Just wondering if any of the recent travellers to Skiathos on here had encountered any slightly odd financial goings on? I only had one odd incident where a mystery item appeared on the bill (9 euro) which we hadn't ordered (a bit of Greek can come in handy looking at receipts) and sure enough they apologised and took it off the bill, many people probably wouldnt have looked. Nickos was 'forgetful' about bringing any change from a 20 euro when the bill was 13 but I put that down to him just being busy.
One of the girls who used to be on the FB group for solo travellers did encounter out and out short changing twice and called them on it both times and showed she was correct. Worse case was in Blind Dog where the waitress (admittedly rather overworked this season) gave her change for a 20 when in fact she had given her a 50 and a subsequent going through of the waitresses little bag of money proved what had happened.
These could all be genuine mistakes but I'd be sad if there were sharp practices creeping in, maybe the tips are down this year due to fewer Brits there? as I always think of Skiathos as a very 'honest' island.

Sideways on that, whenever I’m paying with anything of a £20/€20 or over, I always make a point of saying, “I only have a twenty (or fifty, or whatever), sorry I don’t have it nearer.”

One thing we noticed this year was the distinct lack of receipts, in previous years they have been issued with strict instructions to keep them as the tax police May visit. Would like to think any overcharge was down to an honest mistake, but then again didn’t really check

I have to say we’ve seen nothing of the sort. Mind you, our bills are always small - our most expensive meal so far has been 40 Euros, so quite frankly we don’t care if we’ve been short changed. We only look at the bottom for the total, although I often look at the contents simply as an exercise in Greek language. The hand written bill at Ligaries was a REAL challenge, but I sussed it eventually!
Of course, we’ve never had a bill from Nikos - has anybody? Personally I’m convinced he’s a mathematical numpty, but I don’t care!
