How refreshing to hear you being so positive after what must have been a frightening experience. I hope that Paul makes a speedy recovery and that it isn't too long before you are packing your case again. It is so true what you say about the importance of good health, yet so often we just take it for granted. Bob

Positive thinking is a great asset to have, Kate wishing Paul a speedy recovery, hopefully still meet up with you at the Atlas next May. Just a coincidence, today is the first anniversary of my brothers passing, taken suddenly by an aniarism, only 59, life is too short , make the most of every day

Thanks, both of you. Yes - it's our absolute duty to make the most of every day, Dave. Losing a sibling is very difficult - sending condolences. (Lost my brother, aged 49 in 2006 - he lived life to the full, which somehow makes it a little easier to bear.)

We have just put our house on the market need to downsize, the garden is too big and too much work. You have given me an idea we can have a really special holiday with money left over mmmmm Australia ? got a cousin on the gold coast ! I did think of a buying a caravan in norfolk for shortbreaks then my husband pointed out how many greek holidays we could have for the cost of a caravan . I would like to spend the whole summer drifting around the greek islands especially the little known ones bliss. Many years ago, my in-laws bought a caravan for exactly that reason. But they hardly ever used it and all the people who they expected to go visiting them didn't. When they came to sell it to get rid of it, they discovered the site terms meant they could only sell it to the site owner and couldn't pass their site to new owners. All round bad deal. I could live with a summer visiting different Greek islands but a caravan in Norfolk is a definite no no. The Australian Gold Coast isn't for me either. I spent 23 hours flying to Perth in 1991 and I never want to endure that again.

Hope paul is continuing to recover, it must have been an awful shock. Working in a hospital, i know good health is the most precious thing ,without it all the money in the world is meaningless. My stepdaughter age 24 had a bleed onthe brain 2 years ago gave us all a fright, shes well now they can find no reason for it. Its made her nervous going abroad thinks "what if" she had just come back fom usa. We are off to norfolk for the weekend, i really feel for all those people stuck in gatwick hope they get away. Have a great christmas everyone and a happy healthy new year.

I'm glad Paul is on-the-mend. Sorry I didn't reply sooner Kate but having suffered a brain injury myself I know how much of a personal it is; I wouldn't wish that on anybody. Cariad23 if you get anywhere near Sheringham give me a shout, we'll meet up for a drink !!

Regarding the whole 'caravan' thing.
My outlaws have a caravan in West Wales. The caravan is open from March to October, and they 'sort of live there' during those months, though they pretty much clear out for the Easter & Summer and let the rest of the family utilise it (we're all pretty much tied to school holidays). I suppose for the 8 months its open they're there for 4 or 5 months altogether. When the rest of us are there in the Summer, they often take off on holidays to the continent.
Since our youngest was born we've been quite skint most years, and unable to afford to go abroad. Subsequently, we've been going there a couple of times a year; this year it's been three! It's been a great benefit and very welcome.
When browsing the interweb I spotted that you can buy a small townhouse in Skiathos for £60,000-£90,000. Small, but no smaller than a static caravan, and not depreciating in value every year. I think a caravan & plot would be about £40,000 or so, almost all of which you'd lose eventually.
When I mention this to the other half she says she wouldn't want to be stuck going to the same place every year...but wouldn't it be nice to have a caravan in West Wales.

Lovely part of the world EGG, so peaceful quiet roads compred to our city. We had to collect something for my son from near Thetford so had a nice drive across parts never been before, Bungay Diss etc then up quiet roads towards downham market and A47 much nicer than crazy dual carriageways and main roads.
