Great to hear you got home safe and sound, I totally agree with you about some numpties attitude, total lack of respect for others. As I’ve previously posted jet2 policy of leaking people disembark row by row works, no panic or queue jumping, probably far safer than the normal crush I suspect it’s actually quicker, too. Dennis, thanks for the update. Looks like you weren't just thrown to the wolves (and queue-jumpers) in the end, which must have been a relief. When you were on the lifty thing did you hum the theme from Thunderbirds?

A question for Dennis (and Kate, who left on the 20th).
Is the island a bit quieter this September? Is it getting quieter faster this year?
That's a feeling I'm getting from reading a number of online comments.
Usually, as far as I can tell, this island is busy in August, dips maybe very slightly right at the end of that month, then picks up for 3 weeks or so as a number of grown ups who don't want be surrounded by kids turn up.
Then there's a very gradual slow down towards the end of the season.
This year I'm picking up that things went quiet from mid-September, quite quickly.
However, I'm not there, and my impression is based on a statistically small number of comments.
How did it feel to you compared to previous years?

My feeling (bearing in mind we were limited locomotion-wise) was that it was as busy as usual until our second week. For example, we always eat early so never book, and in the first week (10-17 September) we did that, going to Jasteri at 6pm and got our 'usual' table. We heard later from another couple who followed us in, also without a booking, they were turned away for not having booked! We didn't, of course, use the buses after the first three days because Vera couldn't manage them, but my reading of FB indicated they were just as busy that week as they always are. And every restaurant we visited was busy - reserved signs all over with very few blanks. Personally I would have formed the opposite opinion, namely that the season had extended just a week or so - normally we've gone very first week of September and found places closing as we finish our second week, not so this year, or rather our second week which had similar indications, was a week later.
I was wrong a few years ago.

Well, I thought it was THE END. But it isn't. There's washing and learning how to peg things out, using less than two pegs per garment, using two hands when it needs three.
It takes a long time and hurts your back.

And the next thing is unpegging stuff. Logically, you need to unpeg a thing, drape it over your left arm and keep the peg in your right hand. With only two hands. And not enough hand to hold more then the pegs for about three items.
So I've solved that one. (Getting big headed now). By the way, why does it only rain after you've pegged out, not BEFORE?

No Cariad, it’s a circular table and benches covered by a plastic cover which we’ve put on to protect it now that we’ve taken the cover off the gazebo of which you can see part of the frame. Unless you’re looking at the bottom of the garden where there are five compost bins, otherwise known as Daleks!

I gave up on hanging washing out years ago. Take the wet washed stuff to a laundrette and tumble dry huge amounts in one go whilst I do a bit of shopping. Helps with the ironing too, fewer creases in my experience.

It’s years ago since I gave up hanging out too. This return to it is quite a shock to the system. Got a win today though - Vera said it looks like rain so I picked the last lot in and it started to rain as I collected the pegs. Yesssss!

Dennis, how is Vera after her mishap whilst in Skiathos. Hopefully she has recovered without any long term problems.

Thanks Dave. So after two and a half months the saga is not yet over. It took about four weeks after we got home for surgery to at long last let her in. Looked at the Skiathos X-ray and condemned it and arranged another at our hospital. Which revealed she had broken her Pubic Rami, six to eight weeks recovery forecast. Discarded her Zimmer frame this week and transferred to a stick, which she is using less and less. I still feel the need to hover and grab at her, but it’s getting dangerous to my health now as she doesn’t want help! So we are within sight of the end, hopefully. No hope from Vera - she is determined it will get cured, so it will, or else!

Thinking of you both and hoping things return to “normal”, or even better than that, before too long.
