Agreed about the heat. Unseasonably warm. No complaints.

loving reading you and kate, just been on east midland airport site as you put me in holiday mode. Ive booked fast track through security only £5 as there are 5 flights without 30 minutes at the time we go so that will be alot of people going through. Then booked escape lounge so we can get a seat in departures £46-93 for two with discount code. I think £23 each will pay for itself as free food and drink a couple of drinks each and a meal in the bar would be more than £23, especially as weve been told there will be no food on flight. I now feel halfway there. ps put another photo on but still sideways

As it's mum's 80th birthday this year I'm also considering booking the escape lounge at EMA for a treat for her. Flight is at 2:05pm so we will arrive about right for early lunch/late brunch and I've never used it in all the years of flying from EMA.

As expected, great reports from Kate so far. Not sure how much I will be reporting this year but will try my best.

Tip for kev, if you want to book escaoe lounge go into ema site register, just e mail create password. tick box send me offers at end of registrations. look at escpe lounges log out. within a day you will get e mail giving you 15% off. As you say flight at 2pm free lunch and drinks guaranteed seats you would pay more in the overpriced bars there for a couple of drinks and snack. just found code Lounge-Offer-EMA

Sorry it’s taken a few days to post. The Wi-Fi is awful here, so I’ve been making notes and waited for a good signal (and a spare half hour) to put this up.
Saturday morning - the two older children wanted to go paragliding, so we tried Megali Ammos beach first but decided it wasn’t as suitable for the little ones and ended up at Koukounaries. We all had a lovely day on the beach again, with three children and three adults going up in those hang-gliding contraptions. Even little Freddie (7) went and said it was the best day of his life!
On Saturday evening it was football - a tense play off to decide if one of the local Stoke teams would go up into the Championship next season. They won, so all was good. The younger ones went early on to Christakis sports bar and we joined them for a pre-dinner drink before heading off to Jasteri for dinner (just us four with no parental duties).
Jasteri didn’t disappoint, a warm welcome and lovely food. I had chicken fillet with cream sauce and we had rosé to drink - 20€ a head (we can’t usually manage starters too!). Back at Myrtia, there was more football on, so I had a nightcap there and then retired for the night.
Sunday - a beautiful day on Vromolimnos. Lunch in Porto Paradiso was the most enormous and delicious salad. Tried my sea shoes out and they were great … walked over the pebbles with ease. Sea shoes are a bit of a revelation - I’ve no idea why I’ve never thought of them before!
Sunday evening - a lift into town and then I met up with other friends for a meze evening. Unfortunately, there was a short but heavy rain storm so we abandoned plans to go to Ty Kymata on Club Strip and went to O Batis instead. We had a lovely meal and much chatting and then at about half eleven I took a taxi back to Myrtia- 22€, expensive for one person but worth it for the opportunity to get to spend a evening with some lovely people. One thing about the taxis though, there seems to be frequent queues in the evenings as the last bus from town is currently 10pm. A friend is staying above the new port and she’s noticed that the queues are often really long.
Monday - a very special day with sailing and a 40th birthday! We sailed on Aeolus and her sister yacht to Skopelos with 17 of us, including swimming, a long lunch in a taverna in a small village on Skopelos, more swimming and sunbathing. We were all pretty tired, so had an early-ish dinner at AlaMar. I had sea bass on beetroot purée which was very tasty. With wine, our bill came to 20€ each, which was very good.
After the meal, we were all pretty tired so didn’t go to the bar. I had a nightcap on the balcony and then slept like a log.

Sounds wonderful I’d love a day out on sail the day again. And may do paragliding again on megali Amos we loved it even though we hate heights!

Tempted to go paragliding again, think it's 41 years since I last did it ! It was a pretty new thing back in 1981. All the gear looked ex military and you had to land it yourself back on the beach. They got a bit stroppy with those that ditched in the sea as it took ages to dry it out again and time is money with those things.

OMG I'm enjoying this. I was about to regale you with the statement that I did paragliding some 60 years ago, but if Kev says it was new in 1981, my memory must be fooling me. If it was Cyprus, it was 60 years ago, if it was Corfu it would be somewhat later. But it was definitely when I had hair and teeth and we took off from the beach, me with a parachute thing hanging from my back, with the speedboat suddenly whizzing out to sea and I definitely did not do the You've been Framed drag across the beach into the shallows - was long enough with a head wind on the beach and fast enough out to sea that I never got my feet wet. Landing was the clever trick of the boat running alongside the beach and I had to steer the thingy to get myself onto the sand. They had explained how to pull on the strings and I got it right - not a lot of people did but I don't recall any hysterics towards those who got it wet. I distinctly remember that my total dread of heights was not a factor, I felt so secure it was a fantastic blast.
And the sail the day thing makes me envious as all get out. Sounds terrific. BUT I can't do it. Our 7am sea swim suits me fine - I can't stand salt or sand in it, so once we're out, it's back to Villa Maria for a lovely hot shower and pristine skin. Back in the days of hair and teeth, I'd have liked nothing better than a sail, catch a tasty fish, cook it on the beach and eat it, then guzzle alcohol and have another swim etc, etc. And I could have walked the plank down and up to the beach from the boat dead easy. Now I doubt I could manage a well secured ladder! You've all got these phobias to come with age, so enjoy these things whilst you can.
