Really don’t know how we’ve got to Sunday. Well it’s actually Monday now. I’ve not posted updates as we’ve had a bit of a tough time, Little Luca was really unwell on Friday so they took him back to medical centre. Next thing they’re on the ferry to Volos with paediatrician & he’s admitted to hospital. What a worry. Blood tests & X-rays, they were thinking pneumonia, but results concluded a bronchial infection. It’s been so horrid. Anyway, to cut to the quick, we’re really hoping they’ll be back on the ferry to Skiathos tomorrow 🤞🤞 I want to see him on the beach, ice cream round his mouth & eating sand ☺️ This afternoon / evening was spent at the wedding of a rather lovely Boomeranger’s son’s wedding at Rada. Truly special. But, I want to see my baby.........

Hopefully the grandma cuddles will happen tomorrow, Tre, but what a worrying time you have all had. It must have been scary when you found out that Luca had to go to Volos hospital .... and his poor parents will be shattered, I expect.
Good that you managed to get to the wedding - hope you had a lovely time xx

Well Tre, I’ve clicked ‘like’, but I really didn’t like to read of your problems with Luca. Having illness on holiday abroad is very worrying and much more so with a one year old. I’m sure we all wish a good outcome.

Tre, I echo Kate's comments. Very worrying time for all of you. I am sure he can look forward to lots of lovely cuddles from his Nana. Enjoy the rest of your holiday 😆

Morning, just waiting for “the call” Little one has been without high temp for over 24 hours as of 6am. They’re hoping the doctor gives the all clear so they catch the 2pm ferry 🤞🤞

Good news, Tre, really good. Let's all hope the holiday can resume and maybe he'll be extra lively when he gets back with you.
I'm not sure if this is an appropriate thing to ask, but I really want to know and I'm sure other people will too. Is this costing anything? Medical treatment and travel costs? My injury didn't cost anything, except the pharmacy price of my tetan us injection kit, and I had a free ambulance ride (and nobody asked to see my EHIC card either, they just took me in and cared for me). Ferry to Volos sounds like paying, not medivac?

Oh Tre I agree with all the comments above and hope that Luca will soon be back at Theodora's. It's bad enough when anyone takes ill on holiday, but when it is a baby who can't tell you anything it must be much worse. I hope that this bad experience doesn't spoil the families feelings about Skiathos.

Hello from Hotel Aegli in Volos😣 Luca couldn’t come home so we’ve come to him. White blood count not come down enough to discharge him. We could seriously have enjoyed the ferry over had it not been for the school full of very loud hyperactive teens! Racing round the decks like nutters. I seriously hoped one would trip up over my outstretched legs 😜 Anyway, I’m sure you can guess the response on arrival at the hospital. Yep, lots of tears. My boy is in bits. He cried on my shoulder like a baby. And yes, I’m crying now. Little one just looked bewildered but within minutes he was enjoying all the fuss & cuddles. It’s so very hard. We persuaded son to come to our hotel for a shower & change of clothes “Mum I’ve had the same pants on since Friday” He agreed to a a quick beer on the port before going back to the hospital. Don’t think I said, but his wife’s parents are here too. So Mum & little one had support in his absence. They now just want to go home, get on a plane & go home. Heartbreaking to see them so distraught. Let’s see what tomorrow brings 😔

Oh Tre, I feel very deeply for all of you. I have to think it has been a good thing that both sets of grandparents are present to give close support.

Tre - what a good job you and John and the other grandparents are there too. Can’t imagine how awful it would be if you were in the uk and couldn’t get to them. (There should be a ‘don’t like’ button on here!)
Poor little mite - but at least he won’t have clue what’s going on. It’s Mummy and Daddy who are bearing the strain. A trip to remember for all the wrong reasons 😰
Hope the new day brings better news xx

Tre, I was so hoping for the news that your family were back together on Skiathos this morning, how really upsetting for you all. I am sure it is a great comfort to your son and daughter-in-law that they have both sets of parents with them at such a worrying time. xx

This thread is a bizarre mix of the heart-wrenchingly emotional, and irresistible saga. Tre, I’ll tell you the story of a mate who went to Italy with his foster kids. One of them had a very serious illness which left him in hospital for over a week. I won’t say they look back and , but they do look back and see it as a bit of an episode. There are no emotional scars. My heart goes at to you. Please remember that one day this will all be just a memory.
