas with Victoria as guide. Full boat they had to get one bus to come back for a second load to get up to the old town on Alonissos. Id never done that bit so we both did it. Earlier i took mum to the lovely Thassas cafe on the hillside patio round the back of Skopelos town when made that first call of the day. Wonderful yoghurt with fruit and honey there id done it solo back 2012. Big school of dolphins on way back from Alonissos with babies mixed in with adults lovely to watch. First time ive seen any here and even the guide was surprised at the numbers. My cousin has never experienced a proper gyros so we are off for one later since we had a full meal last night at Dionyssos. Both lamb kleftico and beef stifado were first rate and a nice lad doing the waiting on us, got the tone just right. The girls headed back to taxiarchis and i had 1 in old port house and another in totem before wending my weary way home up up and up to my digs near the windmill restaurant.
THE BOAT TRIP
Back side of the rock with the mamma mia church on it, Skopelos
Mum enjoying her home made 'tea' at Thassas cafe in Skopelos town
They do a pretty mean yoghgurt and fruit with honey at Thassos too, not to mention the frappe
Old twn, Alonissos - are they selling hangers or just sold out of t shirts?
Old town Alonissos - they go a bit overboard the old monk seal thing...
A bit more wildlife, Alonissos
As close as I got to a dolphin photo but there were dozens around on the trip home

From location of your room, I guess mike and spiros where your scooters chauffeur, I may be wrong but have been friends with the brothers for 20 years. Sounds like you’re having a wonderful time with your mum, mums are special, happy memories being built

Not much to report yesterday so we were mostly down the beach at Meg Ammos staying near Swells and having lunch there. Evening I thought id better show my cousin there was more to the island than town so we bussed it down to Kouk and had a meal in big bad wolf followed by drinks at first the stamelos bar and then agustera but we were so late there thst i think Effi had gone home, quick hello to Dino who still seems to recognise me even though its 5 yrs since i stayed in kouk. Also a group there containing someone from one of the facebook forums so had a quick chat there and bus back to town. Doing it this way means fairly empty buses both ways. Might get out and about a bit more today if the old legs can manage it.

Not that much to report today either. Maybe im finally getting the hang of this 'relaxing holiday' malarky. Mum had never been to the evigilistria ( or a similar spelling variant) monastery so met her at terminus and took the minibus up there for an hour and half, quick soft drink in cafe next door ( eye waterin prices) then minibus back. Then strolled on to Mylos for a mid day mythos and watched acouple of planes come in. Mum went back to her hotel and i went to mibe got changed and spent rest of afternoon at the tennis club (pool back in action but still a bit hazey). Chatted to a few folks there then tonight been off up to a BBQ at mums hotel. Might be meeting up with a facebooker again for a cocktail and a bit of live music. Running out of days where do they go?
MONASTERY VISIT
The old olive press
Preserves maturing in the courtyard
Rare sighting of KevB, seen here trying to recover from the bill for 2 soft drinks in the cafe next to the monastery
And finally on to Mylos for a quiet beer. Well quiet until one of these comes in...

We like the music Dino plays plus when he runs out of choices he takes requests.

Sounds perfect, Kev! It's only 5 days now for us ..... I'm too excited to sleep properly (This doesn't happen with other holidays - must be the Skiathos-effect!)
