we always usually go the first two weeks in july, the one time we went in early june i felt i hadnt been away by the end of july and the rest of the office heading off. We were forced to go away in sept to recover. Years ago we went to kefalonia in mid september i spotted a late bargain, and we said everyone is so old! i think late 50's early sixties!. i dont feel old now at that age. our last holiday to skiathos one highlight was finally making the monastry, really enjoying it so peaceful and serene and i love history so seeing the first greek flag was a bonus. The holiday before we had a day out on sail the day, fabulous we will remember that trip until the day we die. there was only 8 of us sailing around skopelos etc stopping for swimming trips snorkelling, he gave us all a go at the wheel , made you feel like a millionaire,i remember lying on deck looking up at the sky ,sails billowing thinking "can life get any better" My husband enjoyed being shown the engines and learning how the oil circulates on a 80 degree tilt etc (its a man thing ). Fabulous food cooked for us and a lovely mix of people all ages backgrounds, and we all got on like we had known each other for years. Coming back into harbour cold gin and tonic in hand about 7pm feeling so happy and content. Another good memory the last afternoon lying in angeliki garden we both said together lets try paragliding, we both hate heights ! i think it was the lunchtime carafe of wine, wow it was amazing neither of us was scared it was totally silent up there amazing view of megali ammos, my husband got the shakes after we got down, he said "did we really do that ". It was worth it to see my sons faces when we got back, "you did what !" Now what can we do when we go 30th August to better it?

Gosh Cariad, that's terrific. "how the oil circulates on a 80 degree tilt" is a complete mystery to me, I suppose you have to go sailing to find out.
I did paragliding myself once and I too feel giddy looking out of upstairs windows! But it was great and I even guided the thing back down to land on the beach instead of in the sea like everybody else.
"Now what can we do when we go 30th August to better it?" Well, if you pop out to the travel shop and extend it for another two weeks, you can come to my birthday party.

I’d actually like to visit Easter time. With Easter being late April next year it could actually happen........ Lots to consider..... I’d love to go at Easter, too. But the weather? Climate graph here: www.climatestotravel.com/climate/greece/skiathosThere’s an absolutely massive bump in temperature between April and June - the former is closer to November in temperature. As a Skiathos-loving teachers it’s a real headache. Many 1 week breaks don’t coincide with weekends, for example this September I’m flying in a Friday morning. That means you can only really go if you have at least two weeks off. So if we can’t go during the one week half terms, and it’s too at Christmas and Easter, that only leaves the summer break, when it costs a fortune. Now, when I retire...

if i had remembered it was your birthday i would have booked for a week later, of course we may miss the plane! my other half is a hgv mechanic so has an interest in engines etc. we went to caister lifeboat station last summer, and he disapeared and found him with one of the crew inspecting boat engine and towing vehicles.

Snap! It was a long time ago, about 1981 I think. I was invited to join my best mate and his parents on a 2 weeker in Majorca. I think it was still a relatively new thing then and we kept egging each other on to do it but in the end I was the only one who did. I remember the chute and harness had a definite ex-military feel to it. We saw everyone ditch in the sea up to that point which didnt please the guys running it as there was just the one chute and it all had to be dried out before the next person so it was delayig their profit making. I had to yank on a specific line at the right time to open the vent and bring me down and by luck I got it just right and brought it back to dry sand. I think I might have got a round of applause and I think there may even be a super-8 movie of it somewhere. Maybe I should do it again in 2021 as a 40th anniversary thing, not going back to Majorca to do it though!

Can’t remember where I did it. If it was Majorca, it would have been over 50 years ago. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think it WAS Majorca

we were wound in to the back of the boat, and took off from there in the middle of the bay. the place in megali ammos very safe, strong harness life jackets, go for it kev. I think ive got more adventurous since i got older, ive also been jet skiing several times in samos, thassos, and hired boat in lefkas and skiathos. They say life begins at 40 in my case quite abit older !

The only time I've come close to drowning was during a day boat hire. Went to Zante in 2003 with my partner at the time. Hired a small boat with modest outboard and trundled off to find some rocky outcrop for her to snorkel around. I'd handled boats on several Broads holidays in my youth so i wasn't a complete novice. So I manouvered the boat close as i dare to an area that might be good for fish spotting and told her to put the anchor down so we wouldnt drift. She did this but neglected to notice there was no rope tied to it! After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing I thought i could just make it out stuck on a rocky ledge but it looked quite a way down. I failed to reach it first 2 attempts but on the third dive and running out of air I just managed to grab it, swivel my legs under and push off from the ledge. She said it seemed like i was down there a long time and then suddenly an arm appeared like Poseidon clutiching this dirty great anchor. I was completely exhausted and after handing the anchor back could only hang on to the side of the boat to get my breath back. At which point a wave swept me toward the back of the boat and my shorts got caught in the propellor. I'd had to leave the engine idling just to keep the boat in position while I did the diving. My shorts got caught up enough to stall the prop so no further damage other than a rip in my shorts and a bit of a graze. Eventually clamboured back on board and tied the rope to the anchor and put it back down and she got a bit of snorkelling done while i recovered. Other than that quite an uneventful outing!

Blimey, Kev, getting your cozzie propelled seems a tad more exciting than me putting my Greek cozzie on back to front this July (it had the label on the front, not the back).

To keep everyone going, I've posted videos in the video section, which are brief slideshows of our holidays on Skiathos in 2015:
skiathosboomerang.freeforums.net/thread/1105/more-laterer
And 2017:
skiathosboomerang.freeforums.net/thread/1102/bit-late
Well, it's kept me occupied.
I'm hoping I can use the tech to be a bit more useful in organising my photos in future, as at the moment they're just all over the shop.
I'm also hoping I can use this on my holiday in September. If I have a day out, or a nice meal, or a day on the beach, I can take a few pics and create a little video.
Then, when I report back here, I can include the video.
It took me an hour or so to learn how to do it initially, but now it's a piece of cake.
Does anyone remember when you had to wait until you'd got back home, then wait a week to get your pictures back through the post...

A week was the quick service cost extra!
Does anybody remember videos without bangy bangy music soundtracks?

Crikey kev that sounds scarey. Nearest i came to a scare was when we took a hot air balloon over the nile during a nile cruise. The pilot had no idea where we were going he said depended on the wind. we landed heavily in a field in middle of nowhere ,after we dragged ourselves out of the basket we were expected to sing and do a thank you dance. Since then several people have been killed on these balloons and they are now banned. i get abit restless on sunbeds after a couple of hours and need to do things

cariad, we also had a scary hot air ballon ride here on the uk. Never again! How we missed power lines I’ll never know. The pilot was seriously worried as he couldn’t land & advised that we’d been up half an hour longer than planned & would have to land whatever or fall out of the sky !! Crashed sideways into a field of rapeseed, everyone shocked, stunned & somewhat uncomfortable. He ran off shouting that he had to get permission to land!!! Over an hour later we still waiting for transport back to base. When we did get back, no glass of the promised champagne, they’d all gone home 😳😱😂 Years ago I could lay on a sunbed all day, maybe an hour or so nowadays

I've managed to dig out a final batch of pics from 2009.
We went before this to the Espiredes, in 2006 or 2007, but I can't currently find any pics from that, so this may well be my final video from the archives.
skiathosboomerang.freeforums.net/thread/1107/morer-laterer
Funny thing, just going through these pics (there are a lot more which I haven't used) has prompted me to think about what I might want to take in the future. I find myself looking through the folders, and thinking "Why did I bother photographing X", or "I wish I had a few snaps of Y".
Which in turn will hopefully have a positive affect on the pictures I take in September.
Anyway, sorry for boring everyone with the ubiquitous boring holiday pics.
As you were.
