Ive had mine years and never used it, as soon as i bought it everywhere we went had showers fixed to the wall. Beach towels, avon dry oil spray, mozzy spray and a very old packet malaria tablets lurking at the back. oh and an insulated bottle bag to take ice cold water to the beach. i pod and small speaker. left over euros in small change. Similar but different.
In one of our suitcases (kept in the loft) I keep all the electric stuff like European plug adaptors, as well as the kids' snorkelling masks and stuff like that.
Meanwhile we have a drawer where we keep our 'spare' toiletries (like if we've bought some shampoo on a 2-for-1 offer, we put 1 in the shower, 1 in this drawer). Anyway, I keep a bag in there with the 'holiday toiletries'. See the 'mosquitos' thread.

Cariad, I have to ask , how big is your suitcase and how many people does it take to carry it ?

Enormous and it only takes Cariad to carry it - she also carries another for somebody else and both their cabin baggage things. Remember, this is a person who will shoot your eyes out at sixty paces blindfolded.

would you believe i never take cabin bags just small bag with kindle, i pod, i pad mini, two suitcases (4 wheel drive ) if go for week only have 15 kg book 20 kg for 14 days going out always well under, to allow for buying goodies and cigarettes etc. i have very lightweight tripp suitcases you case push along with a little finger. ive got packing down to fine art, and an eagle eyed husband, whose favourite comment is you dont need that! i used to take umpteen pairs shoes, changes of jewellery and bring half my clothes back unworn. no more, any toiletries suncream left over at the end i throw away. i never wheel suitcases, i plan, research, book holidays etc buy all neccessary bits and pieces thats me done. once weve handed suitcases in we are not hampered by cabin suitcases etc can just relax. i can never figure out how my dad managed suitcases before wheeled cases, my mum insisted on 14 of everything 14 shirts for dad for evening 14dresses nothing worn twice, 14 sets underwear un believable.no wonder his heart packed up.

When we go on a shorter break, SWMBO insists we only need one suitcase between us. I end up carrying it, of course.
Over the last few years we’ve steadily invested in wheeled suitcases AND hand luggage with wheels and retractable/telescopic handles. It makes it far easier.
The best bit is the hand luggage. It’s now like a mini suitcase, with a solid structure, and easily accessible zip-up ‘pockets’. It just makes it so much easier to get your tablet out, or swap your headphones, or find the boiled sweets for your ears, or whatever. Certainly compared to a soft, floppy bag with one biz zip on the top, and having to rummage around.

I have to own up, a couple of years ago I succumbed and invested in a man bag, one of my better purchases, several pockets for kindle, iPad, glasses and more importantly travel documents and passports, this stops my wife having to delve into her handbag at checkin etc. As a man I’m amazed at the amount of ‘stuff’ ladies carry, handbags are like a tardis.

We had two enormous suitcases and two cabin cases. After Vera’s accident, coming home was a nightmare(but fortunately at Bristol an employee got us from the plane onto the car park coach).
So we bought two four wheel drive suitcases and smaller matching cabin cases, hoping things will be easier this June.
But I recall the days when I was post separation and pre Vera, I went to Samos a couple of times as a singleton. I took a small backpack, cabin size, with 13 pairs of socks, 13 underpants, 3 shorts, 3 T-shirts and a budgie smuggler cozzie. I was a proper Intrepid.

13 pairs socks!!!! You wear socks on holiday? I only pack about 3 pairs for husband and they don’t often get worn . My husband moans about tarsus handbag but more than happy to cram specs ,tablet lighter etc in there. I think all men should have manbag to stop pestering us I persuaded husband to get one , being not used to having one soon lost it leaving it on a chair. Sometimes I don’t take bag out just phone and purse in pocket. Especially in dodgey areas like Naples, the road from station down to Herculaneum is muggers paradise. A friend warned me no bag and turn your diamond ring round to inside your hand and tell husband not to wear his Rolex. A shoulder handbag in a lot of places shouts come and get me. I’m trying not to thing of those budgie smugglers Dennis.

13 pairs of socks was one on and 13 for the rest of the two weeks, same with underpants. That was when I was an idiot. Vera eventually got rid of the budgie smuggler cozzie - it was sort of blue and stretchy, with a kind of Pepsi logo at one side. Like I say, I was an idiot at the time. Actually I’m still an idiot but Vera has concealed it from public view for more than 25 years now. 😀

PS, I only take one pair of socks now - needed for when we hire a jeep, I can’t drive in shoes without socks. Wash and dry overnight.

Bit like YM, the stuff that I only ever use on holiday tends to stay in the suitcase. No point it taking up space elsewhere and leaving a big empty container lying around. Have to admit most of my holiday shirts tend to migrate to one end of the rail.
