I apologise in advance for any spelling, punctuation or other errors, i by no means wax lyrical but will try and post my honest view and any what I deem to be useful titbits of information.
after a great weekend in North Yorkshire we headed to the airport in Manchester, we gauged our travel time on our drive up to Yorkshire, however totally forgot it was a bank holiday, no rush hour traffic plus the roadworks seemed to have ceased for the day, hence we arrived at the airport 45; minutes early. Baggage drop with jet2 a simple process, however the security queue was already snaking its way as far as the check in hall, thank goodness we had been savvy enough to book fast track, through in 10 minutes, some folk took over an hour to go through the system, again I must highlight the fact, some folk are totally unaware , or choose to ignore the rules re hand luggage, the number of rejected bags having to be rechecked was unbelievable, this is a major contributor to the delay.
a pleasant couple of hours in the lounge then took off 10 minutes or so late, excellent flight with jet2, no problem whatsoever, landed in Skiathos 10 minutes behind schedule.
Through passport control speedily, some baggage already on the conveyor belt, I must now warn you all, another result of the brexit debacle is you are now limited to the amount of duty free you can take into Skiathos, those stocking up uk side for party central on their balconies be aware, scanning in place at the baggage hall randomly checking for excess duty free, a charge I believe to be 15€ per bottle over 1 litre allowance is charged.
I digress, we have never waited so long in 20+ years to collect our bags in Skiathos, after the initial delivery of cases there was a 15+ minute delay before the rest of the luggage was available, I can only guess that this was in order to assist staff checking for contraband/excess alcohol etc.
Once through we spoke to the jet2 rep advising her we would not be using coach transfers, and jumped a taxi. Arrived at the Alkyon which looks splendid after a substantial upgrade, literally checked in dumped our luggage and headed across the road to the fresh bar, this has been our venue for our first drink on arrival for over 20 years, for those who haven’t tried it, a family run taverna serving excellent basic food, we ate chicken souvlakia each , 2x half litre of wine, plus free half litre and desert, all for the princely sum of 35€ .
back to the hotel to unpack and write my initial dose of drivel, weather evidently not been great today but due to pick up tomorrow PM.
unsure what tomorrow will bring, our plan is to have no plans
