Good stuff from Dave, I've never eaten at Polykratis either so I will file it away as another potential for this year's trip where I'm trying to avoid anywhere that I've eaten before in the evening and try new places. Ive only travelled from the airport twice by taxi, on my first ever trip when I didn't realise how easy it was to walk to town (shared it with a couple who were staying in town then found bus stop 4 on my own to go to Kouk) and then a couple of years ago when I brought mum. Last year I was transported to digs clinging on to the back of a scooter. It will seem strange this year as I will be arriving by ferry so no thrill of the final approach in from the air.

Yesterday was overcast, which turned out to be ideal for most of our party who are newbies, excellent for wandering around getting your bearings. We spent the day calling in on friends, just to say hello. Late afternoon the sun decided to come out, this coincided nicely with several of our party who are staying out of town to visit, it did get a tad messy. Last night we ate in the meeting place, opposite old port house bar, I attempted one of their famous enormous pork chops, now I have a healthy appetite, but found this a challenge. The meat was excellently cooked, delicious. They must have their pigs on steroids.
Today we went over to Kanapitsa to finalise arrangements for my birthday lunch on Thursday, usual Skiathos welcome, nothing too much trouble, we spent most of the day on the beach , weather is glorious today, now ready for tonight’s onslaught
Tomorrow more of our party arrive, including 2 of my grandchildren, can’t wait . Will be my daughters first return since she worked a season in the windmill 2003, be interesting to see how much she thinks things have changed.
Now we’re staying in the same hotel as Kate, but yet to bump into her, will be nice to eventually say hello.

Thank you all for the good wishes, birthday was memorable, I was in the place I wanted to be, with the people I wanted to be with, what more could I have asked for.
Our daughter and her 2 boys are here so having some great family fun, they are staying at the oasis, which is perfect for them, Mike and his family are wonderful hosts. As I mentioned, our daughter worked on the island and hasn’t been back since 2003, she thinks it’s busier now but not changed that much, she is however wondering why she left it so long to return, think she’s fell in love with the place all over again.
Finally met up with Kate and Paul, nice to have a chat ,

Good day yesterday, 9 o’clock boat to Kanapitsa, morning spent on the beach with our 2 grandsons, sandcastles have a much higher spec now than when I was a lad.
Boat back into town, we went and viewed a house in megali ammos which we are thinking of renting for a month next year, seems to suit our needs. We had a relaxing lunch at Cafe del mar, one of our favourites.
Back into town and a stroll to the tennis club to meet up with our daughter and the boys , then back to Main Street to meet up with friends for a drink then meal. We decided to eat at the Avolis yard , after reading good reports we thought we’d give it a try, sorry to say a tad disappointed. The food was ok and reasonably priced, but the service was not good, we had complimentary soup and bread? , but after 20 minutes still no drinks order taken, we then had main course arrive before starter dishes had been cleared. And bill arrived half an hour after requesting it. In fairness it is a new venture so hopefully teething problems.
The majority of our party fly home today, we’ve really enjoyed their company, many have vowed to return, that said now looking forward to some us time .
Forecast for thunder storm today, but have awoke to bright sunshine, fingers crossed it stays that way, particularly with flight departure of our friends.

Our grandson Rhys eighth birthday today, absolutely superb day, started with breakfast at sea u, fabulous omelette, then fast boat to Koukanaries, sea very choppy so got soaked by spray, but what a great way to travel water sports the order of the day, first off pedalo with slide, most fantastic thing my youngest grandson who is autistic and rarely interacts joined in and loved the slide, very happy grandad 😎, this was then followed by kayak, shortly after by paddle board, you cannot buy enjoyment Rhys had.
This evening we had a birthday tea at pizza restaurant on the new port, spoilt by staff, and although not my choice of dining excellent fare, we had a fabulous cake made from bakery on papadiamanti street, only 16€ , waiters made a great fuss of presenting cake singing along with family. Next bit is special to myself, we had half of cake left after our party had eaten, we suggested that this be taken home and eaten later, but birthday boy noticing there where other children dining asked could we slice cake up, he then personally distributed it to each child, I’m biased, but also very proud and humble that he’s my grandson.
This evening we had a bit of a wander, starting at our meeting point Main Street, then to Benbows and totem, wandered to the old port having a couple in ginfish, and finished off with a nightcap in main street. Simple things like seeing family and friends enjoying themselves sends me to bed a happy bunny.
