We have often felt dismay over the hard work required to post photos in topics here.
But I have to say that the direction followed by the Old Boomerangers Facebook page gives me cause for rejoicing that we would have to work very hard to wallpaper our forum to match FB. I realise I’m being a bit of a hypocrite here, because I’ve posted photos over there. But now, in the off season, FB seems to have moved into nothing but a massive photo gallery and whilst photos are nice to have, it would be far nicer if people had something interesting to write accompanying their photos.
So I’m sorry, I can’t find it in my heart to regret that posting photos here is difficult.

i sometimes think that on FB people are living their lives via forum and wishing their lives away until the next holiday. There are so many posts that when im on home page i just whizz by half the time to get see posts by people i know. Also alot of people seem to be offended people go elsewhere, yes skiathos is fabulous, great beaches friendly people but you have to be open minded, and i think lots of us on here are open to change and life is short and theres so many places in the world to see. I wish i had more time and money so that i could have one holiday a year in skiathos and 2-3 others in new places, but until 6 numbers !

I met a couple of folks from the skiathos singles FB group this year. One of them currently in Dubai and the other in South Africa. Alright for some! ;-) I've also been meaning to post on here recently, has anyone noticed how Tripadvisor are now trying to look more like facebook, easier to post photos etc there? I wonder if they will relax the still rather draconian attitude to removing some posts from forum threads as well?

I’m not a busy user of TA, just enough to notice their copy & paste post where something has been deleted, with no indication of why.
I have been banned from a few websites (including Skiathos Friends Facebook) for forcefully condemning their practice of deleting “offending” posts. I hold the view that you MUST warn and explain any offence without deleting (subject to deleting naughty words). Because without seeing what’s wrong, other people don’t get educated on what’s not allowed.
Just saying!

Life is to short to have regrets, Must agree about FB , although I look at it, sometimes feels like a personal members club, outsiders not welcome. Also some of recent photos posted , certainly not remotely Skiathos related, nice new car but of no interest.
On a positive note now less than 6 months till we return 😎✈️

To be fair in the winter there isn't going to be much relevant traffic on any forum relating to predominantly summer holiday islands whether its FB, TA or places like this. I only joined FB earlier this year because of another hobby where all the relevant online forums seemed to be dying a death (and were US based anyway which wasnt a lot of use to me)and I happened upon a couple of Skiathos related ones by accident. So far everyone has been rather welcoming and I had a couple of enjoyable nights out with folks from one of the FB sites on my holiday this year.

I mostly agree with what's been said here - Facebook IS sometimes like a private members club and people get very argumentative about nothing very important (as they tend to on TA). However, I quite like using FB just for photos, and do enjoy seeing other people's pics (some of which are stunning!). I also feel I know the island a bit better from looking at other folks holiday experiences. I enjoy the daily Boomersnap challenge .... but I suppose that's because I've too much time on my hands these days!!
This forum is so great for a bit of a chat and for all of the the excellent holiday reports - a few more photos would be nice, but you're spot on, Dennis, easier posting would probably spoil the vibe on here!!

Our thoughts exactly; why limit yourselves to just one holiday destination when there's so many exciting places to see and experience in the world. If we could afford to holiday twice a year we'd visit Skiathos every year and move to somewhere we'd never been for the second. Sadly it's not possible for everybody, certainly not us, but for those that can I'd say "good on you". We've sold our house and are now seeking a new one. If we find what we're looking for we may join the 'elite' in two trips abroad next year !

We have just put our house on the market need to downsize, the garden is too big and too much work. You have given me an idea we can have a really special holiday with money left over mmmmm Australia ? got a cousin on the gold coast ! I did think of a buying a caravan in norfolk for shortbreaks then my husband pointed out how many greek holidays we could have for the cost of a caravan . I would like to spend the whole summer drifting around the greek islands especially the little known ones bliss.

I would like to spend the whole summer drifting around the greek islands especially the little known ones bliss. Many years ago, my in-laws bought a caravan for exactly that reason. But they hardly ever used it and all the people who they expected to go visiting them didn't. When they came to sell it to get rid of it, they discovered the site terms meant they could only sell it to the site owner and couldn't pass their site to new owners. All round bad deal.

yes the more i look into it the worse idea it sounds, lots of hidden expenses. my friend has one but theyve taken early retirement and go for weeks at a time but it 2 years theyve lost about £12,000 in value of the van. Luckily they have plenty of money to go to greece at least 3 times a year too.

Sorry this is off-topic. I know that money is usually the main consideration when holiday planning, but (may have mentioned this before) we downsized ten years ago as we had found the perfect sized place in the perfect location. Paul (who was a financial advisor pre-retirement) had it all worked out perfectly money-wise and we decided to retire at 63 and have many varied holidays, with at least 2 weeks a year in Skiathos. Four months before our retirement date it all went pear-shaped with Paul becoming ill & we had to cancel our 2 month 'present-to-ourselves' Skiathos trip. However, that was three years ago now & we have been twice a year since then, plus to various other lovely places. Anyway, we had 10 days in Gran Canaria booked for this Monday but I have had to cancel as he had a stroke last Thursday!!!! Not a doom & gloom story though, as he's now home and doing really well. He lost the left side, but it's all come back - just needs strengthening now. I keep thinking --- what if it had happened over there? Awful! Paul will bounce back - he loves his holidays even more than I do! Moral of the tale - good health is the most important asset of all
