That’s all very well, but do they do Baileys?

Do you have the same the second time the trolley comes around? I used to start with two, but I learned my lesson the one time the trolley didn’t come round again, so I now order them all on the first delivery. We flew first time (Skiathos) from Bristol last September, different aircraft and they didn’t do Baileys!!! On the feedback email I complained about it strongly and I’m on the lookout for a communication I can put it into for this year’s trips - perhaps I’ll try their app🤡. In September I ordered instead two cans of Brewdog (I think) which were not even slightly chilled. Six Baileys never affect me, but those two cans of warm yuk made me quite tipsy!

Oh fiddlesticks! I’ve just struggled with their app, which isn’t easy by phone. To do ANYTHING at all they need the booking reference - takes a time finding it from April 2019. Then after struggling to not book an excursion or upgrade seats, the Contact Us thing is merely a phone number with office hours. How can I possibly plead my case over the phone? They’ll say we’ll look into it and once we put the phone down forget it.

Done Skiathos both ways, sometimes done a package and sometimes it has fitted in better with my schedule to book separately, eg when I did the Athens-Skyros-Alonissos-Skopelos-Skiathos venture in 2019. Pros and cons both ways (freedom of choice v being ATOL protected etc). For myself as a solo traveller it had always worked out cheaper to do a package even with a 'room underoccupancy' surcharge thrown in. However, like YM has said there are some good deals via Airbnb and I'm tentatively looking into that for a possible holiday this year as a small group but need to sort out the logistics (people travelling from different UK airports etc). I've also used Booking.com in the past a lot and have never had any issues there. I booked the Morfo in town via Booking.com as it never seemed to come up on usual package sites apart from LoveHolidays. Having been fairly confident I wouldn't be back in Skiathos again this year it is now looking like a distinct possibility. Watch this space :-)

I've also done it both ways, but seem to always spend a lot more when booking independently - probably as I keep picking expensive places to stay! I booked The Water last year directly with the hotel, also the Meltemi and Panorama the year before. At the Panorama you always get the better rooms if you book direct with them. When I stayed at the Bourtzi last September I booked it via Booking.com and all was completely fine. I've used Jet2 for flights since 2020 and prefer them to TUI's, although they have the rubbish later time slot for the return trip. In May, I'm going with TUI - a package which should have happened in May '20 and has kept being carried forwards. There should be 13 of us on the trip, but my friend's serious illness may deplete the numbers considerably ... it may just be me . If that's the case I'll move my accommodation to town from Koukounaries as I want to be in the thick of it if solo. For many years we did packages - with Excel, Monarch, Thomson, Thomas Cook, Love Holidays and then TUI - usually whichever company had the Panorama or Myrtia as Paul was a Yorkshireman of habit! I eventually persuaded him to try town and we stayed at the Atlas and Meltemi, booked independently, and he loved the change ... and the convenience. One year, we negotiated a great nightly rate of 30 euros with the owners of a little bungalow behind the Myrtia. It was very basic - but had everything we needed and they were lovely people. We didn't go back as the track was too difficult for Paul to do as his illness progressed, so we had to hire a car (which obviously pushed the overall price of the holiday up again). In summary - done both and will again. Am going to look at September as a package later and see if there's anywhere I want to stay in town still available - otherwise it will be DIY again

A quick update on my May holiday, YM ... not sure if you're also flying from Manchester with TUI or not on 25th, but I've had the email to say the outward journey now leaves in the afternoon instead of 8am, so it's a late arrival. Am not very happy!

Am not very happy! We have had our jet2 flight from Manchester pushed back by an hour or so, whilst it’s not going to spoil our holiday it’s annoying. Now we have to alter transport to the airport and lounge booking. Not a huge inconvenience but annoying non the less. our return flight also altered so the same scenario on the return journey.

Am not very happy! SWMBO booked this one, so I've asked her to check. Like Dave, we're with Jet2. RATHER WORRYINGLY... If you go to either Jet2 holidays, or Jet2 flights pages, there are now no flights available on Wednesdays in May, including 25th. This doesn't just like they're full, as ALL May's Wednesday flight slots are empty, whilst ALL Monday & Friday flights in May are available, as are ALL Monday, Wednesday and Friday flights in June. Bizarre!

Have you forgotten about Wednesday half day closing? My barber actually closes all day Wednesday, which just happens to be the only day I remember I want a haircut.

Well, that's me being stupid, we're flying from Leeds-Bradford in May. SWMBO says she had an email a while ago, saying our flight was delayed by an hour or so. Annoying, but not a big jump like Kate's.

One thing that might be more significant this year with package v DIY is the fact that with most packages you pay for air con as an extra. With the price of energy soaring this might be quite a bit of an add-on if the accommodation owners have to pass on their increased electricity bills to the guests.

With the price of energy soaring this might be quite a bit of an add-on if the accommodation owners have to pass on their increased electricity bills to the guests. We have had to pay supplement for aircon in diy accommodation as well as package, I think the biggest problem those who have yet to book will be the inevitable increase in flight costs due to fuel prices, all caused by the senseless and unforgivable invasion of the Ukraine. the whole world economy will suffer, but this is insignificant in comparison to the suffering in Ukraine.
