Well spotted YM, a school boy error on my part, quite happy for admin to relocate thread to correct thread. Today started out overcast so we decided to have a stroll around town, basically we wanted to check what was open, for this time of year more than expected have opened their doors for trade, and there is plenty of activity with regards to painting and stocking of shelves in other businesses. As there are numerous shops open my good lady wife tried her hardest to individually save the Greek economy. It was however nice to witness the shear joy on some shopkeepers faces to not only having survived the pandemic but to be trading for hopefully a full season. After the rigorous shopping regime, myself on sentry duty outside many establishments, a coffee was in order. Monkey has always been a favourite of ours in town, still trading but evidently the building owners did not renew the lease and have now opened up themselves under the trading name of ‘the lab’, still very good coffee, but the premises a bit clinical and not the same laid back vibe. By this time it was beer o’clock so headed to Mythos in the old port for a drink, they sell the Skiathos beer ‘Repi’ which I enjoy so a must visit, not that you would notice but evidently it is now under new ownership, a pleasant hour or so spent in conversation with 2 couples, one couples 18th visit the others 1st, it always amazes and pleases me equally how the type of people who tend to visit Skiathos are of a similar mindset, if only we could be as social and accommodating back home. Early afternoon the clouds started to disperse and the sun broke through, its amazing how this changes the whole ambiance of the place, whilst sunny I have to say in over 20 years visiting I’ve never known it this in May, 16\18:degrees, hopefully the forecast says warmer from tomorrow. Tonight we ate in Baskilos , excellent food and service, we both ate off the specials board, sea bass for herself and pork loin in a peanut and mustard sauce with celeriac mash for me, along with water, half carafe of wine and complimentary desert just over 50€! From here we ventured to Main Street bar, this was closed during the day, when we enquired why we got told the who island is having staffing issues which is why some establishment are not yet open. All,in all an excellent relaxing first full day

Woke this morning to rain, although not heavy it looked like it had been raining for some time due to puddles. We had friends due to arrive on the midday flight from Newcastle so spent the morning in the hotel, the Alkyon has its core area renovated to a very high standard, lots of comfortable seating areas , inside and pool bar. We lounged around for an hour or so reading and generally passing time, we tracked our friends flight on flight tracker, and surprisingly they arrived 25 minutes ahead of schedule. The arriving party had decided to walk from the airport to town, we arranged to meet with them in the Liminaki draft bar, although we have previously eaten in the restaurant we had never spent time in the bar, I have to say it was a pleasant surprise, a nice area with a good range of beverages well priced, our friends joined us approx half an hour after landing. I must explain we met this couple several years ago in Skiathos and have become firm friends ever since, we visit each other’s homes back in the uk and share a love of Skiathos. Our lady friends father was also in the party. We spent a pleasant hour or so catching up and arranged to meet mid afternoon in Mythos bar . By the time we met the weather had improved, sun was out and temperatures in the 20s , This time of year is a great time to visit, each day the island is getting busier, but still peaceful, the smell of paint and the noise of building works is prevalent. More places opening each day. Strangely apart from the large tour boat posiden there are non of the smaller tour craft moored in the harbour, today we noticed a couple of the boat taxis moving across the bay, hopefully they will start operating soon. We met with our friends for pre dinner drinks at Main Street bar, we hoped to dine at Polycratis at the top of papadiamanti but it’s not yet open, however it looks like some major building work is being undertaken not only to the restaurant but also the surrounding area. We eventually, after much debate, decided to eat at ‘Garden Secreto’ (secret garden), our meal of bread and accompanying dips, 5 main courses, a decent bottle of wine, complimentary shots and deserts came to 85€, quality food at an excellent price. The others were tired after an early start so we ventured to Phedrocks for a final drink before retiring, pleased to see Pheds busy due to the football being shown, a nice start to the season for him. The forecast tomorrow looks a lot better so we hope to at last be able to visit a beach, unsure which one at the moment. Another enjoyable day

Another fantastic update. This is really whetting my appetite.
EDIT: Just looked at the webcam, all appears bright and calm.
Just looked at the forecast. A pleasant 17°C all day, <5% chance of rain, no cloud, wind averaging around 5mph, gusts below 10.
Heavenly.

Why would you call fellow tourists " muppets " The situation regarding passport validity is confusing to say the least . As a " non muppet " yourself , could you please detail the correct and precise requirements , and I mean DETAIL for those who are uncertain . It could save someone's holiday . However, most who been visiting for 5 years or more , will have noticed that which is obvious , ie , ...... Phedrocks is just off Papadiamantis Street . Now, who is a muppet

To my delight we awoke this morning to bright sunshine, a beach day ahead. After breakfast we headed to the old port with the intention of catching a boat taxi, unfortunately non are yet running, we decided it would be town beach ( megali ammos) but first a coffee in Sea U. Ambled up through town heading for the beach, it looks like Cafe del mar and the Twilight taverna are both nearly ready to open for the season. Headed to Thessaloniki taverna to use their sunbeds, the cost of 2 beds and a brolly has unsurprisingly risen from 8 to 10 euro, still excellent value in comparison with some other countries. A lazy few hours on the beach , the weather beautiful, hitting mid 20s, comfortable without the sweating malarkey.
We headed back via Plakes, and as usual got completely lost, a wonderful experience, you have to admire the folk who live in this area , I think they must be part mountain goat, some seriously steep inclines.
Back to town and a quick drink in fresh bar , arranged to meet our friends in gin fish for pre dinner drinks at 6:30 so hastily changed and headed out, called in Richie pourverie on the way to book a front line table for Saturday night. After a cocktail ( not really my thing) we headed to eat, no particular destination in mind but ended up in To paluki ? , it was there opening night and we apparently their first customers of the season, wife and myself opted for lamb kleftico, others, chicken souvlakia, pork in blue cheese sauce and vegetarian mousaka, accompanied by a litre of both red and white wine, the food and service both excellent. When we asked for the bill not only did we receive a complimentary desert of orange cake each, but also an additional litre of both red and white wine, suffice to say we headed home after the meal. Tomorrow we have booked a wine tasting session at the vineyard, if able I shall report back tomorrow evening 🤪 All in all another great day

Thanks Dave another interesting post. Yes Alekos I would be happy to clarify passport situation for you. Even though it’s been discussed ad nauseam on this forum trip advisor, travel programme s and lots newspaper articles. Your passport is valid ten years from date of issue, not the expiry date . If you renewed it early and lots do, the expiry could well be more than 10 years from date of issue, Also there has to be at least 3 months before the actual expiry left on the passport when you travel. As for phaedrocks No I’ve not noticed it , on many visits, like I am not aware of every single bar name and taverna location either. You obviously notice bars or spend more time in them than me. No doubt you would like to reply with another abusive post

I hesitate to respond as that will only perpetuate the matter. But I see a difference between “abusing” anonymous groups - “tourists” and abusing a fellow forum member. I repeat, this is not Facebook and this feature is heading that way, which I regret without taking sides.
