We often get 300 patients a day through a&e in winter that’s beside the ones with minor injuries that go to walk in centres. Also have a huge gpau dept patient s sent by gps who think require further treatment. I am lucky have excellent gp plenty appointments but we get many patients ringing saying their gp still not doing face to face or even answering phone. Too many patients not enough capacity new hospitals cannot spring up overnight. Need gps to up their game Trust me, GPs are flat out.

Interestingly, Greece appears to be not doing too badly. New case numbers have levelled off. I’ve included U.K., Germany and Greece. Whilst all have very similarly levels, the U.K. have bumped along around the same area for quite a while, Greece appears to have levelled off around three weeks ago, but Germany is just going up, and rapidly: ig.ft.com/coronavirus-chartMy understanding is that Greece are operating a sort of ‘lockdown of the unvaccinated. Because of this, uptake of first doses has started to take off again, and case numbers have levelled off. ig.ft.com/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker/In general, that’s good news for us all for next year. I think it’s also a pretty good signal as to how to deal the problem of unvaccinated people.

Sorry those links don’t take you to my filters.
I’ll post more on how to do that later.

For the first link, enter U.K., Germany and Greece, then cases.
In options click on news, per 100k and linear.
Start date 15/10/21.
For the second link enter U.K. and Greece, then click per 100. In options click cumulative and first dose.

So, speak this very quietly. But this new variant might not be a bad thing.
All viruses mutate, and usually they get more transmissible but less dangerous.
At the moment the early indications from South Africa are that this indeed more transmissible, but doctors are only seeing mild symptoms.
It’s very early days, but if that turns out to be the case, that’ll be good news.
Here’s hoping.

I really hope this is what will happen! And it appears to have done so! In other (great) news, Greece has now dropped the requirement to test before arrival, as long as you've had 2 jabs. So now you don't have to test before leaving the UK, or on arrival in Greece, or before returning to the UK, or after you've returned to the UK, as long as you've had 2 jabs. The exception is if your 2nd jab was over 270 days ago, in which case they require a booster. There's no current requirement for a 4th, no matter how long ago you had the booster (though watch this space). The only hangover red tape from Covid are the PLFs, which are quite a pain, though I understand the U.K. are trying to streamline those and give you an extra day to complete them, to be put in place by the end of the month.

We're sweating a bit at the moment.
The kids (aged 12 & 14) have both had jab 1, but not their second, due to contracting Covid; kids have to wait 12 weeks between infection and getting a jab.
Now we fly on 25/05, and you have to have had your second at least 2 weeks before flying, which is 11/05.
And if you take 12 weeks from that, they won't be able to have their second by 11/05 if they test positive any time before 11/05 or after 16/02, which is...erm...today.
In other words, if either test positive after today, they can't have their 2nd in time to have had it 2 weeks before the start of the holiday.
Not the end of the world, as a positive test on the app is just as good. But we wouldn't be able to just do a lateral flow at home. If that's positive, we'll need to take them for a PCR test to have that result put on the app.
BOTHER!
So we're sweating from now until mid-March for the 12-year old and mid-April for the 14 year-old, hoping they don't test positive before then.

I was considering forcing them to wear full NBC suits, but the school insists it doesn’t fit in with their uniform policy. Frankly, they’re just being awkward.

Schools have always been funny about uniforms - I remember my grammar school was paranoid about caps and ties. Probably even worse than Wakefield.

i now have this vision of Dennis in short trousers, long grey socks and nobbley knees. we used to have to kneel at school if your skirt didnt touch the ground it was deemed too short , this in the age of the mini skirt, when i see girls going to school now their backsides barely covered. we used to roll the waistbands over at break and lunchtimes to shorten them. Happy times. My son who was living here temporiarly tested positive tuesday, his girlfriend the day before, he said he has never felt so ill the first day, he decamped to girlfriend to isolate with her and protect me. But if i havent caught it at work at the hospital i'm hoping i'm safe. I think we will all be on edge until we get to skiathos

Having originally planned to go elsewhere this year my change in circumstances has made another trip back to Skiathos more attractive, though will probably go elsewhere next year. Given the current situation with Russia I've made a reservation using booking.com which can be cancelled without penalty up to the end of July. I've not booked any flights yet. Once the ongoing conflict becomes clearer I will firm up bookings if summer hols look like they will happen and put it on the usual list but I'm not tempting fate entering details yet.

Having seen how things are going I've now taken the plunge and booked flights. We have taken little self catering rooms down toward Alkyon / tennis club end of town : www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g775993-d15324184-Reviews-Asimina_s_House-Skiathos_Town_Skiathos_Sporades.htmlNot stayed in them before so somewhere new to appraise. I spend so little time in the actual accommodation when I'm on holiday that I'll put up with almost anywhere that's clean and I can get a decent night's sleep (Pure club will probably have shut down for the season by time we arrive). I've posted on the 'when are you staying' thread so gone public as it were. Looks like we will overlap with Katet again but only very slightly.
