I think that’s because the bailout will involve an investor buying part of the company, thus diluting the value of existing shares. It’s like owning a £200,000 house and you get in trouble. Someone offers to bail you out in exchange for half the house - your share of the house is now only worth £100,000. Or something.

That is my understanding as well. The Chinese, who already owned a lot of shares, have increased their ownership. Mind you £750 million doesn't sound that much, in the greater scheme of things.

Doh! If they buy half the house off you for 100k and you still have the other half, you've still got half a house and 100k? PLEASE don't anybody educate me on this, I prefer to remain stupid thanks!

Having spent some time reading various reports/forecasts relating to Thomas Cook future, it appears they have liquidity to cover 2019/20 winter season, but trading after these dates is dependent on a £750 million from the Chinese banking group. They are however still insistent that all bookings already made are safe. The closure of high street branches will make a substantial saving, and future bookings will rely on the internet or 3rd party agencies. Let’s hope they manage to overcome present difficulties, flight operators to Skiathos are limited, and none of the budget airlines seem prepared to pick up the mantle.

As I've mentioned before, TC are the only company that have flown from EMA to Skiathos since I've been going there. Even that has cut from 2 flights on Friday to 1 so only one per week, you would think they could keep that up but I've heard rumours it might go. I live 30 minutes by bus from the airport so its in the environment's interest as well as my own to keep my travelling down just to get on a plane. I think the shortness of the season (and possibly the refuelling situation for those running airbuses) has made the budget airlines wary of taking the route on. Mind you if it was Ryanair they would advertise it as 'Skiathos Metro',you'd fly to Kavala and then do bus & ferry to Skiathos but they would leave that bit in the small print :-)

😡Have you got anything resolved Kate? Sort of, Tre .... but most unsatisfactory. We’ve agreed with Love Hols to cut our holiday to 12 days instead if 14 and they’ve refunded us two days worth. I’ve put a formal complaint in to TC, but heard nothing as yet. At first, I thought they had decided to cancel the flight on 6th October due to empty seats, making Friday 4th the last flight back. However, I now suspect that they had just overbooked it & we got bumped. Love Holidays has been very helpful and apologetic, whereas TC just sent us one terse email telling us our flight was changed and saying ‘thank you for your understanding’!!! Will never use them again

In Thomas Cook present predicament they really don’t help themselves, I can only assume Kate that you’ve had to alter car parking or taxi to suit, such a hassle with no compensation. Just think if it was your only holiday of the year, I would certainly press for an explanation. Unfortunately Thomson’s itinerary to Skiathos is limited otherwise I’m sure more would switch, only wish likes of jet 2 would add Skiathos to their list of destinations.
