More on that story - this time but behind a paywall. www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/18/vaccine-passport-plan-could-help-britons-holiday-in-greeceThere’ll always be lots of newspaper speculation, but this is the Greek minister for tourism saying he’s discussion with the U.K. government, so a bit more than that. We’re due to go on 26th May. My bet is this won’t be in place before June...okay, Spring Bank is 31st May, so maybe the Friday before that, which is 28th. We’re due to go in 26th, so possibly a shortened holiday? Who knows.

so announced foreign travel will be reviewed 17th may, it will take a while for travel companies to set everything up again flights, reps, transport in the resort so i would say beginning of june at the earliest. However if we still have to quarantine or isolating it rules holidays out totally for us, we need to organise pet care too. just applied for new passport for husband today in the hope of a holiday sometime this year. Its so good can do it online now, amazed had a photo in digital booth, put the code from the photo on the form and your photo pops up on the form, brilliant.

Hmm. I didn’t catch it all clearly, but I think I saw 21st June in association with travel abroad. That’s the Monday before our Friday flight.
I like what you said about passport renewal as both ours need doing.

We are due to fly home May 17th ,so obviously we now won’t be going . Just waiting for airlines to contact us then we’ll decide what to do. Need to see how travel review on April 12th goes , we shall probably rebook for either June or September

To be clear, they’re reviewing and announcing the results of the review on April 12th, with May 17th being the earliest they’ll open.
That gives them over a month to get everything in place.

I've still got half a book of first class Christmas stamps and the expressed opinion seems to be that Greece can't change the EU and WHO rules to suit themselves (and UK tourists' ambitions). I'm just going up to the paper shop so I'll have a look at what the Sun and Sport have to say about it (I nearly didn't click the link because of Times subscription stuff - I was just going to ask you to kindly stop buying The Times and switch to The Sun).

There is no point in trying to second guess, or paying much attention to the many media folk who suddenly appear to be experts in the travel industry.
The Greek authorities will let us know in due course when they are willing to accept visitors, and indeed what will be the requirements with regards to test confirmation or vaccination passports. Just a case of being patient, I’m sure it will become clearer over the next few weeks.

I suppose this thread, and it’s title, is by definition an invitation to ‘guessing’, to one degree or another.
Whilst I don’t align with The Times politically, they only run this sort of story if their correspondents have good information (an off the record briefing, for example).
But yes, we’ll find out for sure in time. As we’re due to be going on 26th May, then the current timeline (12th April announcement for a 17th May start) is pretty much as late as it can get for us. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen, but we live in hope. Getting the country back on its feet, and the nation’s health are more important than our holiday.
Two big questions, other than the dates. Firstly, I’ve seen a few articles on Greece’s idea for Covid passports. They almost all mention both jabs. That’s clearly a non-starter. Apart from a very small handful, no one gets their second jab until 12 weeks. For the very first vaccinated (who are all in care homes, and going nowhere), that gives them a second jab on 9th March at the earliest. The first cohort (all over 70s, health care workers and Hugh risk groups, were done by 15th February, so will get their second jab by 10th May. A week for that to kick in is, coincidentally, the earliest opening date. If Greece opens on 17th May, but only over 70s are allowed in, it won’t be worth the hotels opening. All adults done by the end of July, means all having a second vaccine by the end of October.
Secondly, what about kids? Will they be expected to carry a vaccine passport? None of them are being done until the autumn at the earliest.
Looking at these two together - no kids (so no parents of kids either), and everyone not vaccinated twice before the autumn, that simply can’t work; certainly not if it’s as simple as ‘no vaccine, no holiday’.

I merely locked onto 21st June, end of all legal restrictions in time for our first booking on 25th. And if all legal restrictions are lifted then, that means everyone can go where they please. IF. So the only limitation would be from Greece. I repeat - IF.
I stand by my original - if Boris says we can go and if Greece says we can go, we will go. It’s their decision, not ours.

i get my second vaccine 19th march , husband wont be getting his first until april /may he wasnt even able to get one when he did a stint at a covid testing centre. i could be on the beach by myself. have you seen the posts on TA , give me strength, i nearly posted to some of stupid comments , no one knows wait and see. i can't be bothered anymore working in nhs im bombarded all day with directives and changes , which 10 minutes after we implement are changed again, by managers and execs who are paid a small fortune and incapable of making a decision. (sorry had a bad day ) i really need a holiday after not getting one last year, i will settle for anywhere even skeggy , well perhaps not skeggy. Theres always the out laws in Wales, they have a completely different set of rules.

Well Cariad, if you have to leave him at home, can you delay your anniversary party and invite us? Maybe a party round the pool at Villa Maria? As for "even skeggy , well perhaps not skeggy", I've never been there, but surely it's not as bad as "even"?
