Happy Christmas to everyone on the forum. Lets hope next year will get better. (Obviously Dennis has been very good , and now Bristol is in a lower tier)

Dennis hasn’t been good - he isn’t in Bristol, so was already in tier 2. But most of children and grandchildren were, and they’re now down to 2. However, we decided some weeks ago that we would cancel Christmas - first time in history they haven’t come for Christmas dinner. We beat Boris to that decision by weeks and we have also decided we won’t go to Durham either.

Happy Christmas to everybody from us too. I’ve had my text putting me on watch for vaccination - arriving at surgery in January, don’t call us, we’ll call you.

Excellent news about your pending vaccination Dennis, sincerely hope everyone is ok and dealing with all the turmoil surrounding covid. Best wishes to everyone for what is to be a very different Christmas, we’ve missed out out on our normal Christmas present run to Seville for our 3 grandchildren there, hopefully having Christmas lunch at our daughters but she’s across the border in Wales, struggling because can’t visit mum on Christmas Day, As Dennis so rightly says there is a light at the end of the tunnel, if we all remain sensible and follow the guidelines then maybe Skiathos next year can become reality rather than a pipe dream. Stay safe everyone

Oh, I forgot to add - for the last 20 years, we have taken the family to CenterParcs at Longleat, an hour away, for their Christmas present. Mid January when Christmas prices have fallen back. Booked for weekend of 15th January. Every year we book it whilst we are there for next year - we ask if they still want it next year and they all give a resounding yes. Twelve of us, three forest lodges next to each other.
So yesterday I spent an hour on the phone listening to half a dozen bars of music on a loop, then a few minutes to cancel and rebook for March 19th. Fingers crossed.

Merry Christmas everyone.
As part of my new job I’ve been ringing round over 80s to get them in for vaccinations starting on Wednesday.
I’m hoping enough of us are done to allow the borders to reopen at spring bank.

I'm wondering if vacinations shouldnt be done with the young first, they are the ones who show no symptons and go out more so are more likely to spread it. Most old people i know are being very careful. What does everyone else think. I am dreading what i will find when i go into work tomorrow, admissions have gone crazy.

Youngsters don’t just show no symptoms, they also get little effect. On the other hand, elderlies like me will die of it - that’s the reasoning behind the priorities list. Elderlies like me who survive it will get long COVID - 36 weeks after getting it, our Val is still not fit to go back to “proper” work, namely hospital wards 12 hour shifts. They’re all younger than me, so I won’t feel embarrassed to say I couldn’t do even half a shift of nursing care - it’s not just physical, but mental how they support patients and families. I’d break.

true Dennis and as for wearing masks 12 hours, my longest day is 6 hours and it drives me crazy, lots of full time staff getting sore faces and rashes.

I don’t know how they can wear PPE for 12 hours. I wear one in all the right places and it’s not easy - I actually had my hair cut this afternoon, whilst wearing a mask!
what do they do if they get a little nose dribble? I stick my finger up inside the mask! Apart from a poking finger being a less than perfect dribble solution, during the grotty procedure I’m surely breathing in and out pure infectiousness through the gap I’ve created!

Have a safe and happy as possible Xmas everyone and hopefully we will all be back on the island in 2021. I still managed a Greek holiday this year so not a total washout for me (or mum).

Happy Christmas to one and all, however you are spending it. I am sure it will be one of reflection this year.

In spite of cancelling Christmas dinner for family, some tradition will survive. One of the most important of these is I really like Sherry trifle. Which this year will be down to me to eat it all. Hard work, but somebody has to do it (Vera only knows how to do one size!!!).

Merry Christmas to everyone & I love a trifle too Dennis - I made one yesterday minus the sherry cos I forgot to add it 🙉. Quiet one for me, stretching it out over the entire day, done a 2 hour walk at lunchtime now halfway through my eating quota for the day. No Ireland, no pub, no visitors, seems very strange indeed but others have had a much harder year than me so making the most of it. 🎄🎅
Here’s to 2021 & lots of Skiathos visits and blogs to look forward to 🍸🎉

Yes, Victoria, I stretch my trifle out over the day too.
We’ve just been on FaceTime with our missing guests (the ones who usually come for Christmas dinner. Had to stop because they’re all getting outside some funny blue vodka and can’t hold the iPhone steady!
