SWMBO is disappearing tomorrow, flying on Ryanair.
Her cabin baggage allowance is 40cm x 25cm x 20cm.
She has a bag which is 39cm x 28cm x 15cm, so it's under allowance on width and depth, but slightly over on height.
However, it's a soft leather bag, which she won't be filling, and it will be under 25cm tall if the top isn't jam packed and folds down a little.
Will this be okay?

Ryanair seem to change their cabin baggage allowance weekly, suggest you log into their site and print off info provided and take it with you to the airport

Canin baggage allowance changed last November. Only priority customers can take on a carry on cabin case now which are the dimensions you quote above so I’m assuming she has booked priority. The bag will fit in the sizer as it’s under in width etc and as long as top folds down, she’ll be fine.

I believe you're mistaken.
There are two sizes of cabin luggage, and the one I quoted above is the smaller of the two. Priority is the larger.

In the end she went for a smaller bag, so it won't have been an issue.
I will ask her about her experiences, though.
At the moment she's watching the women's footie on the beach.

Sorry, I misread your dimensions - small bag (non-priority) are the dimensions you quote and priority allows you the same plus a cabin case which measures 55 x 40 x 20cm (10kg). You’d think I’d never flown with them, but being Irish, I’ve had the pleasure numerous times 😄. Last time I flew with them about 3 weeks ago, priority wasn’t available at my time of booking (late booking and priority quota fulfilled) so I had to book in a bag - I was most annoyed at the airport when people got their second and in some cases 3rd bag taken off them at the gate and put in the hold free of charge. I suppose it depends on who you get at the desk and they could equally have run the risk of being charged extortionate rates!

When SWMBO returns I'll ask her what happened at the airport, and feed back.
After I've made her a cup of tea.

You know your place, YM - lol!
I'm just back from a ladies trip, flying Ryanair. We were Priority, but as long as bags fit into the measure thing, they don't weigh them, or even look at them ...although this wouldn't have been an issue as she took a smaller bag. I was stressing about the weight of my cabin bag, as it was dead on 10kg at home, but they always put weight on in transit, somehow! All was ok though.

Did you get the impression that a soft bag, technically a tad larger than the measure, but smaller with the top folded over, would be allowed?

It’ll be no problem - a soft bag can be squashed easily into those sizers and that’s totally allowed, it’s the hard cases that catch people out - they can be as light as a feather and next to nothing in them but if they’re 1cm over - bad luck! I am away in Ireland atm using Flybe and they have changed their sizing again, not the same as other airlines, a few were caught out at the gate on Thursday evening flying from Birmingham, £50 at the gate 😭
Plus, a first for me on flights, I was sat next to a beautiful black Labrador, a helping guide for a lady - what a gorgeous dog, made the bumpy flight go quicker 😄
