We’ve stayed in a variety of places on the island from 5 star hotels (Aegean Suites) to 2 star self catering. We have returned quite a few times to the Paradise Hotel in Katsarou as well, where the views are excellent, great restaurant & great holiday. We stayed in Paschalis studios in Agia Paraskevi a few years back and loved it - we hadn’t a sea view, nor the proximity of everything on the doorstep but had a fab time. Sometimes the timing of a holiday, the people you meet from day to day, your own ‘go with the flow’ approach, etc makes for a great time, and not luxurious surroundings. To be honest in the last 20 years I’ve been to Skiathos, if I was pushed to name the worst holiday (and it wasn’t bad!) I probably would say Aegean Suites, just because it was a tad stifled and I don’t recall anyone speaking to us except staff, who are all lovely by the way!

Love this thread - thanks, YM! I've loved everywhere we've stayed - for different reasons they have all been excellent. So, in order of stays (not preference): 1) Hotel Panorama in Koukounaries, bus stop 25, - a beautiful, family-run hotel with around 40 modern rooms, a lovely pool area and a good taverna. The family are so lovely - professional, welcoming and helpful and have become friends over the years. I think we've stayed there about 11 times, but have lost count! The situation is great - Koukounaries is flat, there's a bus stop outside, great eateries & bars (esp Agustera) and an easy walk to many of the best beaches. OK, so Koukounaries beach does get very busy in season, but it is large and the sea and sand are amazing. Our very favourite beach (Ambelakia) has been ruined by the Elivi hotel development but Ag Eleni and the two Mandraki beaches are nearby and they are (up to now) unspoilt. Aghia Eleni has amazing sunsets - wish I could show you a photo, but I'm finished with Photobucket! Am supposed to be back there in July ... we'll see. 2) The Myrtia Summer Village in Koukounaries, bus stop 23, - also fabulous, for different reasons. There is a really large and lovely pool area with an amazing taverna (food & drink) and lovely, funny, welcoming staff. Vlatko is a legend! The studios are set in beautiful gardens and are of varying sizes. They were a bit old-fashioned, but have recently been upgraded & are well-equipped. Myrtia is down a sandy track by the Mandraki hotel and is a lovely walk in daylight ... however (major downside for me) - in the dark and after a couple of cocktails it's a twisted ankle or skinned knee!! Unless you have a non-drinking person who will drive you about! We've stayed there twice, though always visit to say hello and have a meal or a pool day when on the island. I was supposed to be returning next week, with some long-time friends, but Covid-19 has put the brakes on 3) Aidonofolies Studios in Koukounaries, bus stop 23 & behind the Myrtia - lovely, family-owned & run studios. These are more basic in provision, ie no kettle - one of those really small pans to heat enough water for two small cups of Greek coffee, so take a travel kettle. The studios are typical- one room with a kitchen area, a bathroom and balcony. Beds are the small, wooden Greek style singles. Spotlessly clean and the family who run it (George & Dora) are so lovely. Dora speaks excellent English - George has a big smile! We've stayed there twice. The second time we had a car & this made it easier. 4) Atlas Hotel, Papadiamanti St - well, Dave is spot on. Not much more to add, except we stayed in rooms overlooking the garden which were very peaceful and pleasant - though slightly smaller than the ones on the front. It's a very modern, clean hotel. The staff are great and the location amazing. No views, but as soon as you step outside you are in the thick of it. The hotel has an agreement with Portabello restaurant opposite for a discount on breakfasts, but we preferred the Foodie Cafe just down the street ... great staff and delicious food. We've stayed at the Atlas twice. Another benefit (we found) is that if you want to stay out late (perhaps at the Blind Dog or Totem?) it's not very far to get back to your bed! 5) Meltemi Hotel, on the new port - stayed here a couple of years ago, just for a week, and really loved the location and the modern style of the hotel. The views are spectacular - plane spotting from the balcony. It's almost opposite the bus terminus, so you definitely don't need a car (unless you want the northern beaches). A tip is, don't book the breakfast option. A not-amazing, cold buffet. Go to Fresh next door but one - brilliant. I've booked at the Meltemi for ten days in September - also two rooms for the boys & wives - for a special family trip. Really hoping we can travel by then 🤞

Just a few additional ones... Some of our go back over 15 yrs so may have changed since we stayed.
Elizabeth - AP. 20 yrs ago. Couldn't fault the acom, it was quiet on that back Rd back then too. I know they built more villas along there since and Elizabeth have a pool now so might be busier. It's abt a 25 min walk to the beach from there, but it's nice and flat.
Prekas - AP. Near the Elizabeth. Can't remember much abt the acom, I was pregnant at the time, but don't recall there being anything to moan about.
Ostria - AP. Stayed there when it was new and didn't have the pool yet. Lovely acom, nice bar area that had Greek night's. Last one we went to was 2008. Nice friendly family. Set back off main Rd and not far to the beach.
Hotel magic - AP stayed here a few times over the years. Good friends with the owners (they also have platanias restaurant down the hill) they have updated this massively in the last 10 yrs. Pool and jacuzzi added which is nice. But the rooms went up a star, so you now have the added luxury aspect. But also pay the luxury price. For us this was too much considering all we do is sleep in 5he rooms. Breakfast is Inc here and there is a nice selection. If you can afford a 5 star place I highly recommend, its amazing, just not cost effective for 10 of us. There is a restaurant attached which is nice, just not as nice as platanias, kohyli or Jimmy's.
Apts at the iguana bar - AP. Never again. Cheap and not cheerful. Couldn't swing a cat in our room. Bathroom was dark n dingy, the shower was half over the loo cos it was so small and so much black mould around the back of the loo, constant damp musty smell. Noise from the bar travels back to the rooms. Wouldn't even go back if it was free.
Anna Maria - AP. Our most recent villa, up the hill behind Jimmy's taverna so you need good legs or a car. But the villa makes up for the hill walk. It catches the breeze that all those down below miss, great at night as its not too stifling. Views are amazing. Maria and her husband are lovely and friendly, can't do enough for you. Very clean and spacious. No pool. Standard kettle, 2 rings and toaster for making breakfasts. Change sheets more often than anywhere else we've stayed. Super clean.
Yiannis - Troulos. Set back off the main Rd, not a bad walk to the beach. Villas are nice enough, there is a pool but it always seemed to be full of kids. Quite a decent grassy area between villas and pool for kids to play. Bar attached which also does snacks. Also nice enough. Just comparing it to all our AP ones is where it fell down. Think we've been spoiled by AP.

I’ve posted before about Starlight and Sunset Villas.
There are quite a few posts up at FB saying there are excellent deals on these, and other villas.
