This morning, to huge sigh of relief, first TUI flight to Skiathos from Bristol. I can now go ahead booking airport parking and thinking about tests, but I'll leave the tests longer in case they change the rules to let us off!

Although we have visited Skiathos for the past 20 years+ , this year’s visit seems important, I don’t know if anyone else can relate to the feeling of relief, gratitude, or just plain jubilation at surviving this horrible pandemic and returning to some form of normality.

Have you thought of taxi to the airport instead of parking we have done this last 3 times it’s cheaper than parking drops you near the entrance /exit no stress or lugging cases. Feels like start of holiday. Great when u arrive back tired, and still in holiday head. We are about 30 mins from east mids, had a taxi to Birmingham too and still cheaper.

We’ve had a conference regarding taxi. In theory we have four options. 1. Airport parking. Convenient because they run a bus from car park to terminal. Costs about £60-£70. 2. Taxi. Haven’t tried that for ages, used to be about £25 each way, but that was 20 years ago. 3. Airport bus, runs from Bath to BRS via Keynsham, but it’s much too far to get to and from High Street, we couldn’t walk that far even without baggage. 4. Vera’s son in law offered. We don’t want to do that to him at 3am!
For years we have woken up long before the alarm and just set off when we’re ready, so following anybody else’s timetable doesn’t work for us. The only timetable we have is TUI flight departs 6:35am.
So we’re sticking with the airport parking.

Goodness me, how things change. The pricing I had was from a few weeks ago when I was idly enquiring - couldn't book because I didn't know if TUI would actually be going from Bristol (they've only just started yesterday, months behind schedule). Since which, prices have rocketed - I've risen from my bed and gone to book parking at airport and it's now £98. Ah well, we didn't spend a penny on holidays last year and we are determined to spend some this year in Skiathos!

Dennis, does Horace Batchelor still live in Keynsham, spelt K e y n….s h a m….? That advert for his Infradraw method for football pools was last broadcast on Radio Luxembourg in the 1950s (I think, if not the 1940s! Your memory of it was used in a radio advert in the 70s when I moved here, saying that if you can remember the advert this long, it demonstrates the power of radio advertising, so "buy an advert on our radio now!" It also demonstrates that you are a pensioner ). Horace batchelor no longer lives anywhere. His very big house on the A4 on the outskirts of Keynsham became a guest house, then an old people's home and is now posh appartments complete with gated entrance.

Yes my memories are from the fifties, listening under the blankets to Radio Luxembourg on a small crystal radio bought from the Saturday adverts in the Daily Express. The radio only had an earpiece and had to be clipped onto the brass curtain rail to use as an aerial. I think the radio cost £1,18/6, if I remember correctly.

I'm not a frequent poster but often read the forum posts & I live in Bristol. Dennis have you considered Broadfield Farm just past the airport? Broadfield Park & Fly is their website. We always go with them. They are much cheaper & you don't have to wait for an overcrowded bus in silver zone. It is a bit of a fast, nervy ride via the nearby lane in the van but the chap is very pleasant & helpful. When you contact them they tell you how much the price is (paid in cash either going or on return). They keep your keys to move it for when you return but the car never goes off site. 15 days is £68.

We listened to our crystal radio in the coal ‘ole - mum and dad disapproved of Radio Luxembourg, musical disgrace plus adverts. In the living room we listened to the Light Programme and BBC - we were educated and clever (but poor). Our crystal set was made by dad, who was a signaller in the war.

Thanks dippylil, I’ve never considered nearby parking though - probably because we didn’t approve of Radio Luxembourg and were well educated but poor. Too late now, I’ve already paid Silver Zone 50% dearer. Grrr?
