It’s been a strange day, booked out of our room at 10:30 to head to fresh bar for breakfast, encountered a 10-15 shower of rain, as normal shops had ponchos and umbrellas front and centre, it is now 6:20 in the evening and this is so far the only rain we’ve had so far today. Although it’s been cloudy , we’ve had brief spells of warm sunshine. If anyone has ever had a fresh breakfast you’ll know it’s huge, toast and jam, croissant, full English ( with chips) orange juice and tea or coffee with free refills, far to much for us, yoghurt and fruit for me, omelet for the wife, fresh was full of folk from Skopelos awaiting airport transfer and some of the sailing fraternity awaiting to board their vessels. Said our goodbyes to Mitsa and the staff, they’re in for a shock when we turn up in the morning 🤣. Headed back up papadiamanti for yet more present shopping, town busy with both those killing time before the airport, and others from other areas who had ventured in to escape forecast bad weather. Called in to Main Street bar for a coffee, whilst sitting there my wife received a phone call from one of her friends in the uk advising us our flight has been cancelled. Having received no email from jet 2 we checked out their website, this confirmed the information. Still nothing official from jet2, called into the Atlas to try and extend our stay, unfortunately they’re fully booked tonight, we now panicked slightly, but chap in main street pointed us towards Kostas hotel just off papadiamanti Street, room available at only €30 a night. Room smaller and without tea/coffee making facilities etc that the Atlas provides, but clean and comfortable room with balcony overlooking a small courtyard garden. About 5:15 this evening we received an apologetic email from jet2 with an offer of free half board accommodation for tonight, but we would have to go to the airport and would then be taken by Coach to aforementioned accommodation, this surprised us as we are flight only. However we’d rather stay in town so declined the offer. The flight has been rescheduled for the same time tomorrow, hopefully things due to brighten up by midday. I feel sorry for those who where due out today and have lost a day of their holiday , good thing being the forecast for next week is good for them. Just about to prepare to get ready for our bonus night, decision yet to be made on our dining venue.

Hope you’re handling this okay.
Yourself aside, it’s good news for the island that what’s left open us full this late in the season.

Those on our flight who chose to take up jet2s offer of half board accommodation where put up in the Pounta hotel, glad we sorted our own room out, although nothing at all wrong with jet2 choice ,it is remote from town etc. The rain hit last night at 8:30, torrential downpour, this was our takeoff time, so probably best they cancelled. Last night we ate at 1901, another excellent meal, love their starter of gratin potatoes with spinach and bacon. A quick nightcap in the seagull bar then back to the hotel just before the rain started again, This morning is very cloudy and windy, the sea is very choppy. Just checked out of our room so now killing time as our rescheduled flight is due to depart at 9pm tonight, just hope it brightens up a bit and their are no more downpours.

Weather picked up this afternoon, normality returned, boats back out on the water and awnings removed from taverna external areas. Met with a few people at old port for farewell drinks then lunch at kabourolias, a Greek wedding party walked down the port side , greeted by applause from all the tavernas, locals and tourists alike, pleased the sun was out following a miserable morning. Collected bags from the hotel and took a taxi to the airport, 4 flights leaving within 45 minutes of each other hence check in and security a bit chaotic and busy. Flight left on time and we arrived back in Manchester 20 minutes ahead of schedule, all be it 24 hours late. All in all , yet another fabulous holiday in Skiathos, so drivel over for this year.

Thank you Dave - have really enjoyed your holiday! What a shame that we just miss each other - I’m flying at 2pm today. One of our party will be staying at the Atlas from Weds, so I’ll pop in and say hello. Hope we get stuck for an extra day, too!

Thanks for all your enjoyable posts Dave. Just imagine though; if you were travelling back to Scotland from Greece you would be beginning two weeks quarantine! Still, a small price for living in God's own country, I suppose! 😉 Bob

Just a Dave’s drivel swan song, I must say after 8 days in Skiathos we feel like we’ve arrived home to a car crash. Everything in Skiathos very observant of covid rules, felt so much safer there than in uk. We have visited our local this afternoon, they are brilliant regarding covid, everything set up re distancing, sanitizer etc, however we went to walk into town (Chester ) only 10 minutes from home to do some shopping, half way there we turned around, it appears people thinking lockdown coming again, instead of thinking we can prevent this some are thinking last chance saloon, you just can’t teach stupid.

Just a personal post, I sincerely hope you all stay safe over the next few difficult months, I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting many of you, however it will be a privilege to make any of our forums acquaintance if fortunate enough to be in Skiathos at the same time. Let’s all be careful and hopefully enjoy some time in Skiathos next year.
