Plane out and back from Gatwick 95% full of passengers and all behaving pretty much as expected mask's on, sitting down...etc no dramas and no hardship
Arrive at Skiathos nobody stopped and tested and they were just going through the motions control just glancing at our paper work and towards the end not even that and just started waving us through.
Masks on the bus to resort...…And that's pretty much where all the scaremongering ended for 2 weeks which was great for the soul and peace of mind!! Bliss.
Quieter? Yes but not massively plenty of Greeks but definitely no Italians we were told that the Greek government had been issuing discount holiday accommodation vouchers to mainland Greeks to use on the Islands who wouldn't normally come which was good for accommodation owners but not so for tavernas, boat trips...Etc as the Greeks stay on the beaches until sunset and then mostly just go back to their accommodation and cook food there. In the tavernas it was all hands to the pumps with families as there were no mainland workers there. Driving around was quieter which was great as most days you only see a handful of tourist quads, mopeds. Supermarkets were stocked ok but not massively over stocked and a lot of the stuff you see outside them lilos, hats, towels …Etc all seemed very old stock from last year. Troulos was quiet but because a lot of the places were closed up it didn't look any different if that makes sense? It was just the lack of people wandering around quads, mopeds...Etc made it more noticeable than the actual places closed. I thought that some places would have dropped their prices to get customers in but it didn't look like.
The Greeks seem to be taking it on the chin a lot better than we are and just excepting it.
Worst bit was coming home and being bombarded with doom, gloom and scaremongering all over again.
Was it worth it?...100% Yes
