Two people in our regular social group on Skiathos didn't follow through with their day 2 tests (both would be tested via work or NHS shortly after returning home anyway) and neither of them have been chased up about it. I'd just sort out LFT's if it's that close to announcement time. The freebie one on the port might not still be available by then though.

We'll have to wait and see, I suppose.
It might be that they don't require a pre-return test; we won't know until it's announced, which at the moment just looks like being 'sometime before 1st October'.

I get the distinct impression that the testing over here is a box-ticking exercise and that no-ones even checking the uk 2-day ones. It’s obviously protection enough just to buy an overpriced pcr prior to travel! 😜

We’re visiting our son and family in Seville on the 8th Oct, hope the decision is made before then , let’s hope they scrap the day2 test also

An announcement coming today from Shapps. It’s all over the papers like a peeing puppy.
PCRs within 48 hours of return to be replaced with lateral flow tests, and possibly the 48 hours pre-return test scrapped altogether.
We’ll know soon enough.

So, the pre-return test is to be scrapped on 1st October, while we’re out there, which is great.
But the swap from PCR to lateral flow for your test after returning home isn’t happening until ‘later in October’.
Why? Is there something happening with people catching Covid abroad that’s due to change in that time?

To my knowledge neither of the two that I know that skipped the day 2 test have been chased up about it. I knew it wouldn't be policed. By October they certainly won't be bothering unless there's some massive worldwide spike.

I'm going to take the advantage of not having to do a pre-return test.
It's free at the port, but someone has suggested they're stopping these from 1st October.
Frankly, if you're only going for 7 days, any detour is a pain, so I'm happy to save on the hassle, even if we don't save money (which it looks like we will).
We're leaving it as late as possible to book the 48 hour tests, but I'm not expecting these to be sorted until later in the month.

What I’d heard was that the free tests you can get at the port are finishing at the end of this month.
