Looks like it’s going to be quiet until late August 😳 Need to keep this forum alive. What’s been your highlight for 2019? Or, what’s your must do/ recommended? For us this year (apart from experiencing a worrying time in Volos😣) The place that stands out is the lovely pool area adjacent to Rada, bus stop 8. But shh🤫 we don’t need to spread the word 😀 Rada, love it. Actually just taken delivery of a canvas from a photo taken on our day at Rada, love it 😊 Evening meal ; Restaurant/Taverna would have to be La Cantinella. Those mussels 😋

My highlight so far has been the late news that I’m going!
But I’ll update once I’m there. :-)

My highlight was being able to celebrate my 60th in my favourite place, we introduced 16 new people to the island, they enjoyed it to a man, so much bookings have already been made for next year. It was also special to take our daughter and her boys back to Skiathos for the 1st time since she worked there in 2003, she has fallen in love with the place all over again. It would be remiss of me not to mention meeting the lovely Kate .

Highlight so far for me has reading all your reports, would be nice if there were more regular contributors but I can see the appeal of fb with it's easy set up and instant results wrt attachments. It's all well and good having new members join but if they then go on to make 3 posts in their first month and then disappear it's not really getting momentum up.

Do most new starters sign in to the ‘when are you going’ section?
Maybe a mod could give them a nudge just before they go to keep us updated?

I’m ‘blaming’ all the 2019 contributors and their fabulous reporting for ‘making’ me book a holiday today 😄
Thank You!!
And I hope to report back on shenanigans once I get there!

People who post in the When are you going thread get added to the list - which I am convinced (or at least hope) does not reflect the actual numbers of our members who go.
Anyway, to bore you with my highlight - started when they closed the door, continued through six Baileys and a ham and cheese toastie thing, next the real punch of hot air when they opened the door, the walk to Troulos beach every morning, which I could have done blindfold. Sorry, it was all highlight. I loved every minute.
Well, alright, an extra one was when I saw the view from the webcam on the big computer screen in the nice man’s office.
Oh, and I’ll get another highlight in 51 days time. Sorry. Well, not really sorry!

Aw, Dave - what a lovely thing to say! It was definitely a highlight for me in meeting you, Sue and your entourage, too.
There were lots of highlights during our longer visit ..... trying some new restaurants, returning to old favourites, taking the water taxis to different beaches, having time to explore the backstreets in town, meeting up with old friends, making some new ones and just enjoying a laid-back, relaxed feeling for a whole month 😎
Oh, and I’m in total agreement with Tre about Rada and the lovely pool ..... but shhhh!!

Looking again, it really is astonishing just how spartan it is.
Not a one of us will be on the island between 12th July and 27th August.

Personally I couldn't cope with the heat in July or August. Far too hot for me. I find the heat drains my energy and spend my time hiding away from the sun! 😃

I’m with you.
Actually SWMBO is with you. Unless it’s 40 or so, if I’m under a parasol, can buy a cold Mythos, and pop in the water a couple of times a day if I overheat, I’m pretty good.
I suspect it’s something to do with the demographic profile of the group. Retired, or near retired, and/or old enough not having to think about what the kids would like (hotel with massive pool, water slides and free ice cream).
But never mind the mid-summer temperature, what about the mid-summer prices! Two years ago, £5k+ for the four of us. This September £500 for me.
When we retire, I’m getting a few mates together and hitting the luxury villas in September. Ch. Margaux for Tesco’s Merlot prices!

Having been in both July and August, we much prefer May,June or September, nothing to do with the heat, we just find the island less hectic and more relaxed.no problems getting into restaurants, and staff have more time to engage, this is to us part of the holiday experience. Coupled with this we find some of our Eastern European brethren who seem to choose July and August can on occasion be loud and rude, especially when it comes to their treatment of local staff, and their inability to queue.

I’ve been to the island May, June, July, August and September; loved them all and to an extent each have their plus points. Loved our May visit years ago as the island came back to life so to speak (as far as tourism goes) & locals busying themselves preparing for a busy season, plus the flowers etc but the sea was too cold for me 😂 Now it seems that the summer is so busy for us work wise and other social events on that end of August, beginning of September seems to work better for us. And the added bonus is that the sea is perfect, so warm. Temp is still quite high and if we get a storm, we think that’s a bonus too. There’s still a real buzz around although our second week can be a little quieter than the August mayhem. We were to visit in February this year for my birthday just to see it all out of season but work got in the way, maybe next year....

I’d actually like to visit Easter time. With Easter being late April next year it could actually happen........ Lots to consider.....
