Just returned after 10 days in Troulos and just want to warn tourists about 2 dogs chained up for most of the time we were there. They were on a load of random waste land and one of the dogs had a damaged leg and both went days without water. I found out who owned the land but I don't think I can say on here who owns it but I think a lot of returning tourists would be surprised who was keeping these dogs in this way. I don't know on how you stand on naming people on here but if any Mod wants to give me the OK I will name the person / establishment as the police got involved but if anyone wants to PM me I'm more than happy to name the person and their establishment and more of a surprising back story to this. I did report it to the Police but its a pity it took 2 reports and with them trying to feed me false information about laws...etc and about 5 days before they actually did something about it. Please if you see anything like this don't be frightened go to the Police and be persistent it is unlawful greekreporter.com/2021/09/16/greece-new-pet-law/

Hi vwt2gel ~ my friends were staying at Mythos and also reported these dogs to the police. Were you the kind folk who climbed over the fence last week and gave the dogs some water? If so, I was in the car that stopped to speak to you. My friend later told me that the small dog had escaped and run away and was now at the dog shelter but that the owner had removed the larger one. We were told, by the owner of Mythos, that his attempts to speak with the dogs' owner had been very badly received and he was encouraging people to report this to the police.
It's not the image of Skiathos that the Mayor and council are wanting to promote, so perhaps we should also involve them?

This is heartbreaking to read. I am really glad to hear that the smaller dog is now at the Shelter but worry for the larger dog who is likely to be now kept in similar conditions of cruelty. Thanks to anyone who tried to help them.

Hi Katet Yes it was me Yes the big dog disappeared so god only knows what happened to him but the little dog with the bad leg is up in the shelter safe & sound we did go up to walk some dogs and seen him up there he is a lovely happy little dog and the shelter said his bad leg is either something he was born with or a very old injury they are not sure but it looks like it will have to come off. After speaking to the Stavros owner of the sunrise taverna at the end of the lane he said the man that owns this land has apartments not a million miles away from there and is a nuisance to the whole village and doesn't like tourists and does random things like this but he's happy for tourists to spend money at his apartments.!! Earlier on in the year his 2 bulls "escaped" and caused havoc and managed to get into Stavros' sister supermarket next to Christakos sports bar. Found Mythos not very bothered and just said the right the things he thought we wanted to hear so wouldn't stay there again, when we went to the Police they were at first very disinterested and tried to make out it is ok to keep dogs this way in Greece but we went back and were persistent, I have contact the mayor Thodoris Tzoumas and asked him for his view on the treatment of these dogs and the Police response. If you and your friends could also contact the mayor below that would be brilliant www.dhmoi.gr/en/municipalities/skiathos/

So to cut a very very very very long story short the dog that had the damaged leg is now sitting next to me on my sofa in the UK sharing a post Christmas turkey sandwich !! Don't want to say a lot about how he got here, when he got here...etc but we decided not to be NIMBY's and done something about and here he is, he had to have his leg amputated but he is very healthy, very happy and an absolute darling and we love him. Still waiting for replies to my several emails & messages to the mayor and his council....but not going to hold my breathe Happy New Year to you all

Oh wow - that’s such a very happy ending for him, and so good to hear! Well done you two for actually doing something about a sad situation - my friends who stayed at Mythos will be very relieved.
I’m the ‘granny’ of a Skiathos rescue and know just how rewarding these dogs are … congratulations 😍
