UPDATE:
This might, just maybe, just possibly, still be happening.
Only, if it does, it'll be the last week in September (Friday 27th September to Friday 4th October).
Any ideas what would still be open in Koukounaries? Under the Pine Tree? Augustera? Big Bad Wolf?
Weather?
Anything else?
Cheers.

I've messaged a few places on Facebook/FB Messenger, and here's where we are so far:
Olive Thea - Will be open Augustera - Will be open (the 4th is their last night) Mythos Bar - Will be open "We are open all year!" Big Bad Wolf - Will be open Under the Pine Tree - Will be open "We're always the first to open and the last to close!" Paradise Achladies - Will be open.
Asprolithos (town) - No reply yet, but I suspect town-based businesses will stay open at least as long, if not longer than those in the sticks.
It's looking good. Four of my top 5 tavernas will be open, and the 5th I would imagine will probably be open too. Plus my favourite bars.
I really hope this happens.

I hope it does, too, Yorkshiremouth. I'm pleased we may not be the only ones there .... we'll be in Koukounaries until Sunday 6 October, bravely hanging on!! (I'm really looking forwards to the last night at the Agustera ) We booked The Lakes hotel on a pretty cheap package with LoveHolidays, flying from Manchester on 22 Sept. For the first week, our son & daughter in law will be with us - their first time in Skiathos - so we're really hoping the weather plays along. For the past 3 years we've been during the first half of September and the weather has been beautiful. Last year, there was a violent storm which caused a lot of damage just after we left, but in 2017 there was a heatwave, so I guess we just need to be prepared for all eventualities!! Hoping we get to meet - are you planning to stay at Skiathos Palace again?

Katet, I said very soon, is this soon enough?
Yup, the Palace.
An absolute bargain at £523 for the week (27th September to 4th October) including breakfast. I couldn't stay at a BnB in the UK for a week for that with breakfast, before we discuss the flights.
I've known for a while, but couldn't confirm until now.
The weather looks a bit of a lottery, but the climate for September is better than the climate for Crete in April, and if it's as good as that I'll be happy.
I suspect we're going to arrange a half a shandy at Augustera while we're both there.

Someone recently posted on facebook there was a deal with TC flying from Manchester on July 17th - 14 nights in Ag Paraskevi self catering for £393 per person!

The great thing about the deal at the palace is that it’s for one person; there’s no supplement for only going on my own, it’d have been exactly double for two of us.

At £523 for a week out of season, I’d say you’ve paid for fourple room single occupancy!😳

problem being flight prices obscene for rest of season, if you’ve not got the flexibility to sit and wait till a good deal comes along you’re going to find it difficult There will be great last minute deals, but if your working practices means you have to book in advance you’re somewhat determined by what’s available, that being said search hard enough always a bargain looming, good luck

balddave is right. I had this dilemma organising my multi island trip this year. I would be arriving by ferry and wanted 1 week in Skiathos so I knew exactly the date I had to fly back and there is only 1 flight to EMA per week. So I could either buy my one way ticket as soon as the rest of the holiday was in place or wait until a later date when there might be a cheaper deal going but risk not getting a seat on that plane at all and then having to organise some emergency backup to another UK airport (which I'd rsather not after 2 weeks away). In the end I opted to book early and get a guaranteed seat. Result - £298 ONE WAY !

I think it's a steal.
I've checked TUI & TC, and it's pretty much the lowest price on the island, and many of the others are self-catering. How much is a 'big breakfast' in a taverna? Ten euros? That's £63 for the week, meaning I'm paying £460 for flights and a room in a 4 star hotel for the week. That's a bargain.
Cheapest I can find on the island is £390, that's dual occupancy (which I wouldn't get anyway), no breakfast, very basic self-catering apartment. £10 a night upgrade to the Palace is an absolute no-brainer for me.
By the way, I did edit my search at the Palace, and two in a room was exactly double the price (so the same amount each). No single occupier fee.
'Out of season'? Hmm, it's definitely not peak season. But I don't think there is an 'out of season' on Skiathos with a package holiday. It's either 'in season' or 'closed'.

I went to Crete in April. Skiathos doesn't open until May - Crete, being further south, is just a bit warmer, so a little ahead on climate.
The weather was fine. Not blistering hot, but I don't mind that. I wouldn't have wanted it cooler, but the same or better would be fine.
I've compared Skiathos climate graphs in September to Crete in April.
Max temperature Skiathos 26 Crete 20
Min temperature Skiathos 14 Crete 12
Rainfall Skiathos 40mm Crete 25mm
Rainy days per month Skiathos 5 Crete 4
Sea temperature Skiathos 23 Crete 16
Hours sunshine Skiathos 9 Crete 8
The only thing 'worse' is the rainfall, but this tends to be short showers.
Of course, nothing is certain with the weather.
